I've done it ever since I started squatting. Never had a single problem. O-lifting uses momentum too, don't see them complaining.
What I would caution against is going heavy in a short time with roids. Tendons take longer to adapt, so I've heard of a couple cases where they injured their knees because of that. Just stick to a stable progressive overload and all should be fine. Just my 2 cents, input welcome.

Except that it puts extreme tension on the patellar tendon and the undersurface of the patella as it is pulled back across the femoral groove, and can result in chondromalacia of the patella. Clarence Kennedy is famous for his pause squats and you will see him wearing a tension band that crosses his patellar tendon. I don't recommend doing them too often.

I WISH there was CZcams back in 2000 when I was a senior in High School. I squatted 945lbs. YES It was the most I ever even attempted and I shockingly I was able to do it a lot easier than I thought. That was as many 45lb. Plates we can put on the Bar. But to be honest I was trying anymore. It was so heavy I could barely slide my feet back just 1 foot.I just wanted to see what I was capable of as did my teammates and coaches. It wasn't till 2 years later that I realized the Olympics had weight lifting and I remember correctly 945lbs Would've placed 1st. Maybe even been a record at that time. But after 2 years removed and a kid on the way work was all I was worried about. At 41 yrs. Old I wish I gave it a shot. Those were the glory days I guess.

Is there any added benefit from a strength point of view in pausing for more than a second? The way I see is that pausing for one second is the same as pausing for five seconds in the sense that both remove the stretch reflex at the bottom and you have to rely on your raw strength. So wanted to see what you think about it.
