  • The Secret Strategy Of The Pros
    Special thanks to Iain Highfield of Game Like Training Golf for joining me in this video to teach us his Eliminator Practice Game - which you can do on the course or on the range. It's the same strategy the pro golfers use to train in excellent ball control and lower scores.

    Thank you for the inclusion of your penalty shots. Listening to your preshot self talk and the time spent walking to the pyramid for another ball is a great model for how the game should be played. This manner of practice has so much more relevance than immediately scraping another ball over and firing away without any reset.
    This video also illustrates the effectiveness of when to release the left brain and engage the right brain in creating shot shape. Most enjoyable and enlightening!
    Thank you again,
    Mike D

    interesting video. But if you have a dominant flight (say a fade) - wouldn't you always be aiming LEFT of the target as long as it isn't trouble?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey man!
      All else equal I would AIM....wherever you need to aim....so that....the ball lands in the middle of the green for most scenarios.
      For low handicap players I would do this 100 yards and out
      High handicap players 50 yards and out
      scratch players probably 150 and out
      So if you fade the ball 8 yards on average I would aim 8 yards left of the center of the green ALL THE TIME.
      Then of course you need to factor in wind, trouble, etc next.

      Of course, everything in golf is relative to your skill level, that’s what makes it interesting and challenging game.
      Keep working to hit the ball with a more predictable direction and distance. As those skill improve, strategy then begins to become a important variable in golf.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 4 lety

      Savvy....you want to build in a ONE WAY curve where you can miss on ONE side.
      Everyone can built to that.
      Even if thats a ball that slices 20 yards every time and misses to the right every time.
      then just work to minimize the curve to 10, 5, etc over time.
      I can teach ANYONE to do that who's willing to work.

    re : the 2 stroke penalty method.
    there was no mention of a 2 stroke penalty for leaving a putt short.
    the lesson of this exercise should be self explanatory.

      That’s not the game, did you listen? It’s about missing in the right areas, nothing to do with putting.

    • @mixter7x7
      @mixter7x7 Před 4 lety

      @@chrisdixon2843 yes- i did hear the game. yes - i completely understand the teaching method. that's exactly why i mentioned it. because it didn't include putting. 2 putt on every hole = add 18 strokes. leave 18 putts short = add 18 strokes. my point is making ALL putts go past ( or in ) the hole. you cannot sink a putt you leave short. if you're going to miss a putt - miss left - right or long - not short. that was my point.

    • @chrisdixon2843
      @chrisdixon2843 Před 4 lety

      @@mixter7x7 That was infinitely more helpful and less pompous than your first comment and would actually be a very good addition to the game. Although, that said, I think most people try to get it to the hole or past it in putting whereas what they are getting is amateurs struggle to switch off from pin hunting and don't miss in the right places so it's about a mindset change from "hit the flag" to "where can I afford to miss" which again doesn't really correlate to putting where everybody is trying to get the ball to the hole. I don't know anyone who tries to be short.

    • @mixter7x7
      @mixter7x7 Před 4 lety

      @@chrisdixon2843 my less pompous - long version comment was pompously covered as " should be self explanatory " golf is a game of " the least - worst errors " that again should be self explanatory. water left - sand right= err right. that simply sums up this entire lesson. don't forget " golf " is a four letter word.

  • @TheSimpleGame

    So what is the penalty for missing?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 4 lety

      For the on course in the video it says 2 shot penalty.
      For the range practice you can structure it really however you want! Make sure the difficulty is appropriate for your ability level!
