- Playing triplets within a strumming pattern can be tricky. I'm going to break it down into manageable parts, and you'll be incorporating triplets into your strumming in no time!
I'll teach you two different ways too triplet strum and the benefits of both ways so that you can choose the method that best suits you.
At the end of the video, there is a 12 bar blues exercise so that you can practice using both methods and see which one is best for you.

In addition to giving really useful lessons on ukulele, you are giving lessons on being well dressed and put together. Most of CZcams is filled with people wearing tee-shirts and cutoff jeans. I am constantly amazed at your ever changing wardrobe.
Thank you for noticing ☺️. I’ve always liked to dress up, and I’m happy that you don’t find it intimidating. Thank you for watching. I appreciate you so much.
So true!
Agree, well said Sir.
I am self-taught on the ukulele and from the very beginning, your lessons on youtube helped me so much. I recently started adding triplets to my strumming patterns and this really helped me understand how they work. Thank you so much for all your hard work! your videos always help me play better!
AWWW!!! That's so sweet! You lit up my morning :). Thank you for taking the time to watch and for writing me such a sweet comment. It really made my day. Lot so of love!
Quite difficult indeed! I learned the saying “cho-co-late” to get the pace down. “Tri-pl-et” works well too!
I’ve never heard of that before! Great idea 👍🏼.
Oooo look at those skills!! You’re killin’ it, Katie!!
Awwww Dylan! That means so much coming from you ❤️❤️❤️❤️.
As beginner it was great to understand how you use the triple. It is new to me but great to lern such Rhythms with Ukulele. Usually I play accordion and not used such wonderful string instrument rhythms.
This was really helpful. I've been struggling with the index-thumb method and now I get it. I'm slow, but the understanding is there.
Such a fun technique! Cool of you to teach it with the blues, Katie!
Great job, Katie! Just when you think you've learned all the strums there's more! Love you!
I’m glad that it helped! I feel the same way. There’s so much to learn.
Well thank you for teaching me! Whenever I tell someone that I learned how to play ukulele through CZcams they can't believe it. It's all thanks to you!
So glad to have found this video. This is a strumming pattern I've been struggling to play.
Thank you for the lesson! It is very useful.😉
Thank you for watching, and I'm so happy that it made sense :). This can be a tricky topic for some people, so I'm so happy that you want to try it and found it helpful :). Have a great day!
amazing video, thank you!
Oh!This lesson is great,it helps me to apply to certain songs.Miss Katie, thanks so much for your efforts and I love you so so much!
This is great! I've been wanting to learn some embellishments. Thank you!
Oh wow Katie you read my mind. Ive been wanting to learn this strum for ever. There is a beautiful youtube music video Hawaii Aloha, in this song Imua Garza does this strum its sounds so good and I had been trying to figure it out forever. Until now, thank you so much for this tutorial. You are the best I'm saving this to my favorites😁
Danny!!!! How are you? It's great to see you in the comments section again, and way cool that I can read your mind :). LOL! I'm so happy that this was something that you wanted to learn. I really think this can elevate one's playing, and I love any excuse to use my excess energy on my instrument. I also think this technique can scare people away because they may think that it's too complicate for them. Hopefully I broke it down so that it made sense. Let me know if you have any questions, and have a great day!
@@OneMusicSchool its good being here Ive been away for a bit my Mom had been really sick so I had been dealing with that but I think she is going to be fine now after surgery so all is good.
Yay another video! Always a pleasure to watch you, so talented 💓
You are so sweet! Thank you so much foR being here...and CONGRATULATIONS ON WINNING THE FIRST COMMENT!!!!!!

Wow! This is an excellent Triplet lesson. You have captured all the necessary information and sprinkled different methods of performing the triplet on top. This lesson is very helpful, thanks!
Thanks Bill! I really appreciate the time that you spent here with me, and I’m so happy that both methods helped. I wanted to incorporate more, but it looks like this was the right amount. Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it.
Great strumming, Katie!.....This can make a song so much interesting.........I like using my thumb when doing a triplet (after I stop sucking on it).......:)........Learning this at a a slow speed, is the key to making it sound really nice when you start speeding it up to the tempo you want........Just don't get a speeding ticket when doing this fast.........:)..........have a great day, Katie.......thank you, again!..........:)
HAHAHAHAH!! This made my morning! I will will make sure that I obey all traffic laws when playing :).
Great thank you
This is great. I can start using this right away. Thanks so much!
WOOOHOOOO! I'm so happy tit something that you want to try right away! That makes me so happy. Thanks for watching and have a great day!
Katie, I have 15 Christmas Carol gigs scheduled in December, mostly nursing homes, retirement places and a couple churches. Always looking for ways to spice up these wonderful carols. Thanks for giving me some good ideas.
That's so wonderful! They must LOVE you. I'm so happy that you're sharing your gifts and spreading joy. Thank you for what you are doing.
Hi Everyone! I have a chart for the 12 bar blues exercise in the description box, and it also has both triplet strumming patterns notated, so make sure you print that off if you need a visual :). Also, I used a fast triplet strumming pattern in my "Rockin Robin" collaboration video with Rock Class 101. I'll think it below just in case you missed it.

Hello! Do you have any video on how to store, clean and care for ukulele? I love your channel
Wow this was very easy to follow. Honestly When I clicked on the video I thought it was going to be like Taimane’s triplet video but they r nothing alike. Haha this was different, but great!
I had no idea that Taiwan’s had a triplet video. She’s amazing 😊. I’m happy that this made sense and that it helped. It means a lot to me that you watched.
Yes, it helped a lot. Very good step by step tutorial. I think Taimane has 2 triplet videos, but they are a little too difficult for me to follow. I love her flamenco style.though
Thank you You are my sunshine
You are so sweet! Thank you for being here, and thank you for being you.
@@OneMusicSchool You are so perfect😙
Hi Miss Katie! Thank you so much for the tutorial on triplet strumming! I always don’t get it but i think i will try again! Thank you so much! :)
I really hope that this helps. As always please let me know if you have any questions.
One Music School Is triplet strumming important and if yes why?
It's a fun way to make a song sound interesting. It also makes you look more advanced when you play. You don't have to learn it, but it can set you apart from other players if you know how to add it into a song. That was a good question.
One Music School Oh ok Thank you so much for replying! :)
Of course!
2:36
I learned this strum when I tried to play the Imperial March
That would sound amazing!
I see lots of videos on triplets but never a few song examples. That would be greatly appreciated
THAAANK YOOOU
Thanks for watching! It's a honor that you would spend your time here with me :).
Thank you. This was a good explanation of the two kinds of strumming triplets. I think I have to think about the use of it and of course practice a lot. I noticed at once that my hand wants to do other things then the head tells them ;-)
By the way... today I listened to "What if" by Coldplay several times and searched for a ukulele tutorial for it. But there is NONE. Perhaps you would like to teach me (us) this very emotional song. Would fit perfectly to your voice...
Hi and thanks for watching! I completely understand where you're coming from when you tell your hands to do one thing and your hands don't respond :). I'm so happy that you found this helpful. I also think this technique can scare people away because they may think that it's too complicate for them. Hopefully I broke it down so that it made sense. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll look into the Coldplay song. My schedule is super tight, but I do appreciate you leaving a suggestion.
Am i the only one watching these tutorial vids on 0.5x playback speed to be able to play anything😂
I’m glad that you are trying it!!! I’m so proud of you.
It seems to feel most natural to me when I come up with the thumb. However, it does not ring out when I do it. I try doing it harder but it just sounds like my nail scrubbing. Could it be that my nail is very very short? Do I need to grow out my thumbnail a little?
Third comment fo the day! Thank you for watching :). I think you should try to grow your thumb nail out jut a little and see if it works for you.
0:11 this sound like the old 4 note strum for me cause the accent is on 4th
?
That’s fine. Thanks for watching 😀.

@@OneMusicSchool you welcome🙌🙌
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😘
Hi DAWN!!! How are you?
@@OneMusicSchool Hi, I am fine. How about you?
☝🎶🏡This is GREAT Katie. Adds a wonderful sounding flare to a tune. I hear a slight difference using the thumb on the triplet, find this technique helps make the first beat a little longer, smiles of like😁
A great video as I'm gifting two of these Sun Star sopranos for Christmas. They're beginners, so to hear and see the music from these little beauties, and learn a cool sounding technique is a bonus. Thanks Katie. Happy day.
Oh, and of course, I'll ask them to subscribe.
I’m glad that you liked the different options. I tried to give as much I for without being overwhelming, so I’m happy that this made sense 😀.
I don't get my thumb to follow.. 😀 I just can't coordinate that 😀
All I hear is "cipolle"
Funny!
