This is just wonderful. I don't know the language, but a translation says the gist is "I would like to fly like birch leaf / I would like to fly like a small bird". It's wistful but upbeat - a musical inspiration.
I think it's a very beautiful song. A large woodland as my home, A roof of juniper overhead, I range the beaches, pass through alleys (??), I go below the glade edges, A large woodland as my home, etc. etc.
I like the album version better, it's slightly slower in tempo, doesn't feel rushed like this does, a bit. Still, an amazingly talented group of musicians, and this is a great song, with beautiful lyrics.
Helló! November 1.-én Värttina koncert Prágában. Mi megyünk páran Budapestről. Sörgyár és városnézés este meg koncert. Ha valakit érdekel üzenjen iwiwen Pálvölgyi Jetinek
Suuri korpi kotinani,kotinani, korpi kotinani Päällä katto katajainen, katajainen, katto katajainen Rannat kierrän kujat kuljen, kujat kuljen, rannat kujat kuljen Ahon laidat alittelen, alittelen, laidat alittelen Lenteleisin kuin koivunlehti Liiteleisin kuin lintu pieni Vaan en oo lintu lentäjäksi Koivunlehtenä liehuvaksi...
Ooh... You find great singers and poets in Canada: Gilles Vigneault, Félix Leclerc, Mes aïeux, Les Colocs, and for the poets, Michèle Lalonde and Nelligan, and also Service you was a poet who write in English, but died in France.
@Dotadict0 Maybe Mari's quite fat, but her smile and her positive energy make her my favourite member of the band; and now that the other two are very busy with Kuunkuiskaajat (I don't like that duo, by the way), I pin all my hopes on her.
I don't ever remember sayting Celtic women are fakes. I was talking about the group Celtic Woman. As for the group, they are not fakes, but that group is definately a bit too theatrical for me. As for the history of Ireland, I know enough. I was raised in an Irish American household and I am a Gaelic Polytheist. And yes, I know the Norse have had quite the influence there, what's your point???
XD I know....I'm sorry. I actually enjoy listening to Varttina. Celtic Woman is made up of fakes... I just noted that because they are a group of women singing the traditional music of their homeland, much like Celtic Woman.
Amazing song, amazing girls, amazing group!! Bravo Värttinä!
in the death of winter, this Finnish music.... keeps me warm; chilling winds and inexhaustible snow keep me from melting!

Ayame-Chan, Värttinä is finnish word for a spindle, (this part of spinning-wheel, where Cinderella hurt her finger)

No.
It means 'The mind of the bird'.
'Mielilintu' would mean 'The favourite bird'.

Given their strong emphasis on female tradition and experience, "distaff" would probably be a better translation.
@Dotadict0

still slams
Close. It means the bird's mind.
Egads!?!
What a comparative!
V is soooooooo much better than CW.
Susan Aho
I miss Riikka's verse in this song (sung by her).
@Pulunen If you look at the Finnish lyrics the most appropriate translation in this context would be 'If I were a bird'
Finnish language is some 2000-> years old.
Jaakko Lukkarinen
XD It is like they are the Finnish version of Celtic Woman...
im glad i am irish!
The song is good though.. I like it.
A spindle
@Belphegor83
Kiitos!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

@jbog1618 Haha, I'll take Lassi Logren (The Violinist/Fiddler). ~
That Language is old finnish.... ;D
Some 100-500 years ago..... ;DD

Drop spindle
XD
I know....I'm sorry. I actually enjoy listening to Varttina.

why im chilean and not even european?
The Finns have to atone for inventing mobile phones .....
Finnish is beautiful, Karelian is beautiful, the Varttina girls are beautiful - the world would be an uglier place without Finns. :))
I love their music but they are such goofy dancers lol
What do you expect? Should they be backflipping while singing their butts off?
Melkein ymmärrän
That Language is old finnish.... ;D
