@@midgar9490 I’ll have to disagree. Although the fight between Obi wan and Mual was fantastic to watch, a duel between Anakin and Obi wan has so much emotion and passion behind it. If you ever watched an explanation between the choreography of the duel you would understand it better. There’s love for each other (as in brotherly love) the ultimate betrayal that Obi-Wan and Anakin feel for one another is seen with every strike during their battle. The fight's genius has a lot to do with how the story is told up until Obi-Wan defeats his apprentice. Anakin is a master of the lightsaber Form V. This form is incredibly fast and aggressive and leaves it all on the battlefield. Obi-Wan's style is Form III, which is all about defense and deflection. Both are masters in their craft, setting the stage for their fateful duel. Right off the bat, both characters give it their all in the fight. Anakin continuously puts the pressure on Obi-Wan, keeping him on the defense. This actually works perfectly, as that is where Kenobi feels most at home. Each flurry and strike looked haphazard, but every kill strike Anakin would land on anyone else, Obi-Wan deflected with complete precision. Before Anakin became the Sith Lord that everyone feared and none could never replicate, he was already an incredibly deadly fighter. The main reason that Obi-Wan survived as long as he did was that he knew every finishing strike Anakin would try to land. By continuously matching each other, the fight ended up being a matter of who would get exhausted first. By the end of the battle, it wasn't the high ground that defeated Anakin; it was Obi-Wan's ability to learn from every fight. When Obi-Wan first fought Darth Maul, he was on the lower end of the high ground. In a last-ditch effort to survive, the young Jedi threw himself over the Sith Lord to deliver a killing blow. When the tables were turned between him and Anakin, Kenobi warned him not to try to jump. Anakin's overconfidence would inevitably get the better of him, and Kenobi sliced off his friend's limbs mid-jump, leaving him defeated. Kenobi learned from his past fights, and he used that knowledge in the future.
Dude I love how the fight between Anikin and and Obi Wan on mustafar was so epic but then Vader vs Obi wan in new hope was just two guys like barely tapping each other
Obvious reason is cuz was 1977. But lore wise it's cuz Vader was aware that even at his age Obi Wan was still a dangerous opponent and he wasn't going to make the same mistake he made on Mustafar. So he played things more cautious
I'm reading the revenge of the sith book right now and the description of the fight between obi wan and anakin is right on. It describes almost verbatim anakin relentlessly attacking Obi-Wan whose blocking and parrying like mad. A couple instances in the book that weren't in the movie I think at one point during the duel anakin is holding his lightsaber in his mechanical hand and Obi-Wan uses the force to make the mechanical hand open up wide thus making anakin drop his lightsaber, but Obi-Wan knew it would only work once. Another was they used a blaster from one of the separatist corpses to fire laser bolts at each other and they just kept deflecting the bolts back at one another with their lightsabers until the bolts disappated.
The book was a piece of art in itself. The way it described the the scenes and feelings of every character makes it one of the best books I've ever read.
I was always disappointed by the hyper-spectacle fighting of the prequels. I understand that force precognition is supposed to make fights LOOK choreographed, but it's hard to discern the nuances in fighting styles when every fight is filmed to be as flashy as possible. Obi-wan is supposed to be almost completely defensive and controlled, with perfect timing and a canny eye for attacks of opportunity, and Anakin is supposed to fight like a bully with unrelenting heavy blows and an unstoppable strength in the Force. In the fight between them them that comes off somewhat, with Obi-wan pretty much constantly in retreat mode, and maybe some of the modern media (especially the comics and games) have spoiled me for mid-combat force use, but I really expected Anakin to be using the force to throw him around and throw crap at him constantly, with Obi-wan getting a lucky blow at the end, which would explain Vader's bitterness in the original trilogy. None of this "having the high ground means I win" nonsense.

Pushing aside the somewhat on the nose metaphor about being on the high ground, Obi doesn’t really want to kill Anakin but knows he’s got himself, the defensive master, in a highly defendable position with little room for Anakin to actually advance. So he attempts his final chance to reason with Anakin. However, it’s meant to also show Anakin’s major weakness at this point. His recklessness. He’s so blinded in his hate he can’t see he’s in a bad position and doesn’t take the time to think it throw. Which Obi knew and has exploited in order to defeat Anakin. It’s one of the few things I think is genuinely done well here, it’s a resolution to the combat that goes further than just obi landing a lucky hit in. Anakin is better than Obi, there’s no way he could have one without resorting to more strategic means.
I remember thinking during several parts of that book that "Kenobi has had a...very full day." I also couldn't believe that when he got back to Grievous' ship and sees Grievous' body that his death went from THE Headline to an extremely minor historical footnote in the space of a few hours.
I'd say haydens portion of the choreography was a lot more impressive in the battle on mustafar than McGregors. anakin really didn't get as many battles as obi Wan did, but the one he did get, he really showed just how amazing of a duelist he was. I wish we got to see him duel windu instead of just dismembering windu. it would help show the audience that either Palpatine threw the duel on purpose, or that anakin was simply a better duelist than Palpatine. which wouldn't be a far stretch to say at all. I have no cited sources, but I've read and been told that anakin is basically the best duelist in the galaxy at this point. sidious at some point in his life remarks that vader is a better duelist than him at least. both sidious and anakin are aggressive duelists, but Palpatine is a Jack of all trades, meanwhile anakin is THE master of the era in his preferred lightsaber style. anakin was beaten only because he was blinded by anger and couldn't think his situation out during the highground scene. and obi Wan managed to survive for so long because while anakin was THE master of aggressive dueling, obi Wan was THE master of defensive dueling. and they both were the uncontested best masters of their preferred styles of their Era. it's just a yin and yang moment, an "unstoppable force meets an immovable object" moment. nobody else in the galaxy could've survived that duel with anakin except obi Wan. Yoda can't win a fight of attrition, and there's no such thing as a more tiring fight as fighting anakin on mustafar. and Yoda lacks offensive force abilities like a sith would have. sidious is mainly an aggressive duelist, but sidious would basically just be fighting an even more aggressive duelist who's also better than him at aggressive dueling in general. he'd just be fighting anakin using anakins style, but worse than anakin. there's other forms that are also aggressive but nothing is gonna out-agro anakin at this point. sidious has the offensive force lightning and choking though. and that's where anakin would lose. but a straight duel? anakin wins that easily. Palpatine isn't the absolute master of defending like obi Wan is. and fighting anakin demands nothing less than perfect defense. oh and obi Wan trained anakin himself and fought alongside him in the clone wars for all of anakins young adulthood. so even a perfect defense wouldn't cut it against anakin without knowing his specific dueling so intimately.
Like how Obi Wan has a connection to all of Palpatine's apprentices. His master's killer as well as Satine's, Qui-Gon's former master, and his own apprentice.

It depends on your point of view. Notice how whenever he falls to the ground, he is losing? Then he goes on to do much better? From his point of view, he is raising the ground up to meet him, thus gaining the hogh ground at the cost of being prone. It's a gamble, and one that doesn't always pay off. For instance when Grievous kicks him. But pay close attention to the scene and you will notice that he is actually upside down when his kick fails and Grievous' succeeds. That is why he is able to win the fight immediately after being kicked -down- over a ledge. From his perspective, up had become down and so falling down has actually lowered the ground up to him, leaving Grievous with the high ground, which he lost when upside down Obiwan was propelled up (to him) onto the edge which from our point of view was below him. QED. It depends on your point of view.
Kenobi was known for having a weak force bubble, yea that’s actually a thing force users use to defend against force attacks. That’s why all the sith keep force pushing him

Sith Lords and defensive dueling are his specialty. Using the force and understanding the force are qui-gons. Hence when it came down to a Duel obi Wan retained The high ground
@@ilyte1 I believe age was a considerable factor also. As the duel was long lasting, Maul understood that the more experienced yet older Jedi Master would tire and be a prime target to focus and kill (since Maul himself was in peak physical condition due to his youth and training, and could definitely overpower and outlast him), not to mention how strategically beneficial it would be in demoralizing the Jedi padawan in watching their Master die and having to then fight on their own. Furthermore, Qui-Gon's fighting style form 2 Ataru was weakened when he pushed Maul alone in a close quarters position (Form 2 is more effective with larger environments as it uses agility and acrobatics in it's techniques, meaning greater space accommodates this). With him being separated from Obi-Wan, exhausted from a long duel and his fighting style weakened, he was ripe for the killing as he was also the greater threat at the time yet the weakest he had been throughout the entire fight. It's no surprise he unfortunately fell first for these reasons.

The Trilogy of 1, 2, and 3 are, and I think always will be the best. They were choreographed so well in the battles. There were multiple saber fights in each one. There was just the right amount of intelligent humor. And just the right amount of love, and despair. The old ones were great, just ahead of their time. The new ones are just not the same. They have put in a lot of childish humor, and you can tell SJW’s have really influenced where Star Wars is going. Not that I don’t think Rey is cool, was hoping she was a Kenobi. Come back George Lucas.
The issues with the new movies was that it felt like the actions had little consequences? Like the rise of skywalker they made it feel like the resistance had lost then suddenly had hope then lost it and then won all in the space of like 20 mins. Rey was a little op but wished they didnt have her flip back and forth of "will she turn will she not"

It certainly tracks across their recent Disney+ franchises. Loki, Hawkeye, Strange 2, Kenobi etc. Main character is now an old has-been and is upstaged by a sassy young thing whose only flaw is her tragic backstory.
The reason why Darth Maul lost is because he was not trained in the art of the high ground...Obi Won was the master of this art and knew Maul did not know how to use it...That is why Maul failed...
I know that not everyone will agree with this but I actually like these three movies better than the older ones. They reveal a lot of backstory not just on how anakin skywalker became darth Vader but also what he was like before that
I would say, star star wars is definitely a soo good story. But they don't spend much on thier movies thats why, they ain't as popular as other sci-fi movies.
No shit Sherlock, that’s what the prequels were supposed to do. There’s a number of elements which make them poor films when compared to the originals though. Plot holes, poor writing, over use of cgi etc. They’re still decent films, but don’t hold a candle to the originals. At least they’re watchable though, unlike the sequels.
Obi wan vs Anikan is still the best lightsaber duel in all of Star Wars. There is so much tension and emotion behind it.

Anakin vs obi wan was overall better it had it all but the maul fights had the superior choreography

The book was a piece of art in itself. The way it described the the scenes and feelings of every character makes it one of the best books I've ever read.
I was always disappointed by the hyper-spectacle fighting of the prequels. I understand that force precognition is supposed to make fights LOOK choreographed, but it's hard to discern the nuances in fighting styles when every fight is filmed to be as flashy as possible.
Obi-wan is supposed to be almost completely defensive and controlled, with perfect timing and a canny eye for attacks of opportunity, and Anakin is supposed to fight like a bully with unrelenting heavy blows and an unstoppable strength in the Force. In the fight between them them that comes off somewhat, with Obi-wan pretty much constantly in retreat mode, and maybe some of the modern media (especially the comics and games) have spoiled me for mid-combat force use, but I really expected Anakin to be using the force to throw him around and throw crap at him constantly, with Obi-wan getting a lucky blow at the end, which would explain Vader's bitterness in the original trilogy. None of this "having the high ground means I win" nonsense.
@@Koop784 I agree with most of what you said, except the high ground statement. Pushing aside the somewhat on the nose metaphor about being on the high ground, Obi doesn’t really want to kill Anakin but knows he’s got himself, the defensive master, in a highly defendable position with little room for Anakin to actually advance. So he attempts his final chance to reason with Anakin. However, it’s meant to also show Anakin’s major weakness at this point. His recklessness. He’s so blinded in his hate he can’t see he’s in a bad position and doesn’t take the time to think it throw. Which Obi knew and has exploited in order to defeat Anakin.
It’s one of the few things I think is genuinely done well here, it’s a resolution to the combat that goes further than just obi landing a lucky hit in. Anakin is better than Obi, there’s no way he could have one without resorting to more strategic means.
I remember thinking during several parts of that book that "Kenobi has had a...very full day."
I also couldn't believe that when he got back to Grievous' ship and sees Grievous' body that his death went from THE Headline to an extremely minor historical footnote in the space of a few hours.

anakin really didn't get as many battles as obi Wan did, but the one he did get, he really showed just how amazing of a duelist he was.
I wish we got to see him duel windu instead of just dismembering windu.
it would help show the audience that either Palpatine threw the duel on purpose, or that anakin was simply a better duelist than Palpatine. which wouldn't be a far stretch to say at all.
I have no cited sources, but I've read and been told that anakin is basically the best duelist in the galaxy at this point.

both sidious and anakin are aggressive duelists, but Palpatine is a Jack of all trades, meanwhile anakin is THE master of the era in his preferred lightsaber style.

oh and obi Wan trained anakin himself and fought alongside him in the clone wars for all of anakins young adulthood. so even a perfect defense wouldn't cut it against anakin without knowing his specific dueling so intimately.

What's with obi wan's weird fetish he has whenever he engages in a fight? He always falls to the ground. Is it like a price to pay for having the high ground?
It depends on your point of view. Notice how whenever he falls to the ground, he is losing? Then he goes on to do much better? From his point of view, he is raising the ground up to meet him, thus gaining the hogh ground at the cost of being prone. It's a gamble, and one that doesn't always pay off. For instance when Grievous kicks him. But pay close attention to the scene and you will notice that he is actually upside down when his kick fails and Grievous' succeeds. That is why he is able to win the fight immediately after being kicked -down- over a ledge. From his perspective, up had become down and so falling down has actually lowered the ground up to him, leaving Grievous with the high ground, which he lost when upside down Obiwan was propelled up (to him) onto the edge which from our point of view was below him.

As the duel was long lasting, Maul understood that the more experienced yet older Jedi Master would tire and be a prime target to focus and kill (since Maul himself was in peak physical condition due to his youth and training, and could definitely overpower and outlast him), not to mention how strategically beneficial it would be in demoralizing the Jedi padawan in watching their Master die and having to then fight on their own.
Furthermore, Qui-Gon's fighting style form 2 Ataru was weakened when he pushed Maul alone in a close quarters position (Form 2 is more effective with larger environments as it uses agility and acrobatics in it's techniques, meaning greater space accommodates this). With him being separated from Obi-Wan, exhausted from a long duel and his fighting style weakened, he was ripe for the killing as he was also the greater threat at the time yet the weakest he had been throughout the entire fight. It's no surprise he unfortunately fell first for these reasons.

The Trilogy of 1, 2, and 3 are, and I think always will be the best. They were choreographed so well in the battles. There were multiple saber fights in each one. There was just the right amount of intelligent humor. And just the right amount of love, and despair. The old ones were great, just ahead of their time. The new ones are just not the same. They have put in a lot of childish humor, and you can tell SJW’s have really influenced where Star Wars is going. Not that I don’t think Rey is cool, was hoping she was a Kenobi. Come back George Lucas.
The issues with the new movies was that it felt like the actions had little consequences? Like the rise of skywalker they made it feel like the resistance had lost then suddenly had hope then lost it and then won all in the space of like 20 mins. Rey was a little op but wished they didnt have her flip back and forth of "will she turn will she not"

It certainly tracks across their recent Disney+ franchises. Loki, Hawkeye, Strange 2, Kenobi etc. Main character is now an old has-been and is upstaged by a sassy young thing whose only flaw is her tragic backstory.

I know that not everyone will agree with this but I actually like these three movies better than the older ones. They reveal a lot of backstory not just on how anakin skywalker became darth Vader but also what he was like before that

I would say, star star wars is definitely a soo good story. But they don't spend much on thier movies thats why, they ain't as popular as other sci-fi movies.
No shit Sherlock, that’s what the prequels were supposed to do. There’s a number of elements which make them poor films when compared to the originals though. Plot holes, poor writing, over use of cgi etc. They’re still decent films, but don’t hold a candle to the originals. At least they’re watchable though, unlike the sequels.
