Nightmare of a build 😭😲

  • I have been building models for almost 40 years and sadly I have never built a model kit this bad.
I hate to knock anyone's products but this kit is horrible.
I have never built a Polar Lights kit before and I don't think I ever will again after this kit.
The instructions are absolutely pathetic and don't tell you much as to where parts are to be joined together.
It's just a vague exploded view that doesn't tell you much.
Building the inner body firewall is something you almost need to be an engineer to build.
Rarely do I use super glue on my builds but I had to on this one and also had to use kicker to set the super glue to get things to go where they are supposed to.
Hopefully it turns out well and is worth the headache it's been to build it so far.
    We'll see I guess...😜

Sometimes you gotta work with what you got! Some kits are designed to test your skill and patience. This one seems like it will test both! Good luck! Also, you are not on any time schedule to complete a build,(unless you ae commissioned to do one) just try and enjoy your hobby and dont stress so hard.

Best thing to do with these Polar Lights funny cars is to build the chassis on top of a cutting mat so you can use the grid pattern of the mat to keep it straight and aligned. Use super glue too so you're not having to sit there and hold it. And assemble the complete interior panel section while they're INSIDE of the body and set in their location. Just take care not to get glue on the body itself and you can pull it out carefully after it's dried. I've built 7 of these Polar Lights kits so far and probably 20 more in the stash. Helps to find completed builds on youtube videos so you can see the location of any of the parts you're not sure about.

That's definitely a tough one. I find when I build rails or funny car chassis they tend to twist....it's just their nature. I've never had a completely straight one yet. Sometimes kits are dogs. Remember there is no such thing as a perfect model kit, its that the more kits you do the more perfect you get or at lest you think you are. Now I agree this kit is bad and that why I got this kit for parts to fix other crappie kit. Good luck.

what you need is a jig for building the chassis, even if you have to hold the pieces together using whatever you've got on hand for a makeshift jig, what I've done is use paint jars for jigs. And sometimes you need to just do 2 pieces at a time and take your time doing it. As for the bar which glues in between the sides it shows the location in the drawing right below it.
As for the piece not molded properly call R2 and let them know.

It should be the same kit as the polar lights mr. Norm charger and the gene snow charger I have both sitting on my shelf built right now...the tube frame you have to build slowly I use styrene liquid cement and magnets on a metal plate to hold it in aligment till it dries...the short issue is just not exceptable and you shoulf get a replacement from round 2 . the tin work same as tube frame go slow amd hold in alignment... Hope that helps some.

Best way I've found to do these chassis' is build it on top of the grid of the cutting mat so you know you've got it straight and aligned and use a quick setting super glue. Even if it's just the tiniest drop just to get everything locked in place.

No offense, but I can’t see how you build anything straight with no room to work. These funny car chassis are made for several different kits. The back two pin holes are for two different length bodies. I agree the instructions should be better, but there are enough build videos out there that can really help. It’s called modeling, not assembling.. If you build real race cars you learn to fabricate. Consider the same process when you build plastic kits. Use tape, clamps, clothes pins, etc to help hold parts together while they dry. These older kits take sanding, shaping, and lots of fitting to get them right. Just like real cars do. Keep your cool, watch some videos, ask some questions from others. The community is awesome and there’s always someone willing to help..
