Definitely captivating and the fact that it's basked on a true story makes it even more fascinating. I personally liked the way that the story unfolds by moving back and forth in time. The actors did a great job of depicting the best and the worst of mankind. And then there's Monique who is torn, unable to disengage from a monster of a man, both repelled and attacked by his evil deeds. Definitely a good find.

This is why I don't give a crap about hollywood and their movies, or their "actors" or their tv shows. I started binging this show this weekend and finished today. It is far better than anything I have gone to the theater for since I don't know when and I like the fact that there is nobody is this show that I know. Hollywood actors be damned.

Loved this. Production values / art direction just excellent. Perfectly captures the grit and atmosphere of SE Asia (not too much has changed since the 70s!) I love a true story - albeit a tragic one like this. All the characters are great - fortunately the actor playing Sobraj is the only one with bad hair and makeup! Doesn’t matter though - everything else makes up for it. Highly recommend - move past first episode - it does build momentum.

Fantastic true story. The acting is great, interesting settings across the globe and an unbelievable but true story line. I was on the edge of my seat during some episodes and couldn't wait for the next one. I'm pretty fussy about movies and tv shows, but I can't think of anything to criticize in this one. Some crime stories have interesting plots and evil villains but often don't have any characters that I can empathize with. This has really bad characters but also has really good ones, that i actually cared about. I also appreciate the lack of preaching in this. It is just a great straight on story.

The whole thing takes too long and the constant "5 years earlier" "Two months later" thing is tedious and if you take your eye of it for a minute you forget where you are supposed to be. Also meant a few continuit erros for me at the end where people aged at vastly different rates.

The back and forth time line is and was the most Annoying thing about this show. However great acting , riveting on the edge shock and suprise, but annoying. So annoying jumping back and forth for what seems like an eternity 🤦 I wanted to skip to the end. But you don't and it makes you keep watching to get through it . Not all of it but especially around episode 5-6 . Better have good patience sometimes as I don't . It a time investing show. Although a true story about a serial killer never ends good or you should think I haven't finished yet . But what this man did with he's accomplices is never short of evil . Very riveting to say the least , and scary to think there are people out there in the four corners of the world probably getting away with Murder as I write this is scary as I have Been to these places and watching this will make you think about trust issues with strangers along your journeys in a foreign country . All in all a decent sometimes well written show . Does have its bad moments in all acting and dialogue but very suspenseful. Ill give it a 6-7. Worth the watch for sure .. Great to think this one Dutch diplomat followed this story and justice prevailed .

The trailer didn't live up to its expectation. One of the worst story telling I have witnessed in a series. By the end of the series, it came to the point where I thought that I had gotten myself a master's degree in "Chronological time order"... The story is told in such disorganized time order of going back and forth from weeks to years... At least 7-8 times in a single episode !
The main character did a fantastic portrayal of Charles Sobhraj as a manipulative, charming, conniving, and evil man. However, I did not get the vibe of him being a "serial killer" as the series portrayed him more as a clever con artist. The exploration of his dark psyche and the motive behind to murder people, and what actually drove him to kill people in such inhumane manner, was totally left out.
The character of Herman was so frustrating to watch. He is supposed to be this brilliant young intelligent diplomat yet he comes across as someone who is quick to temper (even for the slightest of matters) and his character overall was dull and boring.
Of course, there was no point to focus on the romantic connection between Herman and his wife, Angela..but still, whenever they shared the screen time together, there was no chemistry between them as a loving couple. It was such an odd combination.
The final episode where Charles gets arrested finally after all those years was anti-climactic. You would think that after all those years he got away, the build up in leading to his arrest would be so lit and full of climax, but no, it wasn't. It was as if the Indian police where patrolling a park casually and ran into him and arrested him !
But still, you can watch it for yourself and judge it for yourself. But for me, it was a big let down.

If you have seen Randeep Hooda's Main aur Charles which a fabulous movie this series is a damp squid !! Didn't care for any of the actors. The crime seem to be repetitive & a tad boring. I fell asleep twice!! Hindi movie had a much better looking actor & definitely better paced.

Lesson 2: In addition to that, were you saying the same thing when Angelina Jolie- A white woman - donned black face and a frizzy wig that looked un natural, to.play Mrs Pearl in A mighty Heart? No? Watched #TheSerpent with much anticipation and expected a stylish retro account of #CharlesSobhraj. Royally wasted time in this boring series at #Netflix which has a #BBC tagging and is still a dark drama with weird time jump narrative.

Extremely slow. What could have been a 3 part series is 8. Confusing plot jumping back and forth in time for no apparent reason. The characters are loathsome, especially Monique. Read about the true story than lose 8 hours of your life you'll never get back.
