It's not just that. She was inlove with him in every way. This was her THIRD marriage, and ALL OF THEM ended because the man in some facet didn't love her the way she loved them. Jealousy shmealousy, her pain was far deeper than what she said.
This would’ve been a good marriage of convenience had she known beforehand he was gay and she was fine with it. She’s not gay, she’s straight, and probably wanted a husband who was attracted to her and wanted to be intimite with her. To find out he doesn’t see her like that, and finds intimacy as a chore is very sad
I mean....it is true though? You can be the most hight-tech brand new dishwasher of all time, but a dishwasher still remains a dishwasher. For me everyone is a dishwasher as well. I can fill and empty one if asked, but I would never voluntarily kiss one or look at one with any sort of desire.
@@jellyfishbeans94 Is there something or someone you would want to be compared to when an Asexual person tries to explain what it is to someone who doesn't understand it like "I am not interested in anyone, I don't think about it, I don't get aroused by anything" and so on? I have heard comparisons to perfume, marble statues, piles of dog poo, the act of murder, special niche kinks, and the list goes on. Dishwasher is not even the worst of it, but it gets the sentiment across that you are not interested in mattress acrobatics with them. I don't know if I explained that right...I hope but doubt I did.
That was really cruel. I struggle between feeling badly for gay men in the past for not being able to be out, and being really pissed off at the ones who tricked women into marrying them, wasting their time and blocking them from finding something true. They could have just been old spinsters like the lesbian aunties who lived together. At least as men, they had resources and didn't _need_ to get married.
It's still happening today in countries where homosexuality is a crime. They likely couldn't tell their partners as the marriages could've been arranged and also they risk being outed and jailed.
I understand you, but I can also see where they were coming from. Being a man doesn't necessarily mean that they wouldn't have been forced into marriage. The social benefits and security from marriage was highly desired back then, and a lot of couples didn't ever love each other romantically and only saw each other as an agreement (I mean, just look at the Beth Ann plot). I can Karl's side of this easily. BUT, in Simone's case specifically, it was quite cruel considering this was her third marriage (and she broke off the other two because she didn't feel loved).
Societal pressures are the root cause leading to these sort of circumstances, and it's not really either of the partner's fault. Plus most importantly, are we forgetting that this was set in the 1970's?
Sometimes people don't know they are gay until it's too late. But yes I agree that even in the past men did not HAVE to get married, unlike women who otherwise typically had no resources.
I mean im Gay myself but comparing Lucy Liu to a dishwasher is somewhat harsh don’t you think Karl? She’s absolutely stunningly gorgeous and a personality to match!
Honestly, you couldn't ask for a more realistic and healthy representation of an actual human committed relationship than these two. Hollywood actually did half good for once. Shame they stopped the series in its infancy. It was worthy of further exploration and kept a fresh feel between the two seasons. While we'd love to hear more about the 1st season characters, we were swiftly drawn in and enraptured by the 2nd. It could have been a long runner, without a doubt.
Of course in real life… it’s not so amusing and easy… but you always have to respect honesty. They were up front with each other about what it was, and what it wasn’t and made things work for them. They were meant to be partners. Partners, soulmates… whatever label you choose doesn’t fit anyone else’s narrative or box. It fits yours.
In a world where he cannot have a life partner with the same sexual preferences, he is looking for someone that he can ba himself with.
