  • In today's tutorial I'll be demonstrating how to design some vintage style letters and text in vector format using Inkscape. This tutorial emphasises the usefulness of the masking feature, which when used properly, adds a nice aged appearance to the design.

While we have hundreds of masters teaching graphic design in proprietary softwares, masters like you are very rare who can impart training in open-source tools like Inkscape and that too so much effectively and user friendly manner. No praise is enough for guys like you. You just rock. Keep it up.

      I noticed and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong...I kept going by the video to the T and it wouldn't turn out right. Lol Finally figured it out though. Whenever you make the copy that goes to the back... Turn the Fill off on it. (Just the copies) For whatever reason the Stroke to Path and Break Apart method doesn't function properly as long as Fill is turned on for the duplicates. Only thing about it though that is a little tedious. In order to delete the parts he did, I had to physically pull the pieces away from each other, delete what wasn't needed. And then piece the others back together with the alignment tool and then use the Difference option under paths.

    • @98Eduardo98
      @98Eduardo98 Před 7 lety +3

      it wouldn't line up so perfectly because you'd have to eyeball the X and Y axis movements, instead of just estimating the Y axis movement like he had us do (when we had to hold Ctrl to move it straight down)

    • @huscat1609
      @huscat1609 Před 6 lety

      The only thing he accomplished by that was moving the object along axis being exactly 30° down from the horizon. If you don't care about exact degrees you can do it by hand without rotation.

      @LFlores_ Před 7 lety +1

      Thank you very much. I use Windows in the office by obligation but, I use Ubuntu at home. I already installed keymon and it works very well.
      In appreciation of everything I learned on your channel, I checked some alternatives for Windows and found KeyPose. I tested it in virtualbox with Windows 7 and it works, although it is an overlay bar that crosses the whole bottom of the screen and disappears in a few seconds. There is another one called QiPress, this one I have not tried yet.
      You can find alternatives for different software here: bit.ly/2tJHwe6

      this comment rescues this video! I am using Inkscape 1.2 and would not have figured this out on my own.
      deleting the other red pieces is still necessary. I found it helpful to look at the 'layers and objects' panel when going through this then it was easy to find the smallest triangle, move it on top of the large red triangle, and deleting the other red pieces.

    This 3:15 stroke to path, nothing happens, no reaction, no unions. Nothing applies! Letter stays the same as it was before, did someone face same issue?

      I had the same problem and I solved this with an "Ungroup selected groups" after the "Path -> Stroke to path" instead of the "Path -> Break Apart" step. It seems like sometimes an extra ungroup is necessary after converting anything to a path (I am using version 1.0.1). I hope this helps.

    This tutorial just did not work for me. First I wasn't able to use the union command for some reason, could not generate stroke to path. Instead of union, I grouped it together somehow but when I tried to interpolate those strokes, Inkscape gave me an error message and it just did not work. This was so frustrating!

    • @LogosByNick
      @LogosByNick  Před 3 lety +4

      Sorry for the frustration. Unfortunately Inkscape changed the way stroke to path works in a recent release, which broke a lot of my tutorials (including this one.) If you're interested in a workaround, I addressed it in a recent video here: czcams.com/video/Sy0nUkUt9CA/video.html&t

      @@RaspberryFanta I've tried to replace Path-break apart by Object - ungroup , but even so , for this tutorial especially , the workaround doesn't work. For other tutorials it's ok to do so.

      @@laurentiapetcu130 Found a work around for this problem. After making the red stroke change the fill color for the red A to none. Then do the stroke to path and break apart (I may have also ungrouped it before breaking apart but don't remember). I ran into a problem @3:42 trying to select the inside part of the A holding shift, because it just kept reselecting the big A. Got around that by using Tab and individually deleting the same objects Nick deleted as a group.
