  • Subscribe: / darrenb3 NEW THAILAND VIDEOS EVERY WEDNESDAY! Thai Take Away Food. How to Eat Cheap in Thailand Vlog. Our Dinner Tonight: Street Food from a Night Market in Krabi.
    In this vlog I answer a few questions from my subscribers: 1) Does my family cook food in Thailand and 2) What happens to the street food in Thailand at the end of the day. I go to a Thai food market and get some street food for our dinner tonight. Take-out in Thailand is much cheaper than at a Thai restaurant in other countries, but it tastes at least as good, it's usually even more delicious!
    This video was filmed at the City Market in Krabi Town. It's on Maharaj 10 Alley in Krabi Town (Google Maps coordinates 8.065098, 98.916182) and is open every day from around 4pm till about 8:30 pm and is a great place for shopping and there’s also tons of Thai cuisine and street food!
    Thai Street Food is really delicious, it’s a must to try if you’re on holidays in Thailand. Thailand food markets are one of the best places to buy fresh and authentic Thai food, or to buy groceries and fruit while you travel in Thailand. There are so many Thai dishes on offer and the foods here are cheap, and so tasty! And in case you’re worried, eating street food is perfectly safe. It’s what the locals eat and it is cooked fresh and sold quickly. I’ve been eating it for 3 years in Thailand and my friends who have been to visit and tour Thailand have all eaten it, and none of us have had any problems. Thai street food is some of the best Thai food you’ll find in Thailand!
    The markets in Thailand are a great place to get an insight into Thai culture while you travel in Thailand. You can shop alongside the locals and learn what they buy and eat. And the markets are a great place to try traditional Thai street foods, learn Thai recipes and cooking, as well as eat some of the best Thai dishes in Thailand. You'll see the people cooking the food right in front of you. And best of all, the food is cheap, often much cheaper than eating in a Thai restaurant. Eating at markets is a good way to eat cheap on your Thailand holidays.
    Make sure you check out some Thai Food Markets on your trip to Thailand, and be sure to sample some of the amazing Thai street food that's available in Thailand! If you want to try some of the most delicious food in the world be sure to visit Thailand!
    At any market in Thailand you'll find clothes, food, jewelry, crafts, souvenirs, CDs & DVDs, phone accessories, bags, wallets & purses and loads of cooked authentic Thai cuisine including all the regular Thai cuisine, as well as Thai street food and other delicacies such as durian, duck, frog and various insects. There’s so much variety, it’s definitely worth a look at the markets if you’re on holidays in Thailand.

    I think Darren made a great point. These vendors depend on repeat business to survive so they are not going to sell food that'll make people sick.

    I am so envious... you live in a place where eating out is not only cheaper but possibly even more importantly 100x tastier than what I could cook... haha! Look at that selection of beautifully cut fruit, delicious curries etc. (from a warm and wonderful smiling lady 7:50, I'm always so happy when I see how friendly these Thai market vendors are). Even the sweet scene (both fruits and dessert-wise) is top notch in Thailand.
    13:46 Man what I would do for that stink bean curry! My mouth waters when I see red-hot curries
    14:42 Yummy khao mok gai/nasi biryani
    And it's all relatively healthy too! Crazy. Would love to say I'm not jealous but I really am!! Also how beautiful is your family, so cute with your lovely wife smiling and your son with the "Cheers" haha! Speaking as someone who was born in M'sia and raised/lives in the UK, you are a very lucky person! :)
    P.S. Totally agree with you on the market vendors only cooking as much as they think will sell that day. Competition is cut-throat and if someone got sick, there's no way to survive in business because word would get round faster than you can say "Thailand". It's a tough job - food prep/cooking is time-consuming, most of these people are up early buying fresh ingredients and then must spend ages cooking, not to mention then having to sell it later on, I admire them!

      Yes, the food is about 100x tastier than what most people could cook, which is another factor that makes it attractive. Yes, your summary is very accurate. They wouldn't last long if someone got sick. And yes, I am rather lucky :), thanks for the nice comments!

    I like how you tell a store about street food. Telling a more complete story makes your vlogs stand out. I thing I would go bananas trying all the food options available. And I can only imagine that cooking at home only if you wanted to control the ingredients like salt, sugar, MSG, and stuff. Thanks

    Having visited Thailand so many times, I also have personal experiences of Thai street foods or what the vendors sell.. if you believe the foods you would be seeing in a big quantities would be gone within a few hours. Thai people are food loving and every time no matter very early in the morning or late night, you will see people eating. once in Pattaya I was going to have breakfast, I saw a vendor and then I decided to buy some foods, but then I changed my mind to go to McDonals and when I came back in half an hour, the Vendor was gone... She 'd sold everything she had.... I love the Thai foods as well.... and I am going back to Thailand once again.... but after the rainy season....

      @darrenb3  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, it's possible to heat the food in a microwave Dave, as I did in this video. I personally wouldn't heat the food in a microwave while it's still in the bag, but cheap plates and bowls are readily available in Thailand. Just look for a shop with plastic buckets and other plastic stuff outside, or go to a supermarket.

    lol...I only wondered about you cooking at home for a nano-second. Why make the mess when delish food is only 10 min away with no mess. So I learned this watching moekbang (Korea) and I was shocked and awed at the same time....when they order take-out (what Americans call it), they get it delivered on decent serving dishes and then they put those dishes outside their door and the delivery person comes back later and picks up the dishes. No kidding! That is also where I learned they have to boil their water or drink bottled...so that may somewhat explain it. The restaurants can easily steam/clean the dishes. A whole bunch of us viewers who don't live in Korea were really overwhelmed by both those pieces of info. Have you been to Korea or heard that????

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  Před 8 lety +1

    I've been waiting for you to post a market video with some specific content in order to ask a question. I've seen this asked elsewhere but never answered. What's the deal with the crooked headed fish? Every time I see them it looks like they are giving the 'wai' to someone. lol. BTW, don't know if you caught it during editing but right when you are starting to eat your catfish salad (appx 18:38 mark) a very large spider drops from the ceiling to the floor to the right of your right shoulder. He's fast. First time I viewed I caught just a quick movement so backed up and slowed the video down to frame by frame and there he was. God I hate spiders!!

      Lol. The fish is a type of mackerel (short mackerel) I believe they bend the head down so that they can be fitted into round bamboo steamers to be cooked. I hadn't seen the spider in the video until you mentioned it, but I did find and relocate him a few days after the video was made :)

      Wow, you must really be behind in video responses. I posted this 3 1/2 months ago. After a couple of weeks, I figured I'd never get a response.

      Yes, my apologies. I get hundreds of comments per month and I do try to reply to all of them, but it does take a lot of time. I missed his one somehow and just noticed it when I was looking at the comments on this video. Again, my apologies.

    The only time I have ever had food poisoning in Thailand is after eating at an american takeaway chain, KompletelyFuckedChicken or McSpewburger. The only other cases that I know of are where foreigners go to a mookata (Thai barbecue refer czcams.com/video/7j-ODk2PAoc/video.htmlm15s ) restaurant and did not immerse their chop sticks in the soup after using them to put raw chicken on to cook.

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  Před 8 lety

      Sure, that is important at moo kata to dip your chopsticks in the hot broth after using them to touch raw meat. The last time I had an issue with food was in Australia more than 4 years ago from the same chicken chain.

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  Před 8 lety

      Boiled eggs or plain rice is about all I can think of. Nearly everything in Thailand has a combination of sweet, salty, spicy & sour.

    • @darrenb3

      You seem to have missed my point here. They do not sell the food the next day, they make it fresh every day. There was still an hour or more left of trading when I left the market and nearly all of, if not all of, that stuff would sell in that hour. In that hour the things get progressively cheaper, up to the point where often if I buy 4 things they will give me 2 extra things free to get rid of it. I have asked vendors about it in the past and they told me that if they have stuff left over they give it to their families, or friends/neighbours/relatives in order to get rid of it. They are not going to risk selling old food that might make someone sick, because word will travel very quickly and they will soon not have any customers, as their customers will go to the many neighbouring shops. I hope that clears up what I wasn't clear about in the video :)

    too much turnover for the food to go bad, and frankly I can almost tell from the vids where care is taken. having said that I'm sure many good places avoided would result on missing some magic? word of mouth alone would be enough incentive to continue to ensure profitability?

    • @darrenb3
      @darrenb3  Před 8 lety

      Yes, things sell pretty quickly at the markets and word of mouth is definitely a big thing here, as in other places.
