- A cool conversation with Brian Jonestown Massacre's main man, Anton Newcombe in celebration of the new music release "Fire Doesn't Grow on Trees". We talk about... Recovering stolen equipment, Covid on the road, Life in Berlin Germany, Crazy Rick James stories, and more surprises.
AN is a truly gifted songwriter.
The reflection of the computer in his sunglasses makes him look like he has got google eyes.
Exciting to hear about a b side, going to check out "where do we go from here" good interview man 👍
This is a great conversational interview. A great time capsule of music history and a very specific POV towards music, other musicians, sound, and acts of charity. His own discipline is aspirational.
What makes this interview great is that Anton's thoughts just pour out
The Roadrunner show outside Boston was A fucking mazing!!! This group of artists you brought with you were the best I've seen in some time. It felt like I knew them after listening to your works in progress. New album is a great display of your capabilities. Ineffable mind fuck is a friggin earworm!!! Thank you, thank you, and thank you.
TALENT right there...
Great watch.
I love you Anton.
Hey Anton I was there for that bottom of the hill show ! Can’t even believe you brought that show up ! ❤
This is killer, Jay. Thank you !!!
I really like the message I received from Anton sharing about just giving a little of yourself or whatever you have to give to make someone's day. Thank you for the inspiration Anton and for the interview Jay! ♡
The word Mr. Anton Alfred Newcombe was searching for to describe getting involved in a community of people interested in helping others is ethos. Great interview. Keep it up, I'm on your team now. Peace.
saw and met him in NC last spring when he finally toured south US -- what a treat. He gives up the ghosts....
Always sage advice from Anton. Separation .
great interview. anton is inspirational
lol... I like anton derailing the interview and spoiling all of Jay's questions he couldn't get to....

BRILLIANT 💕💕 🎼
Cool de voir Jason.
Un nouvel album ?
Would love to meet this talent icon
I saw BJM in Dallas back in April. I'd love to ask Anton about certain songs, how he writes lyrics in particular. His lyricism is amazing. Also how he puts a set together. What to include and what not. They still do Anemone and P I S H. Such a fascinating dude.
I love those 2 songs
Awesome conversation! Anton is on some shit. Smart dude.
Lol classic 'Ton. His "Dance Hall Days" have just begun .... ...... ... im waiting him to bust out some Sussudio type shit for a Netfix movie
Give an inch. Steal a bike. I love AN.
Awwww 🖤
Graphite Guitar Systems, the luthiers for bands like the red hot chili peppers all the down the line to The Grateful Dead, want to present Anton Newcombe a Guitar, Or Bass, Or any stringed instrument really, custom with the Original "dancing ladied" Graphite neck. We love your sound Anton and would be honored. Anywhere in the world too could be in germany!
Did you guys even watch the video? Anton collects vintage Vox and other 60s gear, why would he want to play some pointy sci fi carbon fibre bullshit
Water is still an issue on my first nation
Sorry to hear that 🙏 where do you live ?

Technically what Anton is talking about using the analogy of a "skeleton" to build upon is called a LEAD SHEET. It is usually only the treble clef vocal melody, lyrics and/or instrumental melody but may include bass clef lines too and basic supporting chords. From that the ARRANGEMENT is developed by applying instrument (and vocal) doubling in layers, taking into account the blend of sound, not overly doubling bass, mid range or high range sound except when for effect. This strategy works for arranging pop music with one lead vocal but also applies to larger group formats by either doubling the lead vocal or vocal harmonization in the arrangement. Lead sheets are used a lot in jazz "fake books" where arrangements (small combo) are improvised over just the verse melody, bridge melody and chorus melody with or without basic support chord suggestions.
✌
Morphing into Neil Young
mosh pit at bjm lol
👍
Wow. Great song writer. And racially aware too.
LOL
I love Anton but man he’s tiring and humorless. Poor Katie. 😢
