Cesar Cortinas (1892-1918) was a Uruguayan Composer
His musical studies began in 1905 when his father was elected deputy for the department of San José and the family had to move to Montevideo. There he begins to take lessons with the teacher Camilo Giucci (grandfather of the composer Carlos Giucci).
At thirteen he began to write his first compositions. His first works belong to this period of his studies in Montevideo with Camilo Giucci, among them Ballade, Printemps and an Ave Maria for three voices.
In 1909, at the age of 17, he went to Europe and passed the admission test to study at the Berlin High School of Music directed by Max Bruch, becoming the only South American student that the teacher had.
The climate of northern Europe makes him sick with pulmonary tuberculosis and he comes to the brink of death, forcing him to move to Switzerland to be treated. In 1911 he was discharged and returned to Montevideo to dedicate himself to his compositional activity.
His second trip to Europe took place in 1912. During his stay there he wrote for Uruguayan newspapers about European musical life, but when the First World War broke out he was forced to return to Montevideo in November 1914, already very broken. of health. To take care of his health, he goes to the country house of his sister María Cortinas, where he composes the Poem for piano and string quartet.
    He died at age 26.

Fantastico!

What a beautiful concerto! Reminds me of the Glazunov violin concerto quite a lot. Where could I find the music for his string quartet?
