- A playthrough of Interplay's 1993 Super NES versus fighting game, ClayFighter.
Played through on the hard difficulty level with Blue Suede Goo.
Though it tends now to get criticized for lacking depth compared to Street Fighter 2, this got a lot of positive press in gaming magazines when it came out. Every character was rendered using stop-motion animation of digitized stills of clay models - "claymation", just like Gumby and Frosty. Or like Rick Moranis as a dog in Ghostbusters. Or Wallace and Gromit. You get the idea.
Anyways, I dare you to watch or play this and not laugh. It's that stupid and immature that you can't help giggle at it like your 13 again.

Most people would find an Elvis impersonator weird in a fighting game, however Elvis was drafted in the Army during Vietnam and he also practiced martial arts as well.
Suddenly the climax of Bubba Ho-Tep no longer seems so far fetched.

God, this brings back fond memories. Me, my sister, and my dad would all take turns playing against the winner on cold winter evenings; I always loved playing The Blob. Hilarity always ensued... I miss those days.

I remember my older brother and I laughing our asses off at blue suede goo vs helga. Seeing the character select was like being in a time machine.

Yeah man.
ClayFighter is pretty damned absurd, and that's its best quality. Claymation Elvis impersonators and Viking-ladies duke it out in taffy factories and opera houses, and to top it all off, there's even a fully vocalized theme song - cool stuff!

Not much, really. It was compressed so much it took little enough space to fit with everything else
But there is a lot of voice lines in the game so it wouldn't be hard to imagine
Not sure what chip Clayfighter used in the cartridge, but remember, Vortex even had full surround-support and an amazing synth soundtrack. It depends a lot on the chip used for compressions in the cartridge. Hell, even the FX chip was used for advanced compression, much like using a GPU today for advanced algorithms and parallel threads.

I used to play this game a lot on the SNES with Blob. That crouching HK of his was so good. You know, the one which he hops up in the shape of a shoe? Best anti-air move ever.
This game fascinated me as a kid. Like even then before I knew of the concept of a “bad” game, I know this was “so bad it’s good”

If ClayFighter ever makes a comeback, it better be a really solid comeback. For if its rebooted in the right possible ways, all they would have to do is take the Mortal Kombat 2011 approach and merge all storylines from the three games into one.

It's such a shame that the 2016 reboot got cancelled long ago. I would've love to see the return of this series in glorious HD.
I may not have played that game, but ClayFighters had an interesting assortment of playable characters! You know, whoever done that Blue Suede Goo one, in my opinion, must’ve be inspired by Elvis Presley & he’s king of rock n roll. (Not to mention his outfit, that hair, & his way of talking) 🤔🕶️🕺🏻🎸🎶🎨👨🏾🎨

I remember finding this in a used games bin when I was 8 or 9 years old, had a working snes at the time, and I never knew that the character sprites were made of clay.

The blob was by far my favorite so glad he was in the second one as well considering they didn't continue with some characters and replaced with new ones
