In this latest CZcams video, I take on the challenge of building a massive wooden berm on my backyard MTB trail. The berm is an impressive 25 meters long and required over 2 tons of wood to construct. To get the necessary materials, I had to find fallen trees from previous storms and use my tractor to drag them to my new timber mill.
Halfway through the video, I encounter some frustration with the mill, and I decide to take a break and ride the Cooma mountain bike trails. During this break, I have a crash, but thankfully I wasn't hurt. I twisted my MTB handlebars.
After completing the wooden berm, I invite two friends to test ride it with me, and we all agree that it is a massive success. The berm is smooth and provides riders with plenty of speed. The structure is made of Australian eucalyptus, making it incredibly strong and rot-resistant.
Throughout the video, viewers will also encounter Australian wildlife such as spiders, goannas, leeches, and echidnas.
As a woodworker and mountain biker, I took on this build with great enthusiasm, and it took over a month to construct, mostly due to the time it took to gather and mill the wood into slabs. However, the end result is a spectacular wooden berm that adds a thrilling element to my backyard trail.
Overall, this video is perfect for those who love mountain biking and woodworking, and it showcases the process of creating a massive wooden berm that provides endless amounts of fun and excitement.
For those interested the bike I am riding is the Marin Rift Zone Carbon 2, and it shreds.

How I fixed the mill. Sorry I don't think I explained it properly in the video. I reset all the guides and the tension of the blade. Then the mill started cutting straight. The problem was a combination of lots of things. The blade was too dull, the guides were too loose and the tension on the blade wasn't enough. So the blade could move around too much while cutting.
That was a huge build! Did you notice that the berm just ends??? Let me know what you think I should build after it! And if you would like to support the channel please consider purchasing a t-shirt from my online shop. cutlaps.com/shop
Put chicken wire on the corkscrew drop of 👍 love the work mate🤙
Put a big kicker after it for a 360
With all the speed from the berm, it's the perfect place for a nice big tabletop jump.
If there is any big rocks/cliffs nearby you could make a drop.
@@sjc115 perfect mate, exactly what I was thinking
My genuine reaction to seeing this notification was “yes, finally a new cutlaps video!” As a fellow Aussie rider and trail builder, I love your quality content man keep it up.
P.S. would like to be entered in the giveaway 😉
My thoughts exactly! So stoked to see this one
Thank you so much dude! This was a huge build and edit but it turned out even better than I could imagine. Definately my favourite part of the trail now. The berm is just so fast and feels great when you are on it.
Love the videos never stop being amazing keep it up
@@cutlaps hi
This video's effort and production value are just ridiculous! How are you not a household name with millions of subscribers? Fantastic material, man. Keep it up.
Haha thanks mate! Probably because it takes me so long to make a video that everyone forgets me in between. Not complaining though, love what I am doing and really cool to see comments like this. Thank you
Congrats on such a massive feature! Looks like it rides perfect!
Thanks Eric! It actually turned out even better than I could have hoped. It feels really fun to ride.
While your in stralia you should go ride it
Yes that is such a good idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sooo good!! Possibly the best trail I have ever ridden, feature packed manicured gravity goodness. Thank you Luke! Such a massive effort to build these features and for them to ride sooo smoothly - Absolute Legend!!!
Wow that is saying something! You will have to come back when it's all linked up so we can ride it top to bottom properly!
@@cutlaps Can't wait!!!
Holy moly, the effort and production value in this video are insane! How do you not have hundreds of thousands of subscribers? Awesome content dude, keep it up!!!!
Right? His followers grew a lot with the last video and after yet another amazing and entertaining video I bet he’ll grow even faster. #TopNotchContent
Yeiwww thank you for noticing. Each build and video gets a little more crazy lol. But it means it takes so long for me to procude an episode. I'll keep going with quality over quantity because it makes me happy. Really appreciate your comment. Thank you for watching.
@@cutlaps I just saw your channel show up in my home page (watched a lot of mtn bike stuff lately) so it looks like your channel is starting to branch out via the algorithm. Absolutely love the channel and I'm subscribing I've just watched 4 of your videos. Good luck and keep up the good work!
@@calvinbaII That is great to hear! Thanks for subscribing and enjoy watching the other videos as well.
Awesome build and I loved that your Dad was out helping with it.
Hes the number one fan of the channel and always has some great advice. Thanks for watching Mike. Have you been doing any more trail builds?
This is one of my favourite channels. I’m loving watching the trail grow and the excitement of the build. So so good. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Every build keeps getting bigger and bigger! I have to slow down haha
Just recently found your channel, and I'm so glad I did !!! Love it
Stoked you found my channel mate! Have you checked out some of the earlier videos? The boner log is one of my favourites.
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Wowww. Dude the amount of effort you put into this video is absolutely crazy. You certainly deserve for this video to go viral and your work to be overwhelmingly recognized. Thank you for sharing this wonder with us!
Cheers mate! That is really awesome of you to say. I really enjoy making these videos and it is so cool to see people all over the world enjoying them! Thanks for watching and I hope you have some fun rides planned for the week.
I’m so happy you’re back!
Good to be back. Not that I left, this build just took months to complete!
I found your channel a few months ago when your Dunny Drop build went viral, and proceeded to watch your entire backlog over the next few days. Then i had to wait ~4 months for this video. Love your enthusiasm and your awesome builds, I can't wait to see what you build next. While the wait was worth it, I really hope o see another video much sooner.
Thank you! I really hope I can get the next video out sooner as well. It all depends what the next feature is going to be. I started building this one back on the 11th of January. It's mostly just me out there building and filming by myself so it takes a lot of time. And then I edit it all myself as well and this one took almost 80 hours. Huge amount of work but well worth it. Thanks for watching.
@@cutlaps damn, that's a lot of time. The end result is amazing though. The build, the filming, the edit all turned out excellent.
@@Beef4Dinner22 thank you so much dude!
I’m so impressed on how you get your own wood instead of buying it😅 really good job on the build and keep up the good work always excited to see one of these new vids and they never disappoint🎉🎉
Having access to my own lumber now is going to be great. Lots of hard work but I can make much bigger features now. So cool. Thanks for watching.
Man that was bloody great & I feel privileged to help test the wall ride .... what an awesome weekend we had. I'm keen to help test the next feature you build 😜
☝🏼I hope to see you in more builds, interaction between friends and train rides are good content
@@mattspen thanks Matt 👍
For sure! I may have to build some big jumps and get you to be the test dummy for me haha. Great weekend!
@@cutlaps Yep I'm in & may even attempt the skinny 😬
@@DMMTB hah yeah Carl had laid down the challenge now.
Great build. Realy want to see more of this. Keep up the good work
Thanks mate. Make sure you hit that bell icon so CZcams notifies you when I upload the next video. I think I'm going to continue this roller coaster! I need a lot more wood.
Wow! Great job explaining the process!
Cool thanks mate. I hope it all made sense. I try to gie enough detail to stay interesting but not bore people at the same time.
Been waiting for a new Cutlaps video and this delivered so hard man. Love the production quality, build quality and shredding! So sick dude, keep it up.
Yeiwww stoked you enjoyed it. This was a massive build and edit but I think it turned out great. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, it means a lot.
You have outdone yourself on this one man! What an epic build. I can’t wait to ride it!
Haha come over and send it mate. You can't ride it until you have done 1 day of building lol

Awesome channel. Fresh ideas. Great seeing trails in this beautiful Aussie setting
Thanks mate! I'm lucky to be able to build in this beautiful bushland!
This type of content inspired me to build a trail myself, so far I got 4 jumps 2 berms and some heavy turns on it. Right now I'm planning on making a downward corkscrew into a big ramp jump. Great content man.
Hell yeah!!!!! Dude that sounds epic! Do you have any photos or video I can see?
Great work Luke. That was such a great build. I cannot wait to see the next section. 🤙
Dude I am excited for it as well. Not sure what it's going to be yet because you have way more speed than I was expecting. Probably end up using lots of wood again haha.
Mate you get me so hyped up to ride everything I watch your progress, massive effort, outstanding result... well done...
Thats awesome! This was a huge build but so worth it. Currently collecting enough wood to build the next part!
Great channel! It just popped up on my feed and I really like it. Great quality content and nice illustrations / animations. Keep up the good work mate!

This was 100% worth the wait! Keep up the good work.
Awesome to hear! Thanks for watching.
The Bush Beast! What a great transition from milling your own lumber to riding another trail for a break and for the climax, riding your own feature. You are a great storyteller. Please keep them coming!
Thanks mate! Oh dude I was going insane at the mill haha, I really needed that riding break. I didn't really show it all that well in the video but there was days and days of frustration trying to get it to cut right. But managed to work it all out. Stoked you enjoyed the video.
Great trail, excellent video production and what a fine fine host. Keep it up!
Hahaha thank you so much. Stoked you enjoyed it.

wow, I'm glad that ur back after 4 months, I was so exited to see a new vid from you.
I'm gonna built my own trails when I'm older because of you.😁😊
Yeah this was a huge build and edit. I had been working on it since January. Thats really cool that you want to build your own trails. Trail builders are the real heroes of the MTB world. Without them we would have nothinng to ride.
This is insane dude! Loving the work, glad you’re back with another vid mate!
Thanks Chris! The size of this beast really is insane haha. But it is so much fun to ride. I
My first reaction when i saw the video: Yes! Finnaly a new Cutlaps video! And that is a beast of a berm!
Haha I was nervous people had forgotten me because of how long this beast took to build! Thanks for watching.
Your series is awesome. Feels like I'm watching a TV show that's how well done it is. Both my son and I enjoy watching together. We are tuned in. Keep em coming.
Very cool to hear! I have been collecting logs to mill for the next build. Can't wait to show you what it is. Cheers
Stoked to see another vid. This section looks sick. Great name for the wall ride too

Can't wait to see this trail finished with all the jumps and modules!!
Neither can I... at this rate I will be here for years haha. It's already so much fun to ride.
Love this build and all your videos. Keep it going!
Thanks Jared. I think i'm going to make this roller coaster much longer. Its way too fun
That looks so cool. My local trail centre keeps returning wooden features due to rot.
Great to see some of the wildlife too
This wood is rot resistant but it won't last forever. I really need to be careful it doesn't get eaten by termites.
I just wached all of ur video's at once. I LOVED theme all and I can't wait for the next one. Keep the effort and remember not to give up!! :)
Dude that's so cool. Which one was your favourite? I've started filming the next build already.
Glad to see you back!

Thanks mate. I hope you enjoy the earlier videos as well. It's pretty funny to see all the way back at the beginning, building small features. They just kept getting bigger and bigger.

Awesome video! That berm looks wild! Crash looked like it hurt man!! Love your videos.👍keep going with these crazy awesome trails!!
I thought the crash was going to hurt my back a lot more than it did. But it was my foot that I couldn't walk on for a few days. But yeah it wasn't too bad at all.

Awesome. Yeah the video on instagram has been getting lots of views. Cool to know that people have been coming across to see the full video on youtube.
