My cockatiel turns 25 next year ❤️ Update: Sadly, Alley passed away in mid-April 2023, just a few months shy of his 28th birthday. I spent his entire with him. He was my best friend since I was 12 years old (I’ll be 40 in a week). I’ll miss him deeply for the rest of my life. Our bond was a once-in-a-lifetime companionship that I will forever be grateful to have been blessed with.
What do you feed your cockateil? Mine is q6 wks old and snubs at chop, mainly just wants to eat millet which I know is not very nutritious. She eats some small bird seed mix too.

@@cheshireterror624 Not necessarily true. Depends on the bird. Birds are individuals. Some birds are more interested in mimicry than others. My previous cockatiel was an excellent mimic and had a vocabulary of around 25 to 30 very clear phrases, hand raised bird, loved everyone but especially attracted to human females. Repetition and practice is the key to clarity, not the species.
I got my cockatiel Chipper when he was 4 months old from a birds specialty pet store. He was/is missing one of his toenails and I think he was being rejected by prospective owners for that reason(it's actually not a problem).Yet he looked healthy, he looked happy so upon my taking him home, I named him Chipper because he looked just that. Within a day, he learned how to perch on my finger and loved his head pets. And once Chipper learned how to whistle, talk and sing, there was no stopping him! It's interesting how you likened owning a cockatiel to owning a dog. When I take Chipper in his carrying case to get clipped, he'll do his repertoire during the ride--he provides the entertainment! He's also very docile when he gets his wings and toenails clipped at the place I got him from--the owner has referred to Chipper as "a sweet little bird." Chipper is now going on 15 years old. I’m looking into getting a Cockatiel as my budgies flew away a little while ago, so I came to this channel to see what you had on the topic of Cockatiels. Now I’ll share my personal opinion on the points in this video. Them being affectionate is the most important aspect of this video for me. My budgies never appreciated my attempts to make them feel safe, and usually ignored me or were frightened of me. Its important to me to have an affectionate pet because of this, so a Cockatiel would be perfect. The fact that Cockatiels are very calm is also perfect for me, because, like everyone, I like to take time to rest or read. Having a snuggle bird to do that with is exactly what I want. I don’t particularly mind about the lifespan as long as I get a few years with my bird. But its reassuring to know they live long enough to stay with me throughout my life. Teaching them to talk would be fun, but I don’t mind whether they can or not. Its not a point that stands out to me especially, but its preferable. Thanks for this video!
Unfortunately, I watched the "five worst things about owning a cockatiel" before watching this video and it left me with the feeling that you were sorry to have Pearl in your life. I can't imagine being without my 'tiels and you're right- they are affectionate like dogs and if they have been properly trained, they can't wait to see you, fly to you and interact with you. I was glad to see this video to find I was mistaken about your feelings for Pearl. She's a sweetie.
If you want a more vocal bird you should get a male bad thing about male cockatiels is that they are a bit more agressive but you can teach them songs! And it doesn’t matter if you have a male budgie because they will get along just as good as a female cockatiel and a male budgie! :3
I totally agree! My 9 month old male cockatiel “Baby” is the most adorable and amazing pet! He brings much joy to our family and is a chatter box!! He’s better than having a dog! Lol
Another awesome & informative video! :D My first cockatiel Mel was a really good talker. My current one Gilbee doesn't talk at all. He just sings & whistles & that's okay too! :D It's true they're cuddle-bugs, but I think getting them at young age helps with that. :D
Cockatiels really are the best. I had a Pearl cockatiel… he was so affectionate and loved us so much, so did we and he became a part of our family! The only thing that helps me get my mind off his death is other cockatiel videos and the fact that we’re getting another one.. he died last month and I can’t take all this pain….
You're absolutely right they're affectionate!!! Adorable! and have the sweetest of temperaments among the parrots! I love parrots. They're beautiful, zany and loaded with personality! 🦜💛🎨💛🦜
Yeah I have 2 that I was given because they where to noisy I believe the old owner called them. Chip and chap is singing alot true. But they are like my children already after a month. They will boss me around if they can. But I'm learning and I can now hold chip in my hand. They are truly the most aMASING little creatures. Get one they are not just birds that sits in ur cage. They are playfull and loving like many other pets And dear me are they stubborn haha
I'd like to add another benefit to owning a cockatiel. I chose to get a cockatiel because they sound the nicest. I might have got a conure but the sound was jarring for me.
Thank you for the Pros and Cons of owning a Cockatiel - We have a had raised named Whitecap (All white except cheeks) - Great information on why they itch and how to Spray them for comfort - God bless you, your`s and birds
We had 3 cocktaiels , each one of them had a different personality completely, the older 2 were hand raised by my brother, the female cockatiel was absolutely nuts she was crazy u can tell there’s something wrong inside her brain 😅 she used to scream for no reason 🤦🏻♀️ fly and hit the window 😒 and she was the dirtiest bird i have ever seen 🤣 the male cockatiel was just like a prince he always looked soooo good and clean and he didn’t like too much petting 🤣 the last one was male cockatiel i did the hand raising and he was unbelievably affectionate with me all he wanted to do all day long is to kiss and cuddle ❤️
I have a cockatiel which was not hand raised. She was 2 years old so taming her was hard and she is till not fully tamed but we are making a lot of progress
My bird sitter had two tiels that were 33 and 34 years old. My female passed away a year ago. 4 months ago I got a male who is now a year old. Much more active and finally is over his fear of my hands to some extent. Won't let me scritch his head yet but he comes to visit me numerous times now then goes off to play whereas my female used to just like to be on me all the time cuddling
I think Pearl is the sweetest natured cockatiel I've ever seen...you really scored! Love the videos of both the "children" since I've been a budgie owner for years. Thanks!
Ok TRying to convince my cockatiel that i am a good pet. I am affectionate, I take good care of my birdie, I talk to him all the time ,and keep trying to persuade him to let me scratch him, and to come to me often. However, Georgie is a bit of a standoffish guy. He says 'Hello Georgie' every morning when i uncover his cage, and now and then. He wants to step onto my and when he's tired of being on the floor, and expects me to offer my hand when he stands at the open door to his cage - which is almost always open- but snaps and bites (not hard but he means it) when I put my hand into to the cage or try to get hold of him. He will let me nuzzle him sometimes, but never returns it. So Georgie doesn't know yet what an affectionate, play ful thing I can be.
Nana tells me if I want to bird I have to know everything about 1 and I do now because thanks to you thank you you helped me and thank you for telling me now I can get a bird I love Cockatiels and they're not just Birds they're also your best friends and family members
The non hand raised ones are a bit difficult to train, especially if they are old. So before getting a bird, make sure you ready to take care of them. A lot of birds end up for adoption because the owners found they couldn't handle daily care routine or that their bird is being difficult.
I definitely resonate with what you said about your parakeet pillow! My Luna and Saturn just have a party once I let them out the cage 🤣 I’m talking flying all over and chirping like crazy 🤣 but it’s so cute 💛💛
I could use some suggestions if that’s okay. I adopted my rescue cockatiel over a year ago. He still has a hard time trusting me, he does try to bite me. I do go at his pace I have for the past year. He does step up but still gets scared when I go to try to get him to step up. He’s on a good healthy diet looooves veggies, especially bell peppers. Those are his favorite. But I noticed he doesn’t like being around me. He will tolerate me in the room and when I hold him. But soon as I movie he starts freaking out. He does come on command ONLY if I have treats. I’ve noticed recently he doesn’t even like doing that any more. I’m worried he will never bond with me. It’s been over a year infact it’s been a year and 4 months now. He is out of the cage almost 24/7 I keep it open he has ALOT of toys I try using that to help bond with him. But he just doesn’t like me. He does bite every now and then when I do his food, or grabbing stuff out of his cage. Even when I’ve done step up he has bit me. I know even if he never trust me I will always love him. But that doesn’t stop the worry he may never fully trust me. No matter what I do.
My cockatiel is called pearl because she is a pearl cockatiel and she reminds me like yours but right now it’s matting season and molten season so she is kinda grumpy
Oh my family’s first cockatiel, Paddy, was obsessed with my dad. She was a bit too comfortable out of the cage as she’d walk over my parents dinner…so dinner time she was in her cage. My parents still have my cockatiel Mikey, and she’s less tame but loves a spray bottle shower and likes the occasional wing stroke. Plus she used to sit at the bottom of her cage and go nose to beak with my old German Shepard… they were a bit obsessed with each other. He died a few years ago so I think Mikey still misses him. And yes we thought both birds were boys….
My little buddy means the world to me like my child talks all the time sings bunch of songs he's basically velcroed to me when I'm,home great cockatiels are great companions
Yey another vid , i just got a lovebird but he isnt hand raised im traineng her to let her know that bitting is not okay , also i have a coxkatiel that is a caroline named kiwi that was handraised ! smaller birds love to run a lot well fly! my cockatiel screams like a macaw ,macaw style and says his name kiwi
I’m pretty young and have 2 dogs and a cat. I was told if I buy everything I’m allowed to get cockatiels. I asked my mom for 2 males we are planning on getting them in summer. 1. Estimate price 2. Do they need regular appointments if so how often 3. What are the basic knowledge and supplies
Honestly I'd say that you probably shouldnt get a bird. They are great but it comes with a huge amount of responsibility and giving away a bird if you cant keep up with it is looked down on. They can last decades and are expensive. Medical bills can cost a lot and they are super fragile. They need a lot of knowledge and attention and you shouldn't try and rely on just CZcams. I'm not trying to say they are bad pets im just saying that with a bunch of large pets already and their prices it might not be the time to get 2 highly intelligent birds.
Louis yes i figured but my mom has a bunch of birds including cockatiels that she said she’d help me with. and i’ve done a bit of looking and i’ve found quite a bit of stuff including care, food types, and that they are social birds (hence the reason i am getting two) i’ve seen stuff that says if you won’t have time to be there for a long time with them every day then they recommend getting a second bird. if i didn’t think i could do it i wouldn’t be searching on the internet about cockatiel care. i am truly interested in taking care of a bird. they would stay with me for as long as they’d live and i’ve looked at cages. those cages that i’ve seen didn’t seem nearly big enough so i’m planning on getting a cheap but large cage for them off of amazon. and no i’m not relying on just youtube. i’ve contacted people i know that have had birds in the past and it has helped quite a bit on what to look for when it comes to sickness and injuries.
I cant really help as far as questions, just was wondering how research is going? I really want a female cockatiel. But I have 5 cats (more on the way) 2 dogs, an elderly rat, an elderly mouse (abt 2.5 y/o) and 2 fish. So my mom isnt to thrilled about getting any more animals. But maybe in the future :)
I’m watching 5 best things of having a cockatiel and smiling that I’ll choose a cockatiel over conures and budgies, then saw 5 worst things about owning a cockatiel in my recommendation :,)
I had cockatiels as a child. Only one of them was cuddly the other was a bit more aggressive but did let me handle him. The cuddly one even let me swaddle him and hold him like a baby. And he was always cuddled close to my chest. I named him Polly because guess what my favorite movie as a child was ?? Paulie 😂
Just know, when you get a Cockatiel, you will have a pal forever and in my case, she runs my life. Very much like a dog would do, play time, watching TV together, and where I go in the house, she also wants to go........or go find me. 😉
Yep they are great fun , and they can mime , my dad used to hear what he thought was the phone ringing , turned out to be the bird miming the phone , I'd be doing tug of war with it of course I did not let it win as a result it would fall off the table , it once stuck its head in my mouth picking my teeth ( great fun ) it used to love the light on the ceiling a little too much , we used to wonder why we had to change so many bulbs on it , they must of had something to do with it , barely changed any since they died , that was back in the ninties never had one since .
I’m a little bit afraid because I really do want a cockatiel but the thing is they can have a long life span, and I’m in the 8th grade so it won’t be long till I’m off to college. I’m not just gonna leave the bird with my mom either, she even said she’s scared of cockatiels and rather me get another parakeet. She does know how to care for a bird of course, like cleaning the cage, and changing the food and water, she has lived with birds twice. But she’s not the type to play with them 24/7. I’m not sure if I should get a bird right now... or wait. I can’t really imagine the next 4+ years of my life without a bird though...
A tame cockatiel is a very needy bird. If I’m home my bird shouts incessantly until I let him out with me. Then he’s like Velcro bird. You have to love them a lot to put up with it. Mine is going on 17 years and as annoying as it can be at times, losing him will crush me.
Watching this makes me miss how my cockatiel used to be 😩 She was so cuddly and would always bow her head down for us to pet her, like literally all the time lol, and then we had to give her to my grandma because we moved into an apartment that didn't allow birds. After our year lease was up we found an apartment that actually allowed birds finally and we got our baby bird back but she just doesn't like to be pet like she used to. I'm guessing they didn't really have her out much so maybe she grew out of it or something but I miss it so much 😭 Any tips on getting a cockatiel to get that trait back is welcomed!
Yeah I have a budgie and we talk a lot and hes on my hand all the time but won’t let me pet him and it gets frustrating sometimes but now I’ve just accepted it and recently I’ve been looking into a cockatiel and I just wanna be able to let him and chill and have a little buddy like my budgie but I’m just curious if cockatiels are good
I never had a bird before so it scared me when he followed me around sit on my chest walk all over me it's my son's bird if you open the door as long as I am up he will not go to the door or anywhere else but to me that's scary but thanks for your info you have enlightened me keep up the great lessons thanks

Yes they are great companions
Cockatiels are very nice pets.
Oh yes the dog comment haha. My cockatiel will follow my heels to wherever I go, god forbid I get out of her sight. They are such little cuties ❤️
I waited for this!! Thank you❤️
Hi,
I would like to get a cockatiel but I was wondering if it would be better to get a female or male because I already have a male budgie.
I'm getting a male cuz females lay eggs also males r more vocal
I think males because theyre easier to educate and only male cocktails can speak
The females are messy lay a lot of eggs it takes away from their lifespan but they're more affectionate
Lol
so well said thanks for the tips
28 dislikes vs 2.4k likes! Wow! Cockatiels must be truly wonderful! ❤️
Everything what has been said is correct.
I had a lovely cockatiel for over 23 years.
My cockatiel loves cuddle and kisses, he’s sooooo sweet! And clingy😅 but i love him soooo much!🥺❤️
Cockatiels are just so adorable, lovely and their are my cutie pie😊
Another awesome & informative video! :D My first cockatiel Mel was a really good talker. My current one Gilbee doesn't talk at all. He just sings & whistles & that's okay too! :D It's true they're cuddle-bugs, but I think getting them at young age helps with that. :D
Cockatiels really are the best. I had a Pearl cockatiel… he was so affectionate and loved us so much, so did we and he became a part of our family! The only thing that helps me get my mind off his death is other cockatiel videos and the fact that we’re getting another one.. he died last month and I can’t take all this pain….
My cockatiel spanky would go nuts when he'd hear my truck pull up to the house. He was my flying puppy thats for sure. Loved him
You're absolutely right they're affectionate!!! Adorable! and have the sweetest of temperaments among the parrots! I love parrots. They're beautiful, zany and loaded with personality! 🦜💛🎨💛🦜
Yes I agree these birds are amazing, I have two males Zion and Peter.💗
Cockatiels are fun.
Omg thanks for the advices, I'm so proud of my cockateil.
They are playfull and loving like many other pets
And dear me are they stubborn haha
I'd like to add another benefit to owning a cockatiel. I chose to get a cockatiel because they sound the nicest. I might have got a conure but the sound was jarring for me.
Best creatures on the planet.
Thank you for the Pros and Cons of owning a Cockatiel - We have a had raised named Whitecap (All white except cheeks) - Great information on why they itch and how to Spray them for comfort - God bless you, your`s and birds
I missed your video when it came out but I love this video and pearl is so adorable and amazing
Derpicuno - Good luck! 😊
Same its hard but making progress is really rewarding to see
Thank you guys!
amazing video keep it up
I have a 5 and a half weeks old baby cockatiel she is adorable
My bird sitter had two tiels that were 33 and 34 years old. My female passed away a year ago. 4 months ago I got a male who is now a year old. Much more active and finally is over his fear of my hands to some extent. Won't let me scritch his head yet but he comes to visit me numerous times now then goes off to play whereas my female used to just like to be on me all the time cuddling
I love your vids keep up
I think Pearl is the sweetest natured cockatiel I've ever seen...you really scored!
As a child we had 4 birds in our house. A Cockatiel, Budgie, and 2 Canaries all of which were very tame. Having them all out at once was hilarious!
Nana tells me if I want to bird I have to know everything about 1 and I do now because thanks to you thank you you helped me and thank you for telling me now I can get a bird I love Cockatiels and they're not just Birds they're also your best friends and family members
i have 1 budgie and 1 new one and vids also ur cockatiel is so cool ive always wanted one but then i got budgies and i like my budgies a lot
The non hand raised ones are a bit difficult to train, especially if they are old. So before getting a bird, make sure you ready to take care of them. A lot of birds end up for adoption because the owners found they couldn't handle daily care routine or that their bird is being difficult.
All you gave do do is feed it give it drink and clean its cage occasionally.
Every relationship takes time. Birds are individuals. Some need more time than others to socialize.
All true. 😊
I definitely resonate with what you said about your parakeet pillow! My Luna and Saturn just have a party once I let them out the cage 🤣 I’m talking flying all over and chirping like crazy 🤣 but it’s so cute 💛💛
I love my Tiels!
They are adorable💕
I have a cockateil boy and i named him after your budgie, pillow
Awww I’ve wanted to see this because I’m trying to figure out more about cockatiel
Such lovely birds.
1. Estimate price
2. Do they need regular appointments if so how often
🥰 so cute
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW CUTENESS OVERLODE!!!!
I have a Cockatiel and she is very lovely 😊! I love her and she loves me!
Omg pearl is adorable
I’m watching 5 best things of having a cockatiel and smiling that I’ll choose a cockatiel over conures and budgies, then saw 5 worst things about owning a cockatiel in my recommendation :,)
Its all on prefrence. Conure like to explore a bit more along with budgies from what I know.
thats good tips
This is a wonderful channel 👍.
Paulie 😂
What do You think is better for a beginer parakeet or cockatiel
Just know, when you get a Cockatiel, you will have a pal forever and in my case, she runs my life.
Very much like a dog would do, play time, watching TV together, and where I go in the house, she also wants to go........or go find me. 😉
Yep they are great fun , and they can mime , my dad used to hear what he thought was the phone ringing , turned out to be the bird miming the phone , I'd be doing tug of war with it of course I did not let it win as a result it would fall off the table , it once stuck its head in my mouth picking my teeth ( great fun ) it used to love the light on the ceiling a little too much , we used to wonder why we had to change so many bulbs on it , they must of had something to do with it , barely changed any since they died , that was back in the ninties never had one since .
cockatiel are great! my cockatiel was my best friend...he sadly passed away a few days ago...i hope my Venus is doing good in heaven..RIP Venus..
Omg yes! I went to this Chinese pet shop and I got to play with birds but cockatiels were the best to handle with! Though they’re to expensive
Candy Lian find a local breeder near you. Or adopt. Much cheaper to get from a breeder.
I have same train cocktail
Love you from India
Im watching this videos in 2024. Thanks for the info
BTW your birds are adorable and thanks for all these tips you share.
Maybe try to do the same thing you did when you just got her=spend more time with her?
I love cockatiels
