In Malaysia we called it Serawa or Kuah Durian (Durian Soup).
We normally eat it with a bread or Roti Jala or Glutinous rice (we will colouring the rice with artificial color & turmeric).
We normally treat this as a desert except when eat together with the rice.
The way we cooked it is almost the same as the kid did. But we use Gula Melaka or in english knows as Coconut Palm Sugar & it is normally in blocks.
We rarely use white sugar because the taste will not be as delicious as using the Gula Melaka. The gula melaka will make the Serawa more caramelized & darker. We will use the white sugar occasionally but depends (if needed).
and not all kind of Durian can be used to make a delicious Serawa. Ideally to use Durian that has a sweet but strong bitter taste 😊

I have absolutely no problem with Chef Seyhak speaking in his native tongue, and he does speak English and very well indeed, also you may understand that he is a young boy and I think the world of him as his passion for cooking is what makes his CZcams channel, and I can understand exactly what he is cooking and I only speak English, please just enjoy what Chef Seyhak is actually achieving at such a young age🙏❤️🤗🥰🇦🇺🦘

😂 I understand your feeling.
Some people could not stand the smell because the smell is a bit gasses & quite sweet/bitter smell. Not sure how to describe it 😂
But if you put the durian in a closed space,definitely not good because the smell i very strong.
So it must be open & eaten (for beginners) at open spaces.
But trust me. A Lot of people fell in love with Durian once they tasted it. They will immediately understand why the smell is like that & accept the smell 😊
Hence why, you should try is you can. come to South East Asia countries like Malaysia, Thailand & Indonesia.
We have a farm & you can find it anywhere 😊

The taste is super delicious & sweet & bitter too. Depending on what kind of durian you tasted. Not all durian especially the most green durian taste delicious. You need to find someone who are experts in search for good/delicous & fresh durian 😄
Where did you met durian? and care to explain your story on where, when, what kind of places (such as was it at a store or at the garden,etc) & did the durian had been opened up 😅
