- www.ted.com Artist Raghava KK demos his new children's book for iPad with a fun feature: when you shake it, the story -- and your perspective -- changes. In this charming short talk, he invites all of us to shake up our perspective a little bit.
TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at www.ted.com/translate.
@raghavakk thank you.. seeing things from multiple perspectives, is a very important ability, only few have nowadays.
I agree, that you cannot start early enough to teach that.
i'm not really a person that likes art but teaching perspective without bias through art seems one of the most beautiful ideas in this world
Whoa. I always think to be prepared for the awesomeness of TED talks, but they always, always surprise me. Raghava, your talk was brilliant, your argument very insightful and your art beautiful. Thank you for sharing!
One of the best I've seen in Ted.... very impressed
thank you for using your creativity for such use, hopefully it will open up the minds of some of the next generation.
Perspectives AND worldviews are absolutely critical in understanding who you even are. If you can't answer "Who am I?" you're in trouble.
Awesome TED talk. Starts as an artists talk, and then brings a powerful universal message. Lets shake some stories!
Fascinating, inspiring, brilliant! Thank you for doing what you do... finding newer, more innovative and fun ways of making this world a better place!
the finishing line is wonderful!
Thank you for the presentation!
@rackslap I don't have the same issue with the outro and intro, seems about the same volume as the talks
i've always thought highly of the significance of perspectives.
Thanks a lot to Raghav KK.
i love this talk a lot, his ideas are really good and i lyk the upbeat vibe of his talk-x
He's absolutely right. Psychedelics can also offer new and enlightening perspectives.
Any idea about the artwork at 1:42 ? I'd love to find it if anyone knows the name?
wow that was to the point and really amazing!!! thanks for sharing this with us!
so happy to see Raghava back at TED
Awesome! grateful for all you are and all you do,Raghava =) Keep shining!
@Kongolox It is a matter of maturity that tells between viewing other religions as counter-forces to yours or as another equally good way of life....
I wish I had more perspective growing up, maybe I'd find empathy easier then. Loved the video and art. :)
@raghavakk
Fascinating talk!
Thank you very much and all the best wishes from Germany!
I would almost buy an ipad just so our child could read this guys books...
I would have nightmares with an art like that. The draws scares the shit out of me.
BRILLIANT... there is NOTHING more important than the lesson of perspectives...
@Aron Thang lolll ikr?
I like this. Thanks, Raghava KK and TED.
AWESOME!!! This was truly the best!
This guy is a lovely fellow
This guy must be an awesome dad
watching him claiming to be an artist right after watching the Kate Hartman talk(where she claims to be a 'technologist') was refreshing. I didn't dislike her ideas, but I was amazed at the questions she was trying to raise and how she didn't come up with more relatable solutions... maybe she just needs some human perspective.
@Kongolox that's called communal harmony, as opposed to religious conversion or submission... religion is something that unites people and gives them a reason to celebrate together during joyous times, stand together during crisis.... religion is a way of life that you choose to follow and need not be the same one that your you inherit through ancestors...
Intro music isn't even loud anymore, you guys need to turn your volume down.
Latest art project! it is a book on the ipad... Skipped!
@Kongolox You can feel the difference only in India.... And the good reasons that you ask for are friendship and mutual respect...
@raghavakk That was wonderful! Also: Inspiring, Ingenious, and Funny. Will you be speaking at any other conferences in the near future?
Thank you all for the fabulous support! It means a lot to me. I work in isolation and for my idea to have so many resonating souls means the world to me. Please spread the message of perspectives and empathy. Tell YOUR story too! I also really appreciate the constructive criticism/feedback. I am reading and listening to all your views. Thank you once again. Warmly, Raghava KK
wonderful inspiring ...so right
Wonderful.
Thank you for your work, Raghava. If we all did what we believe is right to ourselves, others, and our planet, the world could change overnight! everyday there is more and more of us, we will make it! take the streets on October 15th, the world revolution for consciousness has started! yaaaay!!
Excellent! Thumbs Way up!
skip first 10 seconds for all TED videos whoever has any complain about loud intro.
@patrickcorliss
I have the exact same feeling about it. Can't find enough of inspiring stuff on the internet. What things did you come across lately?
…I found "lytro" or "yellowbird" and can't wait to use it one day.
What a great idea for a children´s book ! Thanks for your creativity,
I will share this video, warm regards, Alice :)
I wonder if we all could shake ourselves what kind of world we'd have
@patrickcorliss thanks for letting me know
Well, this was unexpectedly brilliant.
I think it's great and hope you can implement it well without your own bias. I'm not sure how children will deal with confronting political problems. I hope this can be done in a fun, multi-perspective unbias way. The key here is not necessarily understanding of all the sides fully but giving a fun insight into thinking broadly.
This will only be useful for parents who want their child to be broad minded, if they talk to their parents about ideas presented, parents will place their own bias.
This is the right way
What an amazing idea.. teach em perspectives. got it. =)
He makes sense.
@rackslap they don't read the comments dude
@rackslap dude, you can always skip those parts, you know >.< just watch the videos
@raghavakk Great idea, Raghava! I agree with you about multiple perspectives. That's how one can think and become more comprehensive and tolerant. And I must say your illustrations are beautiful! :)
This is amazing
@rackslap If that part of the video is loud enough to damage your ears, the rest is too. Turn it down yourself..
Interesting idea.
A good school assignment would be for students to write essays from the points of view of *each* side to a conflict/war/disagreement/debate.
Is this the reason why Barney's song has subliminal lyrics??
i dn't see anything wrong with him! i think he's amazing people are just egotistic! he's speaking the truth!
lol I love this guy!!!
well done!
seems like a really cool guy. With a cool story :D
Ted is run by smart people. They know the intro is louder than usual.
It causes the 'ah ha' moment making viewers more alert for the video.
I too complained, but somewhere after 400 hundred videos you should be able to expect it..
wonderfull !
Hi Raghava, Thank You for your efforts! You may Google "Empathy: The Brand Equity of Retail" for the HBS Working Knowledge article which might be of value to you. I also have a comment on it. Best! Shakti Saran
@satyu131089 i did not say that! or even imply to "counter-force"... i simply think that the follower of a religion shouldnt particpate others religion "activities" (or whatever u like to name it) for no good reason...
@AlphaCentauri24
You actually missed the point of this video. It's still good! you didn't fake it.
@Kongolox Ha ha! Why follow? Let's be proud of our identity AND our empathy.
@elkapalkaproduction there's also no need to feed them lies or like he said, biased perspectives...i think it requires a certain balance. i would guess that children who know about the real world and different perspectives would grow up to be more open with the world, and isn't that a good thing?
@satyu131089 i understand learning and respect your friends religion IS a good thing, but it doesnt mean to do/share their religious activity..! i guess it ok to share the joy when the celebrate their religious events, but thats about it.
@MrKennyloveslife What you say is both right and good and needs to be heard. But you asked for thumbs up, so none from me, sorry :)
woow, smart
hooray for everything!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeeeeeeeeeeah!
did you watch bast 30 seconds?
past*
his message was solid, how he got there....not so much
@patrickcorliss
Finally got the chance to see you stuff. Really nice. Thanks for that!!
here's some stuff I came across lately:
A bunch of nice optical illusions by "brusspup" (CZcams).
User "poietic" (vimeo) has some beautiful ideas.
Video "12825278" and "25076865" (also vimeo).
The channel "newwaysofinteraction" (vimeo) gathered some nice innovations on technology...
A little older but still like it: Cinnamon Chasers - Luv Deluxe (Music Video)
That's it for now. Hope you like it.
very nice, the drawings can be a little creepy though :P
great :-)
Smart. Brilliant. We all need to have two year olds running around with iPads. Because that thick pop-up book, that if falls won't break, isn't good enough for a dumb ass 2 year old child. We need them to use iPads. Brilliant.
inspiring, i guess the negative comments come from people who don't want peace and understanding between cultures. who's that huh?
omfg the intro... so loud :C
@satyu131089 i do have idea about india religious diversities, but a religion addopting another? well idont know about that.. and it doesnt sound for any religion. :)
As a producer of children's mobile content and a parent myself, I am very unimpressed by the quality of his art and the message in his art itself.
Who says that children art should reflect reality? Why would you want to feed your kids the same thing you see on the news? They will get there soon enough, no need to hurry them along....
me and my friends always joke about each others race! we say be racist equally, i'm asain in a white community and have multicultural friends (CANADA WOOT) and we joke about each others race all the time INCLUDING our own, we love each other do death!
THUMBS UP!?
@montazarmontazarmont Nope.
"i promise to bias my child with multiple perspectives"
Or we could get rid of bias all together, and join together in a single perspective of logical rationality, devoid of the idiot mindset that magical gods and immortal ephemeral beings watch over us and control our lives. I guarantee that when people no longer believe in illogical dogmatic concepts of divine providence and sacred properties that we might have a world at peace, only growing stronger, together.
@elkapalkaproduction so theyre not similair to the masses of children and young adults that know near 0 about serious world issues and can formulate a opinion with depth rather then propogandized and singular point of views.
@Kongolox you probably have no idea of how rich religious diversity can be... I suggest you come visit India some time.... The goodness of every religion is appreciated and adopted by other religions.... I'm sure you need to have a look... If your channel gives your location right, I bet you'd have no idea....
Claytronics
Fund it.
The intro... Turn it down.
That is all.
lol
:)
I'm unable to follow the artistic style in the book.
vedding lol
@plaubel28 Hater.
Wha? What was this about?
A bit much..
this guy doesn't have identity.. one must be proud of his/her religion/idealism and NOT follow other's aimlessly or carelessly.
troubled scary ilustrations made by this guy really show that he was trough unstable times as a child. Now he want to promote homosexual mariages and raising children. GOOD WAY BRO!
