Not the WRX’s power is the problem but the people’s ego! 276 hp for this car is plenty enough for the public roads! The car’s limit is much higher than mine. Once I slide off the road in a thigh corner bc I was pushing the gas pedal too much. ( the traction control was turned off). If this car would have more power I would have been in a much bigger trouble for sure! This car is not designed to be a street light fighter but to give you some of the rally experience meanwhile you can drive it every day. Rallying is not about going fast on the highway! If you don’t get it you don’t understand the main purpose of this car! These days many people think everything is about the numbers, but people forgot what driving is really about! All the modern technology gave us the false confidence that we can drive anything, but if you turn off all the electric then the real driving knowledge is coming out. This car is plenty powerful for every average driver.
276 is pathetic 😂
@@IdontKnow-fd6rpNot at all.
this is the most my wife has a boyfriend statement ive ever heard. wrxs are slow as dirt.
The average driver in the US shouldn't be driving. There are too many terrible drivers on the road driving cars that are far too powerful for them, at least with the WRX they'll be more likely to survive a catastrophic crash than if they were driving a Mustang. I am a huge fan of the WRX because it offers both reasonable power and handling on and off roads. Any modifications I install will be handling and reliability focused, top HP and TRQ is going to be 320/320 max. I plan on reducing and/or redistributing weight, and probably lifting it for rally reasons. Other option might be an Audi Quattro, but I'm not a huge fan of German cars. The Outback Wilderness is a blast to drive, I've gone 0-60 in mine at around 6 seconds, but I'd roll if I did what you can do with a WRX.
I have a '22 and its a fun to drive car at a reasonable price that you can make lots of improvements to and make it even better.
Why doesnt anyone do performance tests with it against it's competitors in snow, ice, mud?
Subaru symmetrical AWD > everything else !
Its a interesting car it does casual so well..
Ive noticed when im not in mood for casual or we need to pick up the pace a lot.. this car reminds me of my old eclipse gst and has the same no Effing around feel.
The balance of these two worlds it does better then any other turbo car ive owned.
Its really a very capable machine but refined enough as you said I think thats why some older subaru fans dont seem to appreciate this i guess as much as myself
Nicely said! Yeah I agree with you, this car does casual really good but also can be sharp when you need it to be. It’s a sweet spot Subaru nailed down which I feel is under appreciated as well!
I swapped my 2019 MX-5 Club for a 2024 WRX (both manual) and have to say that the current WRX is a snail below 3k RPM. Above that it's pretty quick, but it has zero down low power, atleast compared to a completely stock ND2/ND3 Miata. Still a fun car and has plenty of power once the turbo gets spooled up, but it lacks the immediacy of a naturally aspirated engine. I'm only talking about road use, never tracked either of them. Freeway passing power is different but comparable. The Miata is more responsive, but after the turbo lag, the WRX is much quicker than the Miata at speed.
this car is fun to drive, and put a few dollars into it and some diy love and you can get 100+mph... which makes this car a perfect!
Nice video and review .. Keep it up 🎉
Thanks Ateeq!
Coming from a stage 3 e60 blend VA Wrx.. can’t wait to pick up my VB This week.
Youre gonna love it, its so much better than the VA WRX... night and day different. Its much closer to what a stock STI feels like in the VA platform..
@@juanticimo Keen brother
As a VB owner myself, does anyone else have an aftermarket exhaust and experience a buzzing sound in the rear side door panel or handle on the top? Great video btw!
negative, Cobb catback here
My VA felt cheaper inside, plastics scratched easily. Also was jumpy more torque at low speeds around corners but the power fell flat after coming out of the corner. Clutch was weird and driving the car smoothly was hard. The VB fixes all of that. More adult, more clearance. The whole set up feels stiffer and more capable off road. I live in the county, now I'm not about to go airborne on a back road or dirt road or rib my bumper off lol. I've I'veowned a 2020 VA, 21 Tacoma, 22 scat pack, and currently 22 4runner/24 WRX. The 22 4runner stays home now. The scat was fun but a death trap on wet county roads.
The new wrx is nice but no sti , STI is faster by small margin in straight line ( heavy metal wrx video is a bad representation as driver and gear changes come into play a lot in that video) and around corners there’s no comparison as the STI has superior drivetrain and suspension. Where the new wrx shines is interior and the engine is more efficient and power can be made easier when tuned. The downside is the car does not feel raw and exciting like the STI does and new cars have lost that mechanical analogue driving feel. If I was to purchase the new wrx the only version I would buy is the TR and next year I would buy the TS as it has many other features. WRX is a great overall performer as it has 5 seat capacity and 4 doors with sporty performance and its awd system is one of the best on the market. If you are thinking of buying I’d wait for the Ts to arrive as it looks aggressive and has the digital dash and suspension upgrades and the seats look amazing. I’m a proud 2019 STI owner ( currently stage 2.5 ) and driving it is so fun as it has the power and sounds with the feel of a true sports sedan and I wish Subaru would make another one. I’m keeping mine forever to let my son drive it when old enough. Stage 2.5 plus pro tune has added 41 kw@ the wheels and a much more significant torque increase of 70nm @wheels and the power curve is much more linear so the car drives a lot better.
Thanks for the comment!
I have owned 2 VA STI's, a VA WRX, I currently own a Blobeye STI (05, which imo is the best STI they made) and i daily a 22wrx... overall the STI is still more of a raw experience, but the VB is an amazing daily compared to any of the previous gen WRX's... btw with just a ETS intake, and a Dmann, tune, the car really comes alive and feels way way better than stock.. If you are on the fence, go test drive one..
Nice 2005 - that is the only USDM year I'd trade my 2006 in for. I've got 162K miles on mine.
Did you stay out boost for this vid or do you always drive that conservatively? Nice vid btw🤙
I drive pretty conservatively most times, this car is easy to drive like a Grandma. But when I need to blow off some steam after a long day at work, I can get pretty spirited haha. Thanks for the comment!
need more powaaaaaa
I think the power is fine but I wish they would let you rev it higher (to at least 6500 rpm). I have 7000 rpm limit on my GD STI and even that doesn't give me that much room to play with in 1st or 2nd gears. Are the gears on VB WRX that much longer to compensate for lower RPM limit?
1st goes to like 32 2nd 56 car makes peak hp at 5600 rpm an bleeds off boost so no reason at all for it tobe higher than 6100 stock fa20 went to 6500 but hits peak hp before the fa24 does why everyone complains that car fell flat on its face up top. I'm waiting on my last part so hopefully get to install everything an get pro tune soon an change it to 6500 to 7k depending on where it makes peak power most tuner I've talked to said 500 rpm past peak is standard
What’s interesting is that the vb only makes ~5hp less than a jdm twinscroll gen 4 legacy (271 bs 276hp), the powerband looks nicer though
VB makes around 325 crank. The rating they give you is WHP not crank.
@@AntilleanConfederation ah that makes more sense, thanks for the clarification mate
Hey man, nice car. My one and only brand new car that I ever owned so far was my 2017 Sport-Tech WRX before I traded it in for a 2022 Acura TLX. TLX is nice but in some ways I really miss the sportiness of my Subaru and feel like I lost more than I gained from a driving experience perspective as they are two very different beasts.
Does the RS come with native navigation? I'm also in Canada. Thanks!
Hey! Thanks for comment. I use apple car play google maps for navigation and it works pretty well. The WRX will feel sportier for-sure but it definitely won’t be as comfortable compared to your TLX from a suspension feel over bumps and rougher roads. I owned an Acura CSX for 6 years before buying this car and the stiffer ride was something I noticed right away. BUT the handling and fun around turns is worth the sacrifice!
@@carswithsepp Thanks for the info! Hopefully the ACP/Android Auto is wireless at least. Believe it or not it is still wired on the 2022 TLX.
@@baldygrey2779 oh yes there is wireless android auto for 2024+ WRX!
I let my buddy at work drive my car who buys nothing but bmw or Audi and he said my vb feels more German than Japanese 😂 I’ve seen some people hate on the vb for losing that boy racer vaping college student vibe. That’s a plus for me
Really happy for you and how happy you seem to be with your car. :) The Subbie is a great machine, even if I prefer the previous version for sure.
Thanks bro!
I hope you can get to drive a GR Corolla so you can compare with your WRX. Id be curious on your thoughts.
I’d love to compare the two side by side. GR Corollas are hard to find in Canada. All of them are marked up ridiculously
how come your RPMs are way lower than mine? i have a 23 premium and at 15 mph my engine is already screaming to switch to second gear.. and i just watched you go 32 mph in second gear and barely be at 2k rpms. or are you on kilometers??
My car is canadian spec! So everything is km/hr. 1 mile is around 1.6km
@@carswithsepp ahh thank you!
These cars do fine at high speed, no worries. 😎 I hate the eyesight in the new ones. Glad I got a 22. Although, I should have traded for a 23 in a different color. The red attracts a lot of attention.
What color would you have gone for?
@@carswithseppprobably the grey. That's usually my go-to color choice on vehicles. I like white as well, but it shows dirt very fast.
I have a ‘22. It needs 300+ HP. It also needs the tuning fixed bc it almost never goes over 9psi. In 1rst it will max out at 13.2. But, in 3rd and up and on the highway, even when u downshift, the boost doesn’t go over 9, which doesn’t make any sense. Why have up to 13psi, but only use that much boost in 1rst and 2nd. Now, if anyone else knows about this, is this normal or is there something wrong with my car?
Not sure if that’s normal. Is yours tuned? If not, maybe try taking go the dealer if warranty is still there.
Depends on rpm and load too, higher speeds and rpm on the highway won’t see the same peak boost too
@@tanner2701 Ya. so I took a better look at it. Basically the OEM tune keeps it
@@RobHTech sounds like a lot of other turbo cars.
0-100 kmph equates to 0-62 mph when you convert kmph to mph. 0-100 kpmh will always have a longer acceleration number than 0-60 mph.
Are you going to drive yours in the winter?
Yes!
I didn’t think it was fun stock tbh. But an intake with a 93 protune, well that’s a different story
Ooh yes!
@@carswithsepp just watch out for ur transmission and take care of your car and keep torque low. I’ve blown my transmission at 329 whp and 342 wtq and yes that’s intake and protune only on 93
@@PhilmeisterWRX oh damn that’s nuts man! Did you launch it lots?
@@carswithsepp I launched bad brake boosted a lot and it actually blew when I brake boosted 1st gear blew every gear except 2nd and 3rd
@@PhilmeisterWRXdamn bruh why were u abusing the car so tough? Cuz u knew u were gonna replace the transmission?
Great review ……. You’re right about the platform………0-60 stats mean nothing. This is not a dragster and doesn’t claim to be one. It is an amazing platform with an incredible AWD system designed to carve twisties, handle, be stable in high speed turns. “Fast”? - how about quick agile………..
Thanks for comment! Yes, this car is so agile. Considering the cost of a base WRX as well, it’s hard to beat.
The VB dynos around 250-260 consistently even the CVT equipped models. So there’s no way it’s making 271 HP. The power is more than likely closer to 300 if not a tad higher which explains why it beats stock last gen STIs.
Had a VA STi and now a VB TR. The TR is better than my STi was in every way, except the engine noise.
eh.... I owned multiple VA STI's and still own a blobeye STI... I also daily a VB WRX limited.. The TR is cool, but the drivetrain (other than the FA24) is far superior in the STI, the trans alone is miles better.. But the brakes, and suspension have come a long way. I do love my VB, but not more than my 05STI..
Mine is order
Glad you are enjoying your TR. Is it fast? I don't think so in today's perspective. EVs are wiping the floor with ICE cars:czcams.com/video/x3SuhXcmlWA/video.htmlsi=qsGsMpamNFqZ8bp7. But to be honest that's not why you buy cars like these. It's quick its nimble; comes with the stick and handles well for a 4 door sedan. If the next gen WRX/STI is gonna be EV as rumors have it then this platform will be one to hold on to.
Yes I agree. EVs are now taking over in terms of fastest cars. But I think the fun this car offers, especially for the price, is hard to beat!
Stock ? Absolutely not
Honestly man. After having the opportunity drive a zl1 1LE and really put the hammer down on that car. Nothing feels even close lol. Not even the GT350 I had. The ZL1 is a híper capable sports car that cost less than 100k.
Apples and oranges. This is not a $100k muscle car.
True, but you cannot get a Zl1, for 30k.. If you put 70k into the VB WRX, at minimum it would hang with it, but it would most likely smoke it, drag strip and on the track.
@@juanticimo my point is what fast is like to me now days. I drive a VB for a bit.
No
Only thing is 1st to 2nd in this car is terrible lol
Terrible, how? Care to elaborate or just be negative with no information?
