  • John Arthur ("Jack") Johnson nicknamed the "Galveston Giant," was an American boxer. At the height of the Jim Crow era, Johnson became the first African American world heavyweight boxing champion (1908--1915). In a documentary about his life, Ken Burns notes, "for more than thirteen years, Jack Johnson was the most famous and the most notorious African-American on Earth''. (March 31, 1878 -- June 10, 1946)

Awesome video. It truly took true grit to live in those times, and Jack Johnson danced with the best of them.

The ironic thing is that Sam Langford hit much harder than Johnson which is why he signed to meet him then broke his written contract ,Langford had lost when he was a novice kid to Johnson and weighed 145-150 pounds at the time but everyone he fought or who avoided him said he was the hardest hitter and most dangerous heavyweight who just happened to be black too. Then Joe Gans according to several all time rankings is placed at number 1 pound for pound of all time ,when Robinson isn't put there and Joe Gans "The old master" was black too.

Joe Gans and Robinson both great black fighters of their day were the greatest fighters ever ,Langford even including the no contests and draws because he had to knock his opponents out to get a win a lot of the time and was the hardest hitting man who ever lived.

Which goes to show you that people are ridiculous, how can you not like a person basic on they're color and what race they date. But I think it was deeper than that, Jack Johnson was a strong, brave, intelligent black man and at that day in time white folks seen him as a threat. Basic on him being that confident and free spirit, they figured the rest of the black folks was going do the seem as in being confident in themselves 🧐. They knew Jack Johnson was already the black people black hope, that's why they beat him to it and came up with the name the great hope which was lame as hell 😂. Sad how they destroyed Jack's life by making him throw that fight, but before Jack threw it. Jack Johnson left a serious azz cutting on him to always remember 👊🏿💯💣💥🔥

JJ very impressive in his battle for civil liberties. However, when it came to boxing. He was highly overrated. After winning the Hwt championship he never gave another Black fighter a title shot. No doubt because he lost to many of them. Second after winning the title, he defended it against mostly smaller, much smaller men. Today they would be Middleweights and Lt Heavies. His lack of skills showed up when he fought a man who was 4 years younger, and boxed as a hobby, Jess W. His first match against a man his own size, and he got his ass kicked easily. Jess followed a great plan and with 1 well placed punch ended the fight. The Bully got Bullied.

In your own language: tell me if the stories about that boxer's DISCRIMINATION against his OWN Black female counterparts. I read stories about him ...that the more Whites spat in his FACE and demean him to the point of nightmarish SORROW, the more he WENT after White women. Considering the time period when he was demonstrating HATRED against those of his own race, can YOU explain as to WHY such an "intelligent" man would deserve would deserve such high encomium for self hatred and that against his own. There was something WRONG with those who made him suffer; there was, equally so, that same inherent malady from HIM who could NOT love his own. When one scrutinizes what I have stated in the context of the time, he/she should agree with the following idiomatic expression from the language of my people: Fa il ponte d' oro per il nemico...(Make a GOLDEN bridge for the ENEMY). In other words, that they run away...far AWAY from you. Era veramente un traitor!

Sam Langford was a better fighter with a harder punch who lost to Johnson as a kid, not prone to grapple and hold like Johnson same with Joe Jeanette.

Joe Choynski knocked Johnson out then taught him how to become a defensive legend ,which was very altruistic and generous of him.

This guy was full of fear, Actually afraid of getting in the ring after the age of 21, and he had to convince these other black boxers that it would be worth it... what an weak excuse.... from the other boxers, like Jim Jeffries, Sam Langford, Joe Gans and many other black boxers from that era. The was a white fight from Canada who kicked his ass for the full rounds and he got knocked out by Stanley Ketchell.
I think if these other boxers watched johnson simple M.O that would had beaten him in the majority of fights.
The he ends up winning the championship and taking the title away, by a 40 fat guy , who has fought in 5 years and they gave him 30 day to get into shape.... Yeah.. a light weight could have done the same thing. NO victory ! Jack !
Both Ali and jack johnson were so OVERRATED.
