- Sometimes, I get so comfortable using terms that seem like common sense but I do realize that there are some things that are regularly said that may not make sense. Figured I'd come up with some of the most common terms and explain them for anyone who may not know what is what. It was SO hard trying to find some words for some letters lol but I hope this helps!

D is for Discretion...Practice at all times
LMBO at "So I don't get fined" Hahaha Love it Soror!
W : is for Work! interest need to know they have to work once they get into the organizations, it's not ALL fun and games! 😊
Thank you for posting these videos on Greek life.
Thank you for viewing!
Hi soror 💗💚 nice job overall with this video. B for business. F can stand for an organization’s founders. I perceive C as standing for a chapter’s charter day and charter members too. L can be for leadership, Lyle, LB (line brother) or LS (line sister). Someone previously commented D for discretion. V for volunteer or vote. S for ship name, scholarship and service. My undergrad chapter would say T for tag. P for projects or probate/presentation. W for work (in your chapter or org). X for the Greek letter Xi Ξ or X (Chi). I had a hard time with X too. Thanks for providing advice and teaching in your videos to new Greek members/interests!
Great video Soror! Sisters/Aunts/Cousins don’t make you Legacy (at least for AKA) has to be mother, grandmother, stepmother, or legal guardian 😊 I’m a 3rd generation legacy and my line name is Pearlfect Pedigree because of it 💗💚 I love this idea with all the terminology!!
Thanks for the info! I’m still learning that process. I found it interesting at my last chapter meeting they said something about a sister doing reverse legacy for her mom & she also said her sister was her legacy. We had food at that meeting tho so I could’ve been trippin cuz I was focused on the food 🤦🏾♀️ your line name is cuteee!!
Phacts
Great information to know. Oh here's some other letters of the alphabet you might mention as well. B: BETA, P: Pledging. Hope this helps you too.keep up the good work.😉👍👌✋
My chapter lines up from tallest to shortest, so the Ace is the tallest member on line.
I too am a Quad soror! Skee Wee! I have been watching your videos since I was an interest as well!
Great info good job 💕💚

#heain'tyourfrat #sheain'tyoursoro.
Good vid tho.
What is the difference between a fav and spec ?
D is for DEFERENCE. 💗💚
Nolye4AKA what does deference mean?
Quad club💗💚 been watching your videos since I was an interest!
Yaaas club! Thanks 💚
Research should include rituals of the an organizations.
Do they teach you the common stroll if you go grad chapter?
Line Line Brother( LB) Line sister (LS)
Gorgeous!!!!
I love you Shea
💚💚
Great video.
Liked this. I knew almost all of these terms but some were new. Boy people really get funny talking about rituals or denouncing. I'm a GDI but I've written papers on BGLOS & then have classmates ask or tell me about what they heard. Most of it is laughable. Going to watch more of your vids.
Do you only call alphas frat or do you call the other 4 frat as well ?
I call alphas “Pham” if anything. I usually just call people by their names lol I don’t do all that.
I’m definitely a “sis/bro” type of person though so it’s either that (if we’re cool) or their name.
If your aunt is in a sorority does that make you a legacy?
This might sound like a stupid question but I’m just looking into sororities and all things Greek. So yeah
No.
Depends on the organization
quad clubbb💕💚💅🏾
You seem to be down to earth and cool,I have heard that AKAS are stuck up and bougie,I actually heard people say they don't like the AKAS and they rather pledge Delta, that can't be true is it?
kevin walker those are stereotypes.
You forgot NUPE. Its all good though. Great video!
I’m trippin trippin 🤦🏾♀️ lol thanks!

@@SheaMiller how are you doing
Is it bad if i ask a member how much it cost to join their chapter? I just wanna make sure my coins are together lol
Keyaira Ester i would say yes lol i've always heard that if you want to join an org you should have at least $1,000 saved
Bay Little i know im hoping to pay no more than $1,500. It ranges from $1,000-3,000 in most cases & to me that’s a big difference.
Yes lol I wouldn’t advise you to do that. But it varies even between chapter lines .. my advisor told us to just have 1500 saved to be safe & was like it could be more or less. I was like bruhhhh lol.
Shea Miller and then for yearly dues how much do those average? I know to attend conferences and stuff like Boule you must be financial for that year. If i join i want to be financial and active so i wanna know what to expect
@@SheaMiller, thanks for publishing a vlog on this subject.
For historical purposes, I want to share that when I pledged AKA Sorority, Inc. (Gamma Zeta chapter New Jersey) in 1967, my line individually (only) had to pay $50.00 each. I don't know how much that would be now given the different rates for money in the 2000s.
Also, for the record, that was a state chapter with only a few undergraduates (If I recall correctly, there were two or three undergraduates- one of whom was a good friend of mine who attended the same small college I did. There were a total of 12 women in that line, all but one if I recall correctly went to colleges/universities in Northern Jersey. We were pledged by the graduate chapter and met two times a week on the weekends for 3 months. I remember our line performing a dance routine in public at a meeting in our state. I also have a vague memory of us performing at a larger function of AKAs in New York City (1967) where there were a number of other lines who definitely out-performed us doing some fast paced synchronized dancing in vertical lines (each group performing separately). If those dancing movements were called "stepping" and if there were movements called "strolling", I wasn't familiar with those terms or with the term "probate" or most of the other terms that you shared in this video.
I remember that my line wore short pink and green dresses that someone sewed for us and I remember equating the dance movements that we did for those shows with the movements that R&B girl groups did. I remember "crossing the burning sands" and receiving my sorority pin and certificate. Although, I've been inactive for a loooong time, I'm still interested in cultural aspects of historically Black Greek letter organizations such as the songs/chants, the stepping and strolling routines, and the vernacular such as what you are documenting in this vlog. Thanks again, Shea.

There are single letter chapters. Also, why would someone who isn't in a Greek letter organization need to know or care about some of this information? Discretion, Discretion, Discretion!
Because a simple google search would produce the same results. Saying that “a” can be for alpha, aka, and active calls for discretion? That’s a reach. How can we expect for someone to do their research but not be willing to tell them anything like basic terms that doesn’t hurt or “give out” any exclusive information for any individual organization? We have bigger things to be concerned with than keeping secret what terms like “financial” means.
@@SheaMiller Any information that you can not Google search is usually taught or learned once in the organization. Why would anyone not in the organization even care otherwise?
Google “Greek terminology” and in this search you will find pages and pages of terminology available where the majority of these terms mentioned came from .. so the terms are able to be found in a google search and were put in a video 😊
These terms are not only used by BGLOs (except for very few, mostly the org names specifically) and again, nothing mentioned in this video is sacred and directed at any one organization. I can understand your concern with discretion but with these specific terms .. I don’t see the need.
Shea Miller well besides the negativity, I’ve been watching your videos for some years now and I appreciate all of the info. Some ppl hate when the information is provided but then you see them dogging or poke fun at them for making those mistakes! Pick a struggle!!! You’d be surprised how many ppl long to be Greek, Sony have Greek around them but didn’t know anything about discretion. I agree the nitty gritty should be saved but she’s really only giving basic info
@@locdnloaded1180 Basic info that can be google searched if thats the case, so whats the point otherwise?
