Making an ADJUSTABLE Hoop-Petti! (Hoop Skirt + Petticoat) | Lolita DIY

  • Hello Everyone!
    In today's video I share the process of how I made my adjustable hoop-petit! A hoop skirt + petticoat combo to hopefully eliminate the need for me to have to make another petticoat to wear with my lolita dresses for quite a long while. Now does this mean that I’ll never make another petticoat again? - Of course not! I’m a lolita! I need at least 30 for no other reason than to color match with every dress I own (/sarcasm) LOL! But at the very least this should tide me over for the rest of the year and save my precious fingers the pain of having to gather, ruffle and sew together another petticoat.
    This is one of the projects I mentioned previously back in my Feb. ’Sew with Me’ video and is actually the last project that I’m going to make a video for from that video (*I will probably make the apron from that video either this month or next month). Now that spring is here, I’m going to start working on some of the spring/summer projects that I’ve been putting off until I after I made this one, and I’m very excited to start on those so I can share a few of them with you here as well!
    🌷What projects are you all working on for this spring/summer? Dresses? Blouses? An adjustable hoop-petti of your own to survive the heat and be the most perfect poof on your block? Tell me about it! As I low-key need more ideas of what to make for spring besides more aprons and a floral jsk! Lol 😂
    As always I hope you enjoyed this video, thanking you so much for watching and I’ll see you all soon with another DIY video!

    This is so adorable and versatile, kudos to you for not giving up on making your dream petticoat! I imagine it must feel cool and refreshing compared to a regular petticoat. I wore a long hoop petticoat for one of my longer Baby dresses during the summer and it was so much breezier than when I wore a long cotton petti-skirt for another outfit. I will definitely put a petti-hoop skirt on my summer to-do list, which currently has sailor lolita accessories and casual/otome cotton blouse and another attempt at cottage core stays/corset. Looking forward to more videos from you!

      Omg, soooo refreshing! Lol The high today where I live was 86 and the feeling of not having layers and layer of tulle surrounding my legs was amazing! - Ahhh, your summer sewing list sounds so much fun ❤️! I also have a blouse on my list of things to sew and at some point I would also love to add some sailor lolita pieces to my wardrobe as well, as I've also thought sailor lolita was such a cute look for summer! - But anyways, sending you all the motivation and positive sewing energy so that you can complete all of things on your sewing to-do list! 🍀

    Nice, I loved your background of the versions that didn't work out well as opposed to the final one that did! I appreciate people stating what just didn't work and what does work. Making me feel like I should make my own hoop skirt for the summer . . .

    • @SewBlack
      @SewBlack  Před 2 lety +2

      Same! I also really like it when people show or at the very least talk about some of things that either didn't work or went wrong during their sewing process as sometimes it can really help you avoid making the same mistakes or just give you more information to think about if you're planning on making something similar. - Also trust your feeling and make one! Do it! Give in to this virtual peer-pressure and make the hoop-petti so you too can be the most perfect poof on your block! 😎🎀 (plus summer is coming and this thing is breeze af! lol)

      @@SewBlack hahahah! yeah, I'm only looking at two partially finished skirts. a retro 70s pattern with pockets and my attempt to replicate a cdrama 'generic' hanfu skirt which is likely going to be a learning experience. buuuuuut my current petticoat which got a new elastic band recently is still having uneven poof issues. hrrrrmmmm.

    This is really cute and so happy that you were able to figure out how to create it. How does it behave when you sit down? In the past hoop skirts, bustles, and other structures could make sitting down a challenge unless you practiced before attempting to do it with company or strangers around. I still wonder how some women managed to do it with the really large hoops, different sizes of bustles and the wide narrow hoops that made it difficult to go in and out through doorways. How much space did they have to allow for women's skirts at formal dinners. Because in most estates and manor homes they actually used rulers when setting the table and spacing the chairs around the table.

    Good work! I am not sure if I can do so well. Now the big question that many lolitas ask, how is it when you sit down?

    • @SewBlack
      @SewBlack  Před 2 lety +6

      Lol comfortable as long as you don't sit directly on the hoops. With a normal petticoat you never really have to think about how to sit, but with a hoop skirt you always have remember to lift up the back of your skirt over whatever it is that your going to sit on so the hoops go over it. I promise it's a lot easier than it sounds lol 😅

    • @tohrurikku
      @tohrurikku Před 2 lety +1

      @@SewBlack I think I have seen some tutorial videos. I like the look of a hoop petticoat, but I am not sure if I like some of the hoops you have to go through when you wear them. Pun not intended, but it works.
