This video is for those who actually want to win at poker! If you play poker to: pass the time, socialize, goof off, donate money to your friends, support the casino staff, party like a rockstar without leaving your seat or any other reason then this video will NOT be for you!
Winning at poker is easy if you follow this strategy:
1. Find a game that you can beat
2. Play it a lot
3. Keep a proper bankroll
If you do these three things all the time and you will win in the long run. No luck is required but discipline is!
Discipline is defined as being able to behave and work in a controlled way that involves following specific rules and standards. You must clearly define your goal. Is it to win a little and never move up or are you trying to win a ton and move up to the highest stakes that you can play? You MUST do what is required of you in order to succeed! Never become distracted from your goal!
đ„ #1- Find A Game That You Can Beat đ„
You should either play with really bad players or be highly skilled at poker such that you are better than your opponents. Small stakes live cash games and tournaments are easily beatable. Middle stakes in the live poker arena are quite beatable too! Jonathan has load out a clear, easy-to-follow and implement framework over at PokerCoaching.com. Remember it is extremely important that you MUST study!
đ„ #2 - Play It A Lot đ„
Remember Jonathan's motto - 'Volume Cures Variance'! You will experience huge upswings and downswings throughout your poker career. Short term results are essentially irrelevant, so do not worry about them at all. Poker is one long game, do not sweat each individual session and look at your overall win rate after a big enough sample. Consider playing in poker games that let you put in a LOT of volume.
đ„ #3 - Keep A Proper Bankroll đ„
As your edge decreases, you need more buy-ins in your poker bankroll. This is the same as the variance of the game increases, you need more buy-ins! If you regularly play 1,000 person poker tournaments, you may need 300 buy-ins or more. If you play super soft cash games, you may only need 25 buy-ins.

JL giving three tips to win at poker. Havenât heard this one before. Let me guess: 1) Find a game thatâs fun. 2) Play it on the weekends. 3) Bank roll management is overrated.
I think you nailed it! I've never played above 1/3 before, but I like to play in my local 25/50 game once per week with my entire life savings. Never fails!

Hi Jonathan. I've been trying to get better at TH after winning an online tournament, and being ITM in about 35% of the ones I've entered... however I'm Def new, have A LOT to learn and get better with..
I'm trying to find out which game is best for me, but not a lot of the sit and go on PokerStars never fill in time, so not sure if that's best or MTT/Cash Games are the best.. any suggestions on that or just play them all 25% to figure it out? Thanks
Hello sharks đ
Is the hero journey in pcp ?
first of all thank you for all the content. One of your advice is to play a lot but exactly how much would you recomend to play in a week (I understand that more is better but what whould be your advice if I can't play every day)
Luck will ALWAYS be a factor, but through training and play time you can decrease its effect, or at least how often it influences your play.
Jonathan could you make a video outlining what you need to do to study please.
Iâm studying a fair amount but not sure if I am doing it correctly.
It would be fabulous and help a lot of people out I think
Knowing the math and calculating equity while applying it in real time is a start. I recommend workbooks for this. Reading books to understand the concepts while also playing is a good approach. Make sure the concepts apply to the game you are playing, for example cash vs tourney. Your strategy should be much different. Imo I learn better by reading and writing down info compared to hearing a person breakdown a hand. Lastly, as discussed in the video, understanding variance in probability and statistics is important
Thank you Neal. Very much appreciated. Do you recommend any particular work book?
Thank you for the education
You're welcome Mike!
Poker, just like any investment vehicle, the stock market as an example, is long term long run and if you are focused on âtodayâs results only,â you need to find another vehicle. Long term, if your bankroll is trending up, you will make money.
Playing even 100 online requires total concentration and focus often without reward even playing well. There is always a feeling that your opponents are using software, most are at least using powerful HUDâs. I donât dare play higher. I wish I could enjoy sitting on a computer all day alone but itâs not for everyone.
Thumbs upped!
Poker is very tough in st Louis
