I read the book Firestorm at Peshtigo. It blew my my mind. The intense heat created its own weather pattern that caused a tornado. The fire-tornado cause the firestorm to rush at 100mph. Another rare phenomenon was what they referred to as fire balloons. Intense heated sap that floated through the air, and when they exploded they instantly incinerated everything below them, houses, trees, animals, people.
Well done. At age 66, this is the first time I have heard of the fire and its deadliness. Amazing that Green bay was not hit by the fire. The History Guy did an episode on this fire also.

Remember Peshtigo
Oct. 8 1871 the Peshtigo fire, Chicago fire and the fires in Holland, Manistee and Port Huron Michigan. Just a coincidence?
some say it was due to asteroid impacts as the fires started about the same time in the different locations
