  • Let's build a time travel device with a cell phone, microwave, and television in this episode of Anime Science. We're continuing Steins;Gate, and in this video I go in-depth about the accuracy of the Phonewave used in the show. The next Steins;Gate video should be the last part covering that anime, and that will talk about data compression, mind uploading, and the Time Leap Machine. Other Anime Science topics are still planned, and may come out before the final Steins;Gate video. If you have any suggestions, leave them in the description or talk to me on Twitter or Discord.

    Amazing video! The two videos actually, you did a great job researching all this, i'm looking foward to the next one. But don't forget that the Time Leap Machine doesn't send your memories back in time as you said in 10:55, instead, the Time Leap Machine send a backup only, so, your original memories would continue on you "You" that has used the machine. BUUT, if the backup is fully received in your brain hours before (like every time the machine works in the original series), your actions and thoughts will be different from that point that you received the new memories, and the Worldline will change, so your original "you" not existing anymore such as that original timeline. So the point of view that we follow in the anime become the point of view of the "backup", that now is the original. This doesn't make that much difference in the series, but it's how it works, and in Steins; Gate 0, in the moment that the machine doesn't work in the last episodes, this makes the difference: because the original Okabe have living his life normally until he gets brain dead in 2025. Until in 2036, Daru puts the backup made in 2011 (that was sucefully made, but now sucefully send back in time, just somewhere in the pc since that) in okabe's old body (that, once is brain dead, the state of the brain would not enter in conflict with the years old memories, as it was said from Kurisu as the rule of 48hrs).
    I think you already know that, after all you did those two amazing videos after much time of research and all kkk, but, if its of some help...
    (and sorry for english errors, i don't speak english very well)

    • @Wolfborgg
      @Wolfborgg  Před 2 lety +8

      Very true, it's an important element to consider. I view it kind of similar to how the D-mails would work if Okabe didn't have the Reading Steiner ability: he'd perceive nothing to change but a different worldline would be affected with the copy that's trying to make changes. With the Time Leap Machine it's just that we only follow the story of the copy, but the original still stays behind unaffected. There's a robot horror game called SOMA and a movie called The Prestige which plays with this idea of copying memories and how they connect with identity as well. This is such a crucial part of how the Time Leap Machine works that I've already planned an entire section of the next video to try to go over that. Thanks so much for your thoughts!

    Hobby phone modder here, most phones, especially at time of the show and manga, have Internal pins that connect to the antenna array.
    Some phones could even route that to the charger pins. The dock is likely connected to the magnetron. Good thing one of them understands electrical engineering enough to not fry the phone instantly 😜

    It was my impression that the lifter is, aside from making the singularity spin, also used to control the gravity inside the kerr black hole to make escape a possibility. They only alluded to it in the VN by saying that the lifter could float and hence generated anti-gravity, but it was never explained further.

    Hey great Theory! I just noticed one thing you say: 11:42 you say that the dmail would affect another worldline but theres a problem with that.
    There is only ONE worldline at a time. Okabe doesnt change worldlines the world changes around him with this conclusion it CAN ONLY affect the worldline and change it. Otherwise i completely agree with everything said and you did a great job explaining!

    • @sureshmakwana8709
      @sureshmakwana8709 Před 3 lety

      Yes you're absolutely correct

    • @Wolfborgg
      @Wolfborgg  Před 2 lety +1

      I don't believe that there's only one worldline at a time. If this were true, then it would be impossible for the D-Mails to be sent in the first place, as in the new worldline the D-Mail isn't created but only received. As such the logical conclusion to me would be that these multiple worldlines all exist at the same time and these devices allow them to interact with each other rather than affect their current worldline. The world is only perceived to change around Okabe because of his Reading Steiner ability through D-Mails, whereas with the Time Leap Machine (which I plan to cover next) sends a copy of his memories back in time, at which point his changes then create a new slight variation of that worldline. This is all kind of backed up as well with the concept of Attractor Fields in effect (which I forgot to mention in this video). At least that's how I understand all this, but if you have something that proves otherwise please send it my way! Glad you enjoyed the vid!

    The speed of the particles in the microwave should be the speed of light since they are just EM radiation, while in LHC they collide hadrons which are basically cores of atoms, and they are sped up to the near speed of light before they collide, therefore particles in the LHC have much more mass and energy then the ones in the microwave.

    • @Wolfborgg
      @Wolfborgg  Před 2 lety

      It's kind of both actually. Both the microwave and the LHC create black holes, they just use the LHC black hole to compress their memory data later for the Time Leap Machine, which I cover in another video. I'm guessing they needed to use both because the LHC black hole does not have a naked singularity, which is a requirement for time travel. And the Phonewave probably isn't reliable nor efficient enough for compressing terabytes of memories. I'm assuming the Actual Time Machine is developed by solving that problem.

    might be misunderstanding, but could the reason that everyone doesn't die from the fusing be because every time they use the microwave, they send themselves on to a worldline where they never sent the previous text to begin with?

    • @TechnoplasmProductions
      @TechnoplasmProductions Před rokem

      Well there are examples of them using the phonewave to send a message but it doesn’t change enough to actually change the worldline. So, even if that was true there would still be inherent risk.
