In today’s episode of Figuring Out, we have Dinesh Thakkar in conversation with Raj Shamani. He is the managing director of Angel One which is a Fintech company providing broking services, margin trading facilities, research services, depository services, investment education, and financial products distribution to its clients.
In this episode, we started talking about his journey of starting Angel One from scratch, and how he took 1.5cr-2crs from his friends, and how their investment has turned into 100s of crores. He also shared how Harshad Mehta's scam affected the market and how he came out of it. He then shared how his company is growing around 80-85% consumer base every year and how much profits they make. We discussed what went wrong in Paytm, what is the new generation investing in, and three tips that he would like to give any young person who is just starting their investment journey.
Towards the end, we talked about the mistakes people make while investing and what are the things they should avoid. We then talked about why he became the associate partner in IPL and what is his strategy or thought process behind it. Then we talked about the different prices of various collaborations in IPL and how he never invested in equity himself. We ended our conversation by talking about his car collection. It's so obvious that things are not improving. I'm looking at high-yield dividend stocks. Selling 200k worth of equities is stupid without reinvesting it. I might turn to cash soon if I don't invest it. Any particulars? (Buying bonds or CDs is not for me)
The economy and stocks are two different things these days
I also think everyone needs a Margin of Safety in their portfolios and just remember, It's time in the market versus timing the market.

Financial planning is like navigation. If you know where you are and where you want to go, navigation isn't such a great problem. It's when you don't know the two points that it's difficult..
People dont understand that the prices of things are never going back down. This inflation is deeper than we think. Those buying groceries are well aware that the real inflation is much over 10%. The increments dont match our income, yet certain investors still earn over $365,000 in stocks and assets. Wish I could accomplish that.
Very possible! especially at this moment. Profits can be made in many different ways, but such intricate transactions should only be handled by seasoned market professionals.

I think mixture is the best, start with index sip, then invest in bluechip companies when they are available undervalued.
He has the right to give his views, but choosing CORRECT stocks at CORRECT time is/will be 100 times better than index

Getting tips from a broker who earns from an options seller buyer is the best way to never get wrong
Dividend yield of many good stocks in India is far better than the rental yield of properties even in metros like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi NCR. Also the liquidity is much higher in case of equity products (direct stocks, MF's) compared to Real Estate. Hence there is no better substitute other than equity in Indian Market. Even the worst performing long term equity MF has delivered a CAGR of more than 13% in the last 30 year period!
Moral of the story
Just buy direct growth index funds and hold them forever 😄

i do trading in the stock market and same time i do invest in mutual fund like vanguard funds, i track both stock market and mutual funds and compare it mutual funds always come out better returns than stock market, so whoever wants to do investment in stock market go with mutual funds

Real estate gives 6% return in rent+ propert appreciation 10% total = total 16 %
Stock only grows 10%
