I've said this before: You have changed my approach and mechanics for the better and I play senior slowpitch softball! The helicopter drill unlocked the door in my mind. It showed me where the real power exists. Your teaching directly applies to both hard and softball play. Senior Softball is a untapped gold mine. I'd be privileged to rep that out as a revenue source - I'll pay for my training. You've made it fun again to play the game we love. Thanks Rich.
Thank you Richard. Good "no stride" video showing the hip coil was good to see.
Thanks so much @teacherman. I play softball once a year in a charity tournament and this year, a week before the tournament, I discovered your channel. I practiced in the garage and backyard before the tournament and really wasn’t sure if it would work for me. Well, my first at bat convinced me that you were a genius; Line drive to right field. In fact, I went 12 for 13 at the plate over the weekend. Many of the hits were line drives down the right field line and some made it to the warning track. Thanks so much. Maybe you could add a Teacherman “throwing “ channel next?
Don't worry about plate discipline, recognizing pitches, hand eye coordination, timing..... Just snap your wrists in this goofy way that isn't a part of any MLBers swing.
This helped me out a lot because I always felt like a stride wasn’t for me and now I have no stride and it feels so much better
Thank you for the video!
Teacherman, i am a sr in high school and I work out a lot and am above average strength. What workouts should I include to increase my supenation explosiveness and flexibility for the swing?
Otani is no stride.
I'm sold.
Thanks, coach.
Ohtani DOES stride! He just does it EARLY.
He does a small stride, then really moves his hips the way a golfer does
Ever do Pro Bono TeacherMan Hitting? 😂 I appreciate everything you put out for free! It’s grown my son exponentially!
1:22 is my favorite part. Ready in Position to swing.
I put a high tee behind the back leg to prevent the “lifting of the bat” and promote immediate supination. Doesn’t work great with youth players first learning, but olde players can swing fully and get immediate feedback
Do not use these mechanics. If you want short career
Mookie Betts doesn’t really seem to do this. He doesn’t really snap the barrel like you say to do.
Hello Coach....im a slow pitch softball player...I've seen some of your videos...can I apply your teachings into a slow pitch softball swing?
How do you get a lesson with him
Teacher Man, i have an 11 yr old almost 12, that I have been sharing you content with. He’s been improving each day. I’d like to have him use your double sided flat bat. Where can I purchase one , and what size do u recommend if he swings a 31/-8? Thank you !
Do you still review swings? And if you do could you review my swing
Not the stride per se, but the weight shift of the Center of Mass, around the belt buckle. Ohtani has a very strong Weight Shift. And the weight shift is a source of power. Power = weight shift / time.
I have a question, when I try to hit faster balls I always make contact with the part of the bat taper, What should I do to correct that? 😅
Do these mechanics transfer to Fastpitch softball the same way? The ball path is in an upward movement compared to downward. Does that make a difffenece to mechanics?
What do you think of Griffey Jr’s swing (my favorite swing)? Does he have that first move you talk about? (I can’t tell…I keep trying to notice…🤷🏽♂️)
hey teacherman i am still trying to figure out the stretch are there any videos that can help me feel the stretch because i try to stay back as i go forward and i can feel it in my stomach for some reason and kind of in my lower back i don’t know what i am doing wrong
is any vision or eye sight work worth anything Sir? Much Respect
A hitting also needs to have timing. You are teaching a way to generate power
How much do you charge for lessons?
Is your facility still in Arizona?
Bobby Murcer was a no strider
Yo, this que is essential for the swing you teach, Teach - especially in regards to your lower body mechanics and style of stride. If a player has a long stride like the Mick, Clemente, Ruth, Schmidt - then the look of option 2 is more appropriate. The game has obviously moved on from the long striders - Trout, your boy Aa. Have made this obvious.
*cue
I also feel like i’m not overotating
How do you get to the outside pitch
You wait on the ball, let the ball travel deeper into the zone to hit the outside pitch.
Can I use this for slow pitch softball?
Yes, I played for the first time in 20 years so that I could learn the technique enough to teach it.
It's the best thing I've done for my swing in 15 years of playing. I'm not hitting bombs, but more hits and extra base hits at that. Good luck.
Thank you so much for this content for free, I’m a 6ft 14year old and just hit the furthest ball i hit for sure, I was mad at this team beating us 7-1 and the team talking shit so I swung as hard as I could and hit it out of the stadium 390+. The craziest stuff I’ve done
Is there affiliated coaches..looking to send my kids to someone that knows this hitting technique?
it’s not a good technique and you can save money by reading the art of hitting and the science of hitting and it’ll help you a lot
@@tyberger9452 it is a good technique. He isn't saying anything different then Miguel Cabrera said in his interviews after winning triple crown, and if you follow Matt Antanelli he also talks about the Supination of the wrist. Miguel Cabrera called it his palm up technique here : czcams.com/video/xJw_mtuDySo/video.html
I also uses to train with some friends who's parents were coaches at baseball academies in the Dominican Republic and they all teach Palm Up. Which basically means you snap your wrist to get palm up when you swing.
Anybody that has success does not hit like this
Your wrong batting averages drop and u see a lot of pop ups horrible
Keeping your right side tucked in you will never get to a 90 mph plus outside corner fastball
why would you wanna get to that
@@Nate-su2wz so u can hit it
@@Nate-su2wzMaybe, and just hear me out, because it's a strike and the idea is to hit strikes 🤷🏽
You get to the outside by waiting on the pitch to travel deeper. It's the same swing inside, up the middle, and outside, only thing that differs is when you you swing.
So, no elbow up?
And no watching the ball all the way through
you can start elbow up.... but every great hitter brings the elbow down to the hip when launching the swing. It sounds and looks weird because he leaves out the part where almost everyone starts with the elbow up.
I really think he intentionally leaves out info so you buy his merchandise. He's right, but he makes hitting more complicated than it should be. The easier way to teach this is tell the batter to chop down with the hands from the shoulder to the contact zone. Throw the knob at the ball. That accomplished the same wrist motion without the extra movement. (Chopping down is real feel v what you're actually doing. Just bring your hand from the shoulder to the hitting zone)
@@jonathantravan1220lling kids to chop down will ruin their swing. Same with “throwing the knob at the ball. You’ll just end up with a highschool swing.
And he’s not making it more complicated. When he gets to teaching kids, he’s not doing all this physics stuff; he just gives them drills and they start hitting bombs.
@@mike-0451then why does Albert Pujols, tony gwynn, ted williams, freddie freeman all say throw you knob to the ball
How does someone stride and be a no strider? 🤦🏾♂️
Like teacher man said, Shohei Ohtani strides but then halfway he stops the motion.
@@Tarnished- Then he’s a strider. He’s not a momentum hitter. But, he is a strider.
@@kaizersozzay9259 to be a strider you need to do a full stride. If you don’t then it’s just counted as part of the load
A hitter need to have arms extended
What's easiest way to teach this witha. 9 yr old
Just show him/her the videos and then practice often. I did the same thing with my 9-year-old brother and now he is consistently hitting the ball to the fence, and he just hit his first home run. I also recommend getting a Beteyah set. It is a surprisingly good training tool for helping kids stay on their back leg, and it is also a really fun game.
Probably the most helpful drill for kids is just to toss them wiffle balls while they swing on their back leg only for the whole swing. Coil and everything.
If you search his videos he has a whole sequential series on teaching kids.
Just tell em to throw their hands at the ball. That's what i did with my kid and all the kids I've coached over the years. Tony Gwynn's methodology. Take the knob to the ball, and the barrel will follow.
@@jonathantravan1220that’s a good way to the ball on the ground (and be thrown out at first base)
Paul Goldschmidt is one of the strongest guys in the MLB. Dummy
And why in the hell do you think that matters.
it’s crazy how this man brainwashed all of y’all to thinking this is a actually a good swing look at tony gwynn and ted williams thoose are good swing in tony gwynn book and ted williams they talk to highly in there swing and how it gets them really far but if y’all want to listen to this guy who has a person like aaron judge come in that doesn’t need lesson to hit nukes and is 6 8 vs tony gwynn and ted williams that are the average person height that are better then judge and in the hof vs a swing that will only make you strike out a lot more
Moron😂😂
Ted Williams also did said about hitting coaches “Don’t ever let them change you”. If it works for you it works for you, if not then move on. I personally don’t always snap my hands, it’s helped me when I’m late to a pitch of need to foul a ball off. But a technique that he used that has worked wonders for me in implementing his load/stride mechanics. I like Gwynn’s idea of guiding the knob, not the barrel. I personally value contact and getting on base more than just hitting for power.
👍
@VictorReyes-rc9xp my kid goes to an ex pro ball player for coach and he preaches throwing the knob at the ball and the barrel will follow. Played in the same era as Gwynn.
@@jonathantravan1220 yessir, coming from San Diego there’s a few hitting coaches who learned a lot first hand from Gwynn. I mostly take the teacherman approach when I play slowpitch softball with my buddies.
I totally disagree with this teaching method
That’s great that you have your own opinion
Fair. Try out the swing tho you might change your mind
i agree why would you listen to this dude when you have every hof ever that says the total opposite like he doesn’t believe in knob to bell when Albert Pujols tony gwynn and ted williams preach it
It's like a batting cult. Nobody swings the way this guy demonstrates. They see what they want to see.
Stop teaching wrong fundamentals
