Nitecore killed it with the p23i, really nice beam profile for an sft70 in such a small reflector. The nitecore could be someones only flashlight and imo is actually a good value. Convoy is obviously better value considering only performance and you can get two different versions plus batteries and charger for the same price as the nitecore but I see both as excellent choices. A really great budget charger is the Xtar PB2S, it can be had for only $15 and will also work as a power bank with quick charge 3.0. I have other chargers and still bought the pb2s just because it's a versatile charger for a great value, I'd suggest anyone with a good amount of batteries to have one as a backup power bank.

Hi Thomas, thank you for the suggestion on the Xtar PB2S. I have a VC8 given to me by Tim McMahon, another torch enthusiast from Melbourne.. when I first started getting into lights. Nitecore is on the right track for sure and we're at the stage now where we can get the best of both worlds in terms of throw and high lumens. More efficiency/less heat and it'll be perfect.

@@DarrenYeoYT the power bank function was the reason I decide to buy one, it's a great feature and it also recharges batteries really quick. Depending on the usb power brick you are using it can do 5-9 volts and 2 amps or 12 volts and 1.5 amps. I just don't understand how they are making any money on it, quick charge and pd 3.0 in and out, nice display, magnetic cover, usb c, packaged and shipped for as cheap as $15.

I've never been impressed with Nitecore build quality, nothing close to Olight & Acebeam. Convoy is not stellar, but more than acceptible for the price. Proprietary cells are a deal breaker in any light. If you want on board charging in Convoy, get M21F. Essentially the same model with the addition of a Type 'C' plug. As to the beamshots, the difference is caused by choice of emitter. Convoy gives you variety of choices... Another big plus for Convoy.

Hi Gus, I'll keep that in mind! Acebeam/Weltool are two brands I'm curious about as they seem to use more TIR optics to achieve similar throw figures that you get from reflector lights of the same size, like the Convoy M21B. I'm not a fan of TIR lights with large bezels, can't carry them around comfortably unless you want to walk around with a holster lol. The XHP70.3 seems comparable to the SFT70.

@@polymathematics5837 the bottleneck on the overall throw is the reflector/TIR diameter and the size of the LED phosphor surface, relative to lumen output. It's why the NM1 throws the best. About the throw, I'm confused. The 23i has a spec of 55 kcd. I measured about the same on my 23i. The Convoy has a spec of 40 kcd and a review I read said it tested it 42 kcd. So how the Convoy has more throw is a mystery to me.

You can't compare two different Lights
That are clearly Not in the same category??
That's like comparing a Sports Car
    To a 4x4 Truck
    One is a Dedicated Thrower
The other is a Combination Beam!??
    They both have their uses
    If you wanna compare something
You need to compare Apples to Apples
    Obviously a Dedicated Thrower
    Will reach out alot futher
    than A combination Beam
    Because it's supposes to
One is not better than the other
    Different categories
    A better comparison would be
The Convoy against an LEP Light
Or comparing the SST70 to an SST40 Emitter
