Great childhood memories. Sister Louise, may she continue to rest in peace 😢😢
If only these wonderful, meaningful hymns could be heard in our places of worship and in our homes..... I do, do wish
This song was sang at my sister's funeral by my grandmother and great aunt. I was 7 years old and I cried so much they took me away. I am in my 30s now but I miss her still so much. xx
my great, great, great grandfather Albert Midlane, wrote this hymn! Of course I love it!
Seems we may be related, my grandmothers maiden name was Midlane, she was from the Isle Of Wight.
My mother tells me she used to sing this song to me when I was a baby. It still is a lovely sentiment and melody when I'm tired. Thank-you for posting!
i have bad memories of this song, whenever i hear it i get sad
when i was in preschool , for one of the terms Not the very first. While returning back to school on the first day we got news that one of our students got hit by a car. I remember attending her funeral, and it was extremely sad from that day going forward i never ever forgot her and how i felt. It's a beautiful song i love it but i will never play it for my child because of this memory. All i think about is death and it just doesn't sit right with me playing this for my kid.
Just what I needed for my part in my grandchild's non-Christian Guide Parent naming (faugh!) I was asked to do a reading but I am planning to sing a hymn instead.
This can be regarded as an addition to my earlier comment.A long time ago (I can’t recall precisely how long) I had been looking for this children’s hymn and was rather puzzled and disappointed that you didn’t have it included in your multitudinous collection of songs and pieces for all age groups. I’ve only just found it and I am very pleased, although,as I said earlier don’t destroy this recording, but please do endeavour to find another fairly gentle rendition that is not scratchy.Thank you.Best wishes,Anthony R.Green
My parents also told me he's an ancestor of mine too. I used to sing it in primary school many moons ago.
Hey, he's my Great Great Great Uncle! Well met Ollie...
Can anybody post 'One Little Robin in a Cherry Tree'; which was the song they were known for? I'd love to hear that again. Not heard it for 50 years.
@plonk220a ME TOO - One little Robin in a Cherry Tree please ! It isn't available anywhere on the web
I thought there's a friend for everyone above the bright blue sky not just little children.
@plonk220a did you manage to find it in the end??, if so can you please tell me where i can get it from please as is very important
Hi Ollie, Wow Thanks for the very interesting comment. You must be very proud. William
@plonk220a did you find the song in the end? i so can u tell me where as is very important
I am pleased to have found this old children’s hymn, but I DO think that the quality of the recording is rather poor. That is not a criticism of the singers’ voices, but the recording was scratchy. I can suggest a reason why. It might be a 78rpm recording. If that is so,all I would ask is please would you find a clearer recording With THE SAME TUNE “IN MEMORIAM”. If you CAN find a clearer recording-but one still presented in a gentle manner, then do keep this one,but I concede that this presentation is very well expressed (apart from the scratch sound-so either way find a similar recording, without the scratching. If you are genuinely unable to fulfil my request, then please keep this one in your records.Anthony Green
