  • In the 18th chapter, the Quran tells us a weird story of a group of men sleeping in a cave for centuries: The Seven Sleepers. The origins and the narrative of this story reveal the ignorance of this religion.

      Book of Genesis is FACT. Please find below scientific/cosmological/archaeological/historical proof & explanation behind the Book of Genesis - These are some of the best videos out there. Kindly share with any other apologists as well.
      The actual scientific explanation for the 7 days of creation is something like this;
      The universe is 7 days old at the point of creation( looking forward) and 13.8 billion years old (looking backwards at the point of creation). This is called space time dilation - the further you get from the point of creation - the older the age of the universe.
      Cross section of the universe is as per NASA WMAP diagram.
      map.gsfc.nasa.gov/media/060915/060915_CMB_Timeline600.jpg
      Gerald Schroeder PhD and Hugh Ross - Phd Astrophysicists have explained this further.
      a)Gerald Schroeder has even given the rough mathematical formula for the age of the universe.
      (and also the each day = x billion years long) (+/- factor of 10 error)

      czcams.com/video/_RuIVCm7pNc/video.html (diff between HughRoss & GeraldS is minimal. The differences - GS used Olam(modern Hebrew) vs yom )
      b) Hugh Ross gives very detailed explanations on the frames of reference
      God is talking from
      i) Gen 1.1 - at the point of creation(1st day/2nd day/3rd day),
      ii) Gen 1.2 from the surface of the earth
      iii) Gen 1.3 - Let there be light - the atmosphere become transparent
      iv) Age of man decreased from 1000 years to 120 years - Hugh Ross explains in his video how the explosion of the supernova about 100k years ago ( monoserotis ??) and that the cosmic radiation from this caused genetic degradation. this is why the age of the patriarchs decreased from 1000 years (adam to noah/shem) to 120ish around abraham. This radiation was x light years away and would have hit earth around the time of noah.

      Noahs Flood proof
      Heres the physical proof of Noahs flood : 12k years ago a meteorite hit the Greenland Hiawatha Glacier and created a crater 30km in diameter.
      czcams.com/video/zfapz2F8Vz0/video.html
      It flooded the Americas to Middle east. It was regional flood & not global flood.
      The sea level rose about a min of 50+ feet and low lying places settlements like sundaland(asia), black sea, Mediterranean basin were swallowed up by the sea. Africa was minimally affected.
      Thats why you find wooly mammoths remains from Americas to Siberia frozen in ice and mud with partially digested food in its stomach. American megafauna was wiped out (camelops, lions, cheetahs)
      Mammoth bones in Mexico - buried under 30feet of mud
      www.geologyin.com/2019/12/over-800-mammoth-bones-discovered-in.html
      Thats why Africa has wider genetic diversity than rest of the world. African genes stretch from Africa to India to Sentinelese ( andaman islands) to Papua new guinea + Australia & Japan(ainu).
      But you dont find indigenous black population in Americas or Europe.
      The Clovis people of the Americas suddenly went extinct.

      Triggers for Noahs flood & 13k years of climate stability
      The detailed science/data that documents the climate change over the last few million years. God truly tweaked the planet to enable us to live here. Tectonics, asteriod impacts etc that made the climate stable for the last 13k years for us to live in. The world we currently live in is a drop of stability in an otherwise highly unstable planet.
      Also, 13k years ago...an asteroid impact at Greenland ( Hiawatha glacier) triggered noahs flood.

      What happened to that heroic, faithful dog, who for over three centuries had kept watch in the front of the cave protecting the pious Muslim sleepers? Did he too get to go to Islamic paradise? Of course the story doesn't bother to say what happened to the animal, although no matter how virtuous he was, he was an "unclean" animal so i doubt he was allowed in! Apparently in Islam, animals have no souls and thus have no afterlife.

      @@leary4 nope. The Christian story about the sleepers is what's called a "hagiography." Why would a story about people who lived 200 years after Jesus and the apostles ever be considered Scripture? That's what's hilarious about the fact that Muhammad appropriated it and made it part of the Koran. Just google "lives of saints" and you'll find thousands of stories like that from Catholic and Orthodox websites. Every day of the calendar is devoted to at least two or three saints each with their own little story.

    • @joshswicegood404
      @joshswicegood404 Před 4 lety +9

      optimus Transformer um no the Bible doesn’t teach reincarnation. Glad you found a website that supports your view and what a lot of false teaching went on the days of Christ and before but it in no way represents scripture. You can disbelieve it mock it or just down right reject it but you can’t make it teach something that isn’t there. Been a Christian for over 20 years and have read through the Bible beginning to end a couple of times. There are many in the Bible that spread lies, doesn’t mean it’s true, false prophets claiming they were from God that were heretics (just like the Catholics of which is in that article and present day) that spread heresy. Again just because you and others like you find some history about the Bible that seemed corrupt or plagiarized doesn’t mean it came from the scripture. There has and always will be false teaching in the church. Some believe Jesus to be gay, that he was just an angel or just a good man, or that he was a lunatic or liar. You have to search it for yourself and stop believing everything you hear on the internet. Last time I checked just because it’s online doesn’t mean it’s true. Because everything you find out there must be true right?

    That the Koran should “adopt” the Christian legend of The Seven Sleepers of Ephesus is very revealing. It suggests that the new religion was trying to establish itself by treating the admired figures of earlier religions as (in effects) Muslims in all but name. STM that is the purpose behind putting a story familiar to Christians into the Koran, in a Muslim guise. The Koran does that a lot: with Alexander the Great, also with Abraham, other Biblical figures, and of course Mary and Jesus.
    Which is very clever - because stories can always count on getting a hearing. Especially if they are about people.
    If the story is part of the eternal Koran of which the Koran on Earth is a copy, the sura must pre-exist the Christian legend of The Seven Sleepers of Ephesus. So if the Muslim story is the true and original one, where did Christians get their version of the story from ? And how did Jews and Zoroastrians come by the stories they told, that are in the eternal Koran that pre-existed the Zoroastrian & Jewish stories ?

      The Jews asking the questions were asking questions whose answer would come from the Old Testament, not from a Christian fairy tale. Rob Christian has a video showing how this was the 2nd of 3 questions for Muhammad to prove that he was a true prophet sent by Yahweh - who would either know the answer to questions from the Jewish scriptures, or would have personal contact with Yahweh by which he could contain the answer.
      It's entirely possible they asked the question in a vague-enough way that would allow a false prophet to find a response from non-biblical sources.
      The correct answer was to identify the answer as being the 3 young men in Daniel 3, where Nebuchandezzar tossed them into the furnace.
      The 3rd of 3 questions was the one which resulted in the Dhul-Quarnain (2 horns) story which claimed the sun set in a pool of muddy water.
      The correct answer would have been from Daniel 8:3 regarding the vision that had a ram with 2 horns, where the answer was given in Daniel 8:20 being the Medes and Persians. It's possible they chose this story because of how the answer to the Daniel 8 vision was given by the angel Gabriel, and here was someone claiming to be a prophet receiving revelations from Gabriel (Jibreel). So they figured that if Muhammad was truly receiving revelations via Gabriel, that he would also know the answer that the true Gabriel also gave in the book of Daniel.

    I'm a Christian, I never heard the story of the 7 sleepers in my whole life. I was raised in a Christian (so called) family that would follow orthodox church, and never - ever heard anything like that. I consider this "story" a fable, because nobody can survive within a cave for more than 5 days, not for 2-3 centuries, it's ridiculous. And to consider that it was used to "approve" the ressurecion of Christ is only a hilarious way to do it. It only shows that people from these days with such limited data base could believe anything a person in power would tell them, not that even now people don't believe them.
    It is a very good work coming from an atheist, and I really appreciate that you do it for the sake of people clouded by the hatred the quran keeps them in. God bless you AP, and your family.

    The mean tropical year has 365.24219 ephemeris days, while the lunar year has only 354.367056 days. A quick calculation shows that 300 solar years yield 109572.657 days corresponding to 309.2 lunar years.

My guess personally is that the story was most probably originally made up and told between christians to lift up their spirits during the persecutions. It was showing them that their struggle was meaningful and that their suffering will be rewarded in the end with the triumph of Christ over the pagans. At least in that sense the story is true.

A few years later, the other friend passes by the graveyard on the way to his wedding. As he is walking past, he sees an open grave which happens to be his friend's grave. Curious, he walks over and sees his friend sitting up. His friend says he has heard about the wedding and wishes to congratulate him on his good fortune. He invites his friend to step down into the grave for a drink. They have three drinks and then the friend says he must go or he will be late. When he finally gets to the town, everything is different. When he tells people who he is, they tell him that he never showed up for the wedding and that that happened 300 years ago.

    Could an Emperor seal a cave with people in it? Well St. Lawrance was put on a large frying pan and roasted alive so in terms of barbaric potential their is not a lot that Rome was not capable of. I really am trying to recall this story and if it is not this one specifically I seem to have a faint recollection of martyrs being sealed in a cave.....it's real faint but yeah there is something similar to it in (my) distant past.

    • @Misierbobo
      @Misierbobo Před 4 lety +1

      You're missing the point. The barbarity and ruthlessness of Roman Emperors is not being put in question here.
      What makes this tale unlikely is that a Roman Emperor would take a personal interest in the lives of 7 Christians nobodies living in the far reaches of the empire.
      In comparison Laurence lived in Rome, was close to the Pope and was evidently part of the higher ups in the Church. This makes it likely that he would have indeed caught the attention of a Roman Emperor.

    • @leary4
      @leary4 Před 4 lety +1

      @@Misierbobo Well lets see, Diocletian who came on the scene about a century later and who also hated Christians with a passion formally instituted a system of 4 functioning demi emperors who administered their regions independent of himself. It was for obvious reasons a bold move which thanks to his character worked during his life and failed immediately after. The point I make is that it's almost immaterial if the Emperor personally ordered the lads being sealed because the provincial governor likely had the authority to do so in his name. On the other hand Rome always distinguished between citizens and non citizens. Paul could not be crucified because he was a citizen and blameless. Were these lads citizens and their only crime was being Christian or not giving some pagan sacrifice it may have required the emperor signing off and it would be easily enough done. They were already imprisoned so all ya gotta do is feed them till word is received on their disposition. It's an interesting story. My recollection of it is so faint. I just don't recall it being a part of the physical resurrection debate. It hits on a very primal fear of being buried alive. (I'm not convinced it was ever that much of a debate. For muslims it's a big thing but for Christians it was just one more growing pang. From Egypt to Rome to Spain the practices of the faith as well as the teachings were awfully consistent)

    I know different version of this legend. It is a version from my country. The men were powerful and immortal warriors of a great king. And they were sleeping in a cave in the mountains above the king's city. They were put to sleep by some magic - I dont remember what exactly. And they will sleep as long as the country is in peace. But once in a while they are waking and asking about time. "Is this the time?" They ask those travelers who can find their cave if they are needed outside again to protect the country. The travelers want to find this cave becouse of the great golden treasure of the king which is guarded by the sleeping warriors there. They can guard it against the bad, greedy people. But if such traveler has a noble purpose or a pure heart then the warriors can let such person have a bit of the golden treasure. Like helping the poor old mother or a sick child or something like that - that gold should not be wasted for a trival or ignoble purposes. If the answer for their ask is no, they go back to sleep. But if the answer is yes, they will wake and help the country against the foreign attackers. Some day the sleeping knights of the Tatra Mountains will be answering the call to help. Thats the story as is told in Poland :)

    Ibn Hisham explains how this story got Muhammad's attention. The Jews of Medina tested his claim of being a prophet by asking him three questions. The first two were esoteric questions without provable answers, probably intended to make sure Muhammad took the questions seriously. The third question was about the Sleepers of Ephasus: were there seven sleepers? Or were there eight? After 15 days, Muhammad provided his answers: there were seven, plus their faithful dog. (This is the equivalent of asking: when Goldilocks ate the soup that was just right, was Baby Bear a boy or a girl? And a self-proclaimed prophet answering, "Baby Bear was a girl but dressed in boys' clothes because she was a tomboy.") The Qur'an tells us how this test worked out for Muhammad: the Jews routinely ridiculed Muhammad for telling children's fables, which apparently was what they thought about the story of the seven sleepers. Eventually Muhammad became furious with the Jews pointing out his many errors and laughing at his fables which he presented as prophesy (another one is Abraham destroying the idols and saying the big idol did it); ultimately Muhammad exiled two Jewish clans from Medina and massacred the third, taking the women and children as slaves and sending them to be sold in exchange for weapons and horses to advance his jihad.

    Just like today, back thousands of years ago, people engaged in misinformation campaigns.
    If you were a politician or a military leader, which were pretty much the same thing back then, misinformation was a very good tactic to use to your advantage.
    Either make up a story that sounds like a conspiracy theory, or make several different variants of the story to make it sound more believable. If people hear the different variants, people will believe that there is a kernel of truth to it. Get people to focus on the tidbits. Focus their point of thinking to something irrelevant. Maybe the details weren't true, or exaggerated, but the basic story is all that needs to be believed, truth or not.
    There's different versions of this tactic like mud slinging or just in general promoting stories that makes a person, culture or civilization look bad, unworthy or even dangerous.
    Once the stories are ingrained in the mind of the people, then it's a lot easier to manipulate them to do what a leader wants them to do.
    It works on a small scale with school yard bullies as well😏😉.

    When i first heard of this story, i was in my junior high library thumbing through an unabridged dictionary. I saw the phrase "Seven Sleepers of Ephesus". At that time, while i was basically an agnostic about gods, i actually half-believed that a miracle like this legend might have been possible! I thought there was a lot more magic around "once upon a time", in days of old, than in modern times! Since from early childhood i had suffered from frequent insomnia and thus much trouble getting up in the morning, i envied the "Seven Sleepers" so much because all they had had to do to become heroes or saints (besides courage and faith during their brief persecution by the emperor) was just to sleep for a very long time! That was far easier than the severe ordeals so many other deeply pious persons suffered! What an easy path to "sainthood"! I wondered how did those boys got so lucky? From the sheer strength of their faith? 😇
