- Once again we visit the east lancashire railway in bury for there 1940s weekend which took place on the 27th 28th and 29th of May 2023
has usual it was a fantastic experience over the 3 days the weather was wonderful and the spirts where high the management staff and all the Volunteers did a fantastic job with the organisation of the event

A great video but I wonder why there were so few attendees at the event? I've attended the ELR 1940s weekend every year for the last ten years or more and have never seen it so quiet which is a great shame because all the re-enactors work so hard to recreate the 1940s look, atmosphere, sounds, etc. Perhaps it was poorly attended because someone in the ELR organisation decided it would be a good idea to charge circa £30 each just to stand on Bury station platform whether they wanted to ride the train or not? I watched loads and loads of people turn away as soon as they were told they'd have to but a full price train ticket. What a loss of revenue THAT idea was!
Every railway and events like this are struggling now, many just cannot afford to live never mind go for a day out somewhere. ELR and the re enactors put on a great show and out of 3 I went to in 3 weeks I thought this was the best of them and will go again all being well. I am not suggesting you do, but far too many go to preserved railways take lots of video and photos complain they have not done so and so or restored whatever and never pay a thing. I saw that today on my day out, someone complaining a certain locomotive was only running on Sunday, had they bought a platform ticket? No.
