I've put over 1200 miles on mine and totaling 63.5 mpg for the life of the vehicle. I routinely get 70+ mpg for my daily 40 mile trip to and from work.

If he was confused about pronunciation, Hyundai has commercials on CZcams that pronounce it for you. LOL! My niece recently bought a 2020 Ioniq Hybrid and she seems to like it. It gets stupid high gas mileage (I think I read the range is over 650 mi?). I know hybrids can be weird about shutting off when you pull up to a stop light (no AC!) but I don't know whether the Ioniq does this also. Other than that, looks like a pretty slick car. I do see that the Ioniq factory warranties are much longer than Toyota's for the Priius. That's doesn't mean Ioniq is better than Prius, but it would be a plus if I were shopping for this model.

For me personally what Makes the big difference is adaptive cruise control. I actually got to the point on my Toyota that I really used it and it’s a big deal for me. That Hyundai is only putting it on he SEL and Limited is annoying. For people who are dealing with an illness like mine highway driving is a big deal with adaptive cruise control because it assist in awareness.. when I notice I have to use it more than once it’s time to pull over. I had it on my Toyota Corolla and now I am trying to decided where I want to go in my start into the hybrid world. I think I want to go low gas before I go full electric and I may go with the Honda Insight depending on the standard safety options but.. I’m think right now it’s Hyundai because I hate CVT engines and in this case I don’t see even how the CVT is even helping.

It won't be as good as toyota hsd, why? Because: ioniq can not pulse and glide so toyota will win in mpg, it has many components that can fail like 3 clutches! serpentine belt, 12v generator, dct hydraulic actuator that requires calibration etc. Comparing to prices in Europe it has almost same price like new corrola hsd which does not have these problems and can have up to 10years of warranty on whole hsd system. Ioniq is much more expensive in maintenance due to many complicated elements which do not exist in toyota hsd cars. Ioniq has only one electric motor and just support ice while toyota has planetary power split device and two electric motors that serve as a gear and clutch and the system is much more advanced in toyota. Value lost is very high for ioniq, toyota keeps value.

HSD has no belt, has 1.8l so has bigger stock than 1.6l from hyundai, has no fluid gearbox actuator like ioniq...it is just simpler and much more pure construction and more reliable at the end. In mg country taxi cabs are only toyota hsd, maybe ioniqs are just a few and also price is almost same so everybody takes toyota...
