Honestly I love your combination of digital use and physical stationery use. It's really cool to see someone optimizing their productivity without using one extreme or another. Also those are really sick pencils.
I guess I'm quite late to this, but I love the change of pacing! much faster and very condensed with information, made me feel like I spent 2 minutes watching instead of 10! I also agree with the idea that almost any ink is good enough, as I am currently using parker quink in the dark blue variant. I also recently started collecting fountain pens, about 3 months ago, it's been an amazing hobby of mine. So far, I've gotten a parker 45 in teal green, a Shaeffer imperial 3 in burgundy brown, a random vintage fountain pen from Hungary with a syringe filling system, a Pilot metropolitan in the retro colourway, and a parker 88' in matte green (currently using). But, my next buy will most likely be a Rotring, after the review you gave and the appealing design that coincided with mine. Thank you for this amazing video!
Great video, I'm curious as to how you use your productivity journal to be more effective with your studying and track deep work hours. And how you go about setting your goals, if you have a criteria you go through and such. And I noticed the Atomic Habits visuals with extra wording in-front of your setup, it would be a really cool video if you went through your environmental setup and explain the meaning of these types of things and how they motivate you. You've inspired me to change my environment and it has helped my life, thank you.
i usually have long term goals that set an overall narrative for 13 week blocks. so during those 13 weeks you chase one objective that contributes into a larger goal defined in the journal
I love these kinds of content man!! I love getting to know more about you and your background and stuff! hope you continue doing these kinds of videos cause i really enjoy them
Unless you build a robotic cat that looks just like Mika and make the cat destroy all the stationery. Sorry, I just finished 2 seasons of The Big Bang Theory
I love stationery talk!! My favorite mechanical pencil is a pencil my grandpa gave me that he randomly found when he organised his desk drawers that haven't been organised since the 70s probably. It has no brand and he doesn't remember where it came from but god I love this pencil. Never have I had such a good drawing experience (I use it for sketching mostly). The day the pencil breaks, I will break too.
I've been using the Oren Pentel 0.2 pencil. It's a 0.2 pencil which makes it super super thin which is a really interesting drawing and writing experience since the pencil provides a rounded sheath around the lead itself.
I would say it's quite difficult to wash out though, so when you do decide to clean your fountain pen it's extremely difficult to get the pigment out of the pen
I'm a big fan of the rotring 600, i use it everyday to take notes and do my work. I also have a pilot h-156 which is a really light pencil that is surprisingly nice to write with, and it has a nice retractable tip that seems to be pretty reliable/durable. Thinking about getting a fountain pen soon, but I do almost all my writing in pencil so I'm not sure if it's worth the investment. Thanks for the video James 😳
ey dw about writing everyday in your journal. it's there to catch your thoughts when you need it. Some days there just isn't much to write lol so it's all good. I tried a similar thing (write everyday) but letting go of the "guilt" of missing days is kinda sick 😎
My go-to pen is the Rotring 600 ballpoint using Schmidt East-flow refills which are ballpoint refills but feel very rollerball-y. For me its the perfect in-between of ballpoint and rollerball. I find ballpoint to oily and dirty but rollerball to inky lol. Definitely a good budget option and entry point if u dont wanna cash out for a fancy european fountain pen :flushed:
@@darklord998 yeah, you can go a long way with budget or mid range fountain pens. Of course, if you’d like to spend several grand on them, you can as well :)
@@icarus5676 machined pens in particular seem to be popular among small individual makers/sellers online. Many people out there machining pens on their own, which i imagine would match the metallic identity of a rotring.
Love hearing about people their stationairy hehe. Totally agree on the non-totally-white paper, pure white paper just kinda hurts my eyes. I just get (almost all) my stationairy at Muji :3.
before I got into journaling and actually taking my studies seriously, I never was particular with the materials I used, but I've noticed I write differently depending on the paper and pen, so now I'm more intentional with what I look for and is starting to discover what my likes are. For some reason, I also dislike white paper, maybe because it just looks so sanitized? Like the whiteness of our screens, so even when I write digitally, I change the page color and only change it back before I pass it. Anyway, thanks for the recos!
The pen that I've been using this school year is the Uni Jetstream. It is a ballpoint pen, but it's as smooth as a gel pen, and it doesn't smug when highlighted. But for algebra and physics class I love to use the kuru toga. I love how my pencil stays sharp since the lead continuously rotates as I write. Nice video James and keep up the good work.
Do you use the Uni ball jetstream 0.7 mm? are they good going and have exchangeable refills? Do they support fast rigorous writing? Which ones are better for maths and quick writing stuff the jetstream or koru toga? Thanks
Being an Indian Cello makes the best pens, ink pens and mechanical pencils plus it's cheap but it doesn't skimp on the quality. Another favourite of many student would be Reynolds which is like the OG of pens. If you know, you know. 😂
You probably havent used any good (manufacturing wise ) stationary cause cello is pretty trash and the design of them makes no sense and those ball pens never run out so i have to throw them lol
My go to pen is the pentel energel. It’s a gel pen, needle tip that dries pretty quick and I enjoy this since I barely get those awkward gel blobs and I often use highlighters. For pacers, pentel p207 0.7 and tombow monograph0.5 Recently, I’ve gotten a fountain pen- nothing special just a pilot kakuno because it’s cheap and pretty good beginner entry pen.
Can’t deny the man fawning over mechanical pencils for 5 minutes, the most I relate to your fascination would be praising the liquidy smudgey pens in my toolkit as opposed to the tighter, thinner scratchy ones I can’t stand using. The calligraphy look of .5+ ball points just looks pleasant on graph paper

If I ever go back to school and take a class on campus I might journal again but my days are pretty formulaic (the same). I wake up and take my medication, empty the humidifier, and dry it out and rinse my mouth out with salt water. I work out for over an hour and than depending on what day it is I learn between 30 minutes of Russian, Swedish, Spanish, or French each. And in normal circumstances I would be doing homework all day but instead Duolingo. I maybe watch an hour of TV in the evening, watch YoTube for one more hour, go to bed, and than the same thing the next day.
i havent tried a rotring pencil yet. i always thought it was expensive, but then i would buy many cheaper pens which… yea makes no sense lol But my favorite pencil so far is the pentel graph 1000 for pro. not to be mistaken with the graphgear 1000. It’s lightweight, but the construction of the of the pen is supreme so it doesnt feel cheap. if you like a heavier pencil, it may not be for you. but honestly i thought i preferred pencils with more weight, and was pleasantly surprised with the graph 1000 for pro
I'd really love a video where you would just go over all the ebook readers you own. Just to compare them for a couple different usecases. I'm really interested in the Hisense Touch but it's expensive and there are no really good videos on it, same goes for a lot of the boox tablets. It's just spec reading instead of actual experience with the product. Especially for stuff like reading manga on it aswell.

I’ve tried two rotring 600s, and I love them but I just keep dropping them and I leave them out on tables where it’s easy to fall, on top of books and my cat also loves to toss things on the floor, so both of the tips broke.. I think it’s a me thing but it’s just worth saying.
The photos that you show with the name of the products are pretty cool. I would like to know more about them. Like, where are them from or what they mean to you. I don't know if I'm just tripping about random photos, but they catch up my interest
