Begin the Beguine. It began and never ended. One of the longest productions in DCI history. Freakin’ love it. Those Dutch Boy shows from that era were so entertaining.
Wow, this feels like an eternity ago. Someone posted this on my facebook page, just wanted to say thank you, and I'm honored to be part of this list. Steve Dakin
Hey, thanks for putting that together. You put me in some pretty great company! We were on tour with Madison and Spirit all summer in 1983, and I always enjoyed hearing Hunter and Shaun play. Long Live Suncoast!
Hey. I’m in this. Hi Ira - I always thought your hair was a choice. Anyway - Trivia. Who was the first sop to take his hat off in a solo? Fred Bell? Metzger maybe?
Also great to see my buddy Roger DeLosa on here Soloist for Freelacers 88' and 89'... I will alway Remember him fondly and some day we will see him again. R.I.P. buddy!
Alright. Always love your channel. My school is pretty old school corps style, carried mallets, mylar drum heads, standstill numbers. Wish our playing was as good though... :$
spinster21 - regardless of how old I looked, I assure you that I was 21. As a matter of fact, I had just turned 21 in late July so I was only two weeks away from having another year to march. I've never heard the comparison to Terry Bradshaw before but looking at the video, I suppose it is fair.
@@iraarenson6829 I just mentioned on another thread above that you're in two clips (just not solo) ;-) Ah those arpeggio octaves at rehearsals at the train station! I can't recall which clip @spinster21 was in... ;-)

Man I love this video... Did anyone notice that guy in Madison was already bald... This is back when age out was 21. Poor guy... But Great chops hmmmm.
His name is Ira Arenson. Funny enough, he marched in the 1st clip with Guardsmen and then soloed with Madison. I was fortune enough to have him as a mentor for my solo the follow year. He has a disease (can't recall it right now) which made him bald. Excellent player and man!
@@faredunferrari It's Kansas City...and all the clips are of finals, so that makes it 88 or 89....the music is from Star Wars (Yoda's theme, I think), so that makes it prelims in 88, since the 89 music was from E.T. and Empire of the Sun.
All great memories. Would have been great to see representatives from the 1983 Geneseo Knights, or even Daniel (Dan) Moore from 1985 GK "Jesus Christ Superstar" show.
ahh,no mellos are not called altos. They are called mellophones because that's what they are. There are alto horns which are similar in design but with a smaller bell and they are called altos.

Thanks for watching Steve. 89 Dutch Boy was a great show. I still enjoy listening to it.
Stephen Dakin Steve, they both were good.
Me 2! I just saw this for the first time. Funny, I grew up listening to all of these players...and then there we are....wtf!
Man those G horns just sound so great.

The feeling is mutual Jack. Suncoast had a great hornline, and you guys were the icing on the cake!
I would love to get a Saprano horn. I loved playing it
les stentores is getting rid of their horns if you're interested, im gonna see if i can get a king k20 from them
1983 Sky Ryders First Soloist with Sunglasses Paul (P.J). Hunter and to his right Tim Wells

The Soloist for Suncoast Sound 1983, is not John Keegan, it's John Aguano. I marched with Him that Year, also from School in fort Lauderdale.
HE's the taller o the two. A 15/16
year old at that time.
Guardsmen tenor line was rockin behind the soloist 0:10
Sone god choices here Ben but you obviously had an oversight on serval viable Crossmen soloist from that era.
Devils 86'- Mike Collins??? one of my favorite soloists!
The Bearded Wonder!
Do you know where i can find the sky raiders 83 clip. My school band played pretty much that arrangement, down to the same solo.
Dominic O'Korn not sure. I got that clip off of my Legacy DVD.

This is when Drum Corps were ACTUALLY DRUM CORPS and not some broadway-ballet-dancing-fruit-affair.
