  • My XMAXX 8S stock servo died so I installed the Traxxas 2085X Servo Upgrade Kit for X MAXX. More Torque, More Metal, Stronger Servo Saver Spring and Link. Good Upgrade! Fun RC BASH! This X-MAXX is an AWESOME truck!

    Awesome bro. A word of advise just stick with the stock bell crank l wasted a lot of money on the hot racing steering stuff and it has broke I don’t know how many times and servos. The 2085x and the spring is great. I have never broke the stock stuff with the 2085x in it. The truck is really easy to work on at least. Nice video bro.

    Great upgrade. Like you said, crazy that didn’t come with the rig to begin with!

    Traxxas plastic servo gears 😨 and then in such a big truck lol. I had the 2075 in my Slash and I just got tired of rebuilding the servo and bought something else. Nice upgrade video 👍

    Hey John I was saying during the first run of mine is the stock servo sux, IMO seems to be weak n slow even when I was moving, so ya that’s my first upgrade. Sweet video brotha, gotta love the Xmaxx! 👍😎

      Yeah the stock servo they put in these Trucks seems designed to fail, so many UDR, EREVO, XMAXX servo failures it's crazy. Gotta upgrade! I'm happy with the 2085X so far. I didn't want to do the adapter and aftermarket servo route, even with that adapter you have to cut the servo if you try to put a normal style in. The mount is weird.

    Do you know if they have upgraded that as of now? That's a lot of money for that, it should come with!

      No, still the same old 2085 with plastic gears. You can replace the plastic gears with metal ones around $30. But! one gear is always aluminum and that strips out easy. I have calibrated the travel and centered the servo with the transmitter making sure it doesn't travel farther than the xmaxx can rotate the tires. I have loosened my servo saver so loose the truck wouldn't even steer then started tightening until it steered but to a point I could easily turn the wheels by hand without the servo rotating much at all. So sitting still the servo saver was functioning so much the tires wouldn't rotate. But! the one gear made out of aluminum in the metal gear upgrade still stripes out. Why didn't they just make the gears out of all the same metal and not! one gear out of aluminum. I guess they still wanted it to strip just a little bit better than the plastic. I'm wondering does this 2085X servo have aluminum gears. If it does why. Of course to allow it to strip easy. Well!, I just looked up a video of the teardown for this 2085X and YES it has a single gear made out of aluminum! If you want more torque but expect it to strip just as easy as the 2085 with the metal upgrade gears like I put in and stripped multiple times then cool. I just looked at the gears I buy from Amazon and yes! these gears are used for both the 2085 and 2085X servos. Here's the key words search in Amazon. Traxxas 2087x Gear Set Metal For 2085 and 2085X servos x-Max. I regret buying this toy.

      This truck is set up to break to force you to spend money on upgrades but still breaks. If you use this truck in sand, dirt, and such environments like a construction sight get ready for every joint to wear out with in an hour or a little longer, not much. I've replaced all the steering components with metal and they are aluminum even at the pivot pints so expect them to last, ummm maybe 8 hrs. or so. Then the couplings used to connect the power to the wheels to wear out with in 8 hrs. or less. I put store bought rubber boots on to cover them but don't expect them to last. I'm an engineer so I designed my own, made a mold creating these covers with extremely heavy walled covers. They are lasting. But they only cover those couplings and not all the other steering connection points. Expect to be fixing and spending a lot of money and time if you do take this to the environments I would expect a truck to go and not just on grass.

      Yeah it's really good area front and back. I still didn't get the 4TEC speedrun ready and school starts next week! Oh well.. someday I might do that. My next project is the STEVO Tamiya build for Sept.

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC Před 6 lety

      we should have a comp on the speedrun! I was lucky yesterday not to break anything on the 4tec! I am still struggling to find a spot. I shall use the downtime to work on my speedrun body which needs some work to extend the rear (Ive got another body that covers the 45mm foams). I may do the Stevo build if not I'll be in on the next one. I always wanted a Tamiya wild willy so this'll be my excuse to get one! Izzy went back to school yesterday, and in San Jose they been back 3 weeks! I may see about picking up an 8S X-maxx but I'm thinking second user one rather than new, and get one with a few mods on it. Ryans ate pinions due to the weight of the upgrades. I had all $2k(!!!) worth of it sat in my hall for 2 weeks, my wife was dusting round it!

    For those claiming they burnt out servos, did you calibrate your end points correctly, or at all?

    How do you properly adjust the servo saver? I’ve broken two of the 2085X metal servos this week and was told it might be an issue with my servo saver

    when you are pulling those wheelies, are you giving it 100% throttle? my badlands dont wheelie like that at all

    • @netcruzer
      @netcruzer  Před 4 lety

      I made this a long time ago but I don’t remember it needing full. It would wheelie on quick 3/4 throttle. Also this grass was pretty grippy. I need to fix my Xmaxx. They are so fun it’s in pieces due to bearing failures in transmission from sand and water bashing.

    how tight do you screw that spring in? How do I even know how tight it should be? I feel like the servo is fine, but after a turn (left or right), when i release the wheel, the wheels don't always recenter... is that normal?

    • @netcruzer
      @netcruzer  Před 5 lety

      I put the sprint as tight as I could. I prefer a tight saver. The wheel may not center fully if TSM is on. That’s normal and it straightens when you drive.
