These La Scala Soviet shows are a source of constant frustration. Presumably, all of them have been video taped, but little has surfaced. Here, we can see Nilsson in her absolute prime and Prevedi who replaced Corelli (who cancelled the tour due to a nervous breakdown).

As stated by a few Italian papers, this was supposed to be the Russian premiere of Turandot. This is incorrect. As a viewer pointed out, "the first-ever production of Turandot in Russia was presented at the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre in 1931. Leo Steinberg conducted, Leonid Baratov was a director.". Wonderful! I saw Birgit Nilsson at La Scala in 1970 - how it lives in the memory! She had such astonishing power.

Bellissimo documento!!!!! È una rarità questa Turandot di Mosca. Della grandiosità della NILSON specie in questo ruolo è assai noto, ma non avevo mai visto un documento con PREVEDI ripreso dal vivo in diretta. Una favolosa interpretazione di entranbi i due protagonisti. Aveva ragione il mio grande concittadino F. LABO' mi diceva " se vuoi ascoltare una bella voce devi sentire PREVEDI. Chapeau.. Grazie A. Thankfully, it erased the recent awful live from the METROPOLITAN Turandot with a mediocrity of singing cast.
Yes , I ve said the same "mediocre" singers , specially the tenor Brian Jagde. In Forza.
I think that all of them except Turandot (Pankratova) did well. Gregorian was Liu and Baek was Calaf on the one I saw. Then again, Turandot's is the part that sounds the worst if not done by a masterful singer whose voice fits the part.

I think both of them act quite convincingly here.
Spectacular performance by Prevedi; it reminds me of Corelli, but is less idiosyncratic. Now curse me, but I prefer Prevedi here.

Most probably. She was Liù in that production.

Нильссон потрясающая певица. Великолепные верха, плотные низы. Хоть и драматическое сопрано но могла и звучать как лирическое сопрано. Великолепное меццо воче. Очень подвижный голос В ее репертуаре есть и 2 партии для драматической колоратуры. Это Донна Анна и Абигаль. Очень тонкая певица великолепно понимающая музыку. Недавно попалась более поздняя видео запись с арией из Макбета. Думаю не хуже чем Каллас. Более ранняя видео запись арии имела не попадание в роль. Там Каллас была лучше. Но недавно попалась другая запись Нильссон фрагмент Макбета с декорациями и с гримом. Там Нильссон не так красиво и более жестко спела. @@XPRT10R It sounds good, though Birgit has said she wanted to use head voice as much as possible. I can't recall her exact reasons why.
@@Bravilor though it sounds like an "unusual amount of chest", as you put it, there's definitely quite a lot of head mixed in there.
