  • Wagner airless sprayer makes painting so easy that anyone can do it. After testing the Wagner control pro 150 i can definitely say that wagner has once again proven to be a brand which makes affordable and quality equipment for not only DIY but also contract / commercial grade applications. This product has exceeded my expectation particularly being an entry level airless sprayer at $450. The air less sprayer makes the difficult and time consuming parts of any project a piece of cake. Thanks for the video Bill! I'm a professional painter. Honestly, I prefer rolling interior walls with a 3/4" nap wool roller and a five gallon bucket. It puts more paint on the wall and, IMO, gives a better finish. As you can see from the video, you can end up with paint lines with a sprayer. I never use a sprayer in a house to spray walls with existing flooring and furniture. The time you spend masking and covering, you could be done with a roller. Even on new construction or remodels, I prefer rolling. The 130 is great for spraying baseboard, trim and interior door/jambs. I spray them outside if they're new. I spray trim, jambs and base without wall masking and then cut/roll the main wall color. Hands down a better finish than a brush. I prefer a smaller tip like a 211. A 515 puts out A LOT of paint and you have to move fast. For the DIYer, a smaller tip is more forgiving. A sprayer also works well to spray corners instead of a brush. For the DIYer, you may not like the over spray if spraying indoors. ALWAYS strain your paint, this reduces tip clogs and reduces your frustration. All in all the 130 is a great little DIY sprayer, just be sure to understand your project and the limitations / benefits of a sprayer.

I've finally decided on the 130 for my home DIY needs. I'll be painting my entire exterior and interior, as well as all my cabinets (two bathrooms, laundry room and kitchen), as well as several pieces of furniture. It does it all and it's so easy to setup and takedown. I cannot wait to get started. We close on the house next week!! (My first home!!)

I'm pretty impressed with the 150's performance. I used the previous generation, PaintCrew for 10 years. Happy with it but cleaning was a chore. The new lid/cover is flimsy but they did improve on the tub, paint does not stick so easier to clean. Removing the carry handle was just cheap too. The inlet & outlet valves are much simpler, easier to clean & I HOPE they will be durable. Last gen, you can renew all of that with just new o-rings. The nice thing about o-rings is they get caked up with paint you can just toss them for pennies.

Bought 130 for outdoor facia, n soffit on a house made it maybe 1 hr ½ before it made a loud kicking noise then it stopped spraying. Took it back to where I got it and they would not refund my money, so I swapped it out for another one, same thing happened to the 2nd one. Took that one back tried to get my money refunded but the store would not so I swapped it for another one and I just put it in my closet and finished with a roller and brush.

Loved all your Wagner spraying videos. Well this one has made my decision harder. I’m a firm believer in “buy cheap, pay twice”, so have been about to pull the trigger on a 350, but it’s just me doing DIY around my house. Maybe the 150 would be fine?
Hmmm $450 for a 150, or $895 for a 350 (skid) from a place at Merrylands. Tough call … the cleanup on the 150 looks much more pleasant, but there are two extra tips with the 350. So hard to make the call.
Also … what is with Wagner having no consistency between models numbers globally? Does my head in.

None of these Wagner painters are professional grade. Even something like the 350M is not going to hold up to regular use, unless it's a bunch of really small jobs, like painting furniture and stuff.
I was curious if Wagner ever started making pro grade sprayers and they still don't. That's how I ended up here. This is fine for a DIY type person who doesn't expect too much from it.
The good sprayers are ridiculously expensive. I have a Graco that is going for about a $1000 now and it even says that it won't last for doing large jobs every week. I have had it for about 8 years and it still works great and I don't even know how many large jobs I've done with it. This type is also something that you can buy parts and rebuild it on site if needed.
If you're just starting out as a professional painter and plan to use your unit on a regular basis, you're going to need to spend at least about $1,000 or keep buying new sprayers. And that's only if you're not doing really large jobs like commercial work. The Graco 390 is good for a painting contractor who is just starting out.
Titan is also a good company for professional grade sprayers and I think they might even be a little cheaper than Graco. I used a large Titan brand sprayer back in the late 1990s doing large insurance restoration jobs and that thing was a beast until some Yahoo's came in after I left who didn't know how to clean it properly. That is the key to making any of these sprayers last, which is proper cleaning and storage prep.

    Seriously good video, Bill.
I'm guessing you've heard the stories about spraying, versus rolling behind spraying, versus simply rolling.
How about a comparison of the three, painting bits of timber, leaving them dry, then scratching them with a key or something sharp to check, the adhesion?

Back rolling is something I would only do on a new surface or area which may have poorer adhesion , would be a good test though 👍

Trust me on this don't get the 130 spend a little more and get at least the 150 or 170 I religiously thoroughly cleaned my 139 out and it lasted just 25 gallons of paint was shot leaking from the bottom

Defo be checking this great little system out on my next trip to Bunnings!
Great to see a professional give an honest and wholehearted review. Thanks Bill! 👍
Would love to know how you would go about painting terracotta roof tiles? Would love to give my dull and lifeless moss covered roof a face lift but have no idea how to go about it

Generally speaking terracotta roof tiles rarely get repainted and they get cleaned instead. Personally I refuse to clean them as terracotta tiles are extremely slippery when wet, be very careful 👍
