  • It's been over a year since our Kozyard Gazebo Assembly video and based on the response, questions, comments and connections made, it was time for a 1 year review to discuss how it's held up.
    In this episode we'll talk about how our 12x20 Kozyard Alexander Gazebo has held up over through the last crazy 4 seasons we've had here in Ohio. We have also been told that this gazebo and the Purple Leaf gazebo have the exact same part numbers and can be assembled using the same instructions.
    Tune in to see how our gazebo has done, what our dissatisfiers are, what upgrades we've made to it and whether we'd spend the money again for one of these. Let us know your thoughts and questions as we'll answer every one of them.

    Our gazebo is only an 8x8, but we found that weight helps with the curtains moving. We have 30 bolts on each side for weights. (They are 3/4 inch bolts 4 inches long - about 22 ounces each curtain.) They are inside flexible PVC hose for circumference and held on with Large Hold Back clips. We rolled up the hem to prevent them hitting our deck as they move in the wind. This works well on any wind under 30 mph.

    I just assembled a 12 x 18 gazebo pretty much identical to yours and I purchased TWO $99 (on sale)Harbor Breeze Valdosta 20 inch outdoor fans and hung them on the hooks on the opposite sides. These fans aren't reversible but they do circulate the air quite well. I had an electrician install an outlet at the top of the middle post with a connected power switches on the middle of the post and a regular outlet on the bottom. we keep the fans plugged into the top outlet so that we can turn them on and off conveniently.

      We ended up going with the YITAHOME 10x12 hard top. It took me a couple hours each day for 5 days, inbetween working from home etc. to get it together and I needed a little help from my 13yr old when doing the roof sheets. All the screws had to be loosely fitted before tightening in the end which was a bit of a pain for 2-3 holes but overall was fine in the end. Loved the quality and reviews about dealing with snow and wind. We’ll see how it holds up for winter but in the mean time it looks great.

    Your video is a god send! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge. We are putting up the same unit and your advice is spot on! Can't wait to get it done! We live just outside of Nashville and expect to use it year round. AND our install is very similar to your own....down to the brown brick! We also will have to move it about a foot to put it under the soffit and gutters. Once we get it to where it needs to go, I'll use lag bolts through the deck and into a 2x something for support underneath it all. Now thinking about the gutter situation. This is going under the gutters on our house so the water on our roof will not spill onto the gazebo. Thinking of installing something on the corners to catch and divert the water. Thanks again. Hope to meet you sometime!

      Hi Rayvon. Thank you so much for watching, sharing the kind words and your journey. Thats so cool that your build is similar to ours. We're planning on adding a new gutter portion this year to do the same with run off. Thankfully the gutter on the gazebo has handled most of it. We've thought about adding rain chains for the corners. Maybe something we experiment with this year as well. We were down in Gatlinburg last week and very familiar with the Nashville area as well. Shoot us an email with pics of the final build if you don't mind. We'd love to see it.

      @@SpiritedWrenchers Just came to a halt in our construction! We were going to put up the panels today. We discovered that the clips that hold the edge of the panel in are 1. plastic/vinyl, not metal, and 2. they don't snap onto the panel. They just slide on and slide off just as easily! We were trying to put the 2 end pieces of the upper roof on and we were able to put the panels in but the clips kept coming off! Any suggestions? I know that your clips were metal and a friend of ours who recently put up a 16'
      gazebo had metal clips also. I'm now thinking it's a case of the wrong part? And BTW, ours is a Purple Leaf and not Kozyard but except for the clips all of the parts and design are identical. Thanks.

We wish we could provide some insight into those clips but for the Kozyard, we haven't had any issues with ours. For the power, we have an outlet on the outside of the house right by one of the center beams. We bout an outside water resistant surge protector from Amazon with a 10ft cord. We zip tied the surge block to the roof and ran the cord down the center beam, secured it with zip ties behind the curtain so it can't be seen and right to the outlet. Our lights and fan plug right it up in the roof so unless you look up, you won't even notice it. Hope that helps.

    During heavy rains does the water hit the house windows directly coming off the house roof and hitting the gazebo roof with a lot of volume being washed on to it? Also anyway you can give me the roof height of it measuring about two feet into the roofs pitch? Just wondering how close I could put it under the eve of the house and have clearance. I'm thinking of putting up a gutter on the house then tucking it under the eave a bit. All the measurements only show the lowest point and highest point. Just wondering how close you went to the house. Great video thank you for sharing it with all of us.

      Hi Ohu8one, thanks for watching and asking. We appreciate it. We do get some splashback but it's not a heavy stream of weater. The small gutter on the roof helps keep that from happening. I wish we had a gutter on the cut out where this buts up to. That would eliminate but that would have required us to redo the entire gutter on the back of the house. Not worth it in our case. The measurement that I have is 7' 6" roughly 2ft in. Hope that helps

      Hi Ken, Thank you for watching and sharing the kind words. We really appreciate that. Congrats on your purchase as well. You pose a great question. I would say if you have a great lift and all the strapping to lift up all corners at the same time, then yes, you could do that. • @edwardbain5391
      @edwardbain5391 Před 6 dny

      Dear Ken I just assembled one and your thought is positive in some sense of reasoning however I found myself working from the top and the bottom with the one I assembled. My guess is the roof weighs when complete probably over 300 pounds rough guess for a 12×18 . I really would not recommend it now that I think of it. Because the tie into the frame is screws and nuts that tie into the frame roughly every 8 inches along the bottom edge of the roof. I found that each sheet of roofing required carefull alignment and the nuts were best left loose in some areas until the whole sheet could be made to fit as best as possible. As in life all things are not perfect including myself. I found that I had to grind off an edge on a couple roof sheets to match the bolt holes on the structural supports and also drill a few holes in the underlying roof sheeting at times to get the bolt through to the structural member.I definitely would not try that the more I think about it. Assembling the roof counter clockwise is recommended. One thing I did was level the frame that the roof sits on before assembly and that seemed to help . The surface that the shelter was mounted to was not completely level so after I got the roof on I dropped the whole structure and it seems to have settled well.I also left all the bottom bolt on the roof sheeting slightly loose until I finished one whole side then would go back when complete and tighten the bottom bolts on that side. For a premanufactured product I thought it was made fairly well I only had about four pieces that seemed to be far off of perfect fit and I was able to figure a way to get them to fit. Another thing I just thought of when putting together the upper roof leave the top metal plate loose so you can get the roof sheets up under it. If you tighten it all the way it will get you to start cussing when you are up on a ten foot ladder trying to get the roof pieces to slide under it for the upper roof section. A ten foot ladder and a twelve foot 2×4 work great for getting the roof started . Laying the 2×4 across the frame near the corner then bungee strapping it to the frame. You can attach two main roof supports to the upper roof plate then put those legs up on the 2×4 and walk the roof plate to the top of the ladder then strap it down not too tight. Proceed to attach the corners that you attached to the roof plate then you can work from there attaching the four other roof supports one at a time. Be carefull but it works or use your lift to do that if you can. Good luck Ken!

    Appreciate your video. We are in the market and you answered several of our questions. Why did you label the video Kozyard / Purple Leaf? They are two different companies? We originally wanted the Kozyard but they don't carry a 14x20 where as Purple Leaf does. Also Domi has a 14x20 which looks a lot like the Purple Leaf too. So hard figuring out which one to go with. Thanks!

The reason we labeled it both brands is one of our early viewers told us the part numbers and instructions were exactly the same for Purple Leaf (ours is Kozyard). Another awesome brand is Yoleny. We've assembled their 10x13 gazebo, 10x20 pergola and about to assemble their 10x12 metal gazebo in case you wanted to see what they have. Hope that helps. Come back and let us know how it goes. • @SpiritedWrenchers
      @SpiritedWrenchers  Před rokem

      Hi Brian, Thanks for watching! I don't think that question has been asked before, so thank you for it! With our southern Ohio drizzly rain showers, it's not terribly loud underneath, and I like to go sit with a beverage and enjoy the sound of the rain if it's warm enough (and not too windy). During heavy rain or thunderstorms, it is noticeably louder, but it isn't so loud that we can't have a conversation inside the house by the sliding door or even sitting under the gazebo (assuming it's not too windy). We haven't experienced any hail larger than 1cm, but the roof has held up quite well and hasn't been dented or warped from rain or snow with our seasonal changes. They do flex a bit picking them up to install but are well secured to the frame for stability. Hope this helps; take care and stay safe!

    • @SpiritedWrenchers
      @SpiritedWrenchers  Před rokem

      Hi Clark, thanks for watching and asking! We really only close the curtains occasionally when we use the hot tub. The wind seems to have them billowing more than we'd like when they are closed, so we opt to keep them open. We are starting to see some sun fade on the exposed sections so we will likely pull them down for the summer. As far as rain and snow protection, we can say that any wind with it has the curtains blowing into the gazebo footprint about 2' and bringing all that rain and snow with them. If you could secure the lower zippers, there would be significantly more protection. Hope this helps, take care and stay safe!
