Shizuka tries 3 different types of takoyaki at Tsukiji Gindaco, a well-known chain of takoyaki shops that started in Tokyo’s Tsukiji Market; and Daikanyama Tempu, a popular takoyaki shop run by Sakuramoto-san (a.k.a. Saku-chan), an Osakan who is creating his community around takoyaki in Tokyo.
After trying the original, seasonal, and teritama styles of takoyaki at Gindaco, Shizuka meets Sakuramoto-san at his takoyaki shop and standing bar in Daikanyama where she learns about how he went from being a typical Japanese company worker to the owner of a takoyaki shop frequented by celebrities and everyday people alike. The conversation takes a philosophical turn, with Sakuramoto-san explaining why he instituted an honor code with his guests’ bills.
What is takoyaki made of?
Generally, takoyaki consists of a savory batter that’s ladled into a special takoyaki pan with circular indents, topped with slices of octopus and more batter, shaped into balls, and topped with sauces. Classic Gindaco takoyaki is usually slathered in takoyaki sauce, mayonnaise, katsuobushi (bonito flakes), and aonori (dried seaweed).

I absolutely love takoyaki. Liked more the Osaka style than the Tokyo ones, but the Tokyo ones were very nice as well. Here in Sao Paulo Brazil, we also have a very small takoyaki shop and it's delicious.

Octopus might not be everyone's favourite and so some ingenious Japanese chefs, taking lessons learned from Okonomiyaki, give customers the choice to customise their Takoyaki and have prawns, ham or even cheese for vegetarians instead of octopus inside their Takoyaki! Although with that said, that will no longer be Takoyaki and be Gomiyaki instead which doesn't exactly sounds appetising when translated! 😅

GinzaFukuyoshi (in Ginza and Akasaka) and Minatoya (Sasazuka station) are also good takoyaki places in Tokyo. In Odaiba, there is a food court called "Odaiba Takoyaki Museum" where you can compare 5 popular Takoyaki shops from Osaka.

Finally you guys are sitting while eating lol. Its hard eating while standing. One thing I also observe that in Japan is that its super hard to find trash cans. So eating in the middle of the street is not only awkward, but finding trash can also makes it worst lol.
Yes, I agreed. Public thrash can is almost non-existence especially near tourist sites in Kyoto/Osaka. You either eat at the stall you order, try your luck to get any shop/stall owner to accept your thrash (good luck) or secretly go to back alley to dump it in someone else garbage can 🤣

The takoyaki in Osaka tastes better than those in shopping malls in my country. Maybe the ingredients used in japan is unique.

Oh Takoyaki, I love that..so sad I still cannot go back to Japan due travel restrictions, before this pandemic, I used to travel to Japan regularly to eat for 2-3 times a year since 2009.

One warning, never ever EVER eat a freshly made ball. Learned my lesson and steamed the roof of my mouth and it was not fun. But I love Takoyaki and the various topping from different stalls/restaurants.
