Kids these days don't realize how easy they have it for Lego sets; Like you mentioned with the manual not having the parts listed above, all vintage sets are like that. You just have to look at the picture in each step to see what different, definitely a struggle compared to modern instructions. Also numbered bags did not exist back then either, you just opened everything and made a big pile and away you go. Ship looks great though! Love to see this vintage set restored (mostly) to its former glory.
Absolutely! We have it good these days lol
I’m 52 years old now and this was my very first Lego set I bought when I was 24-25 years old. We couldn’t afford Lego when I was a kid. My husband and I were shopping at a Pamida store, which is like a K Mart. I mentioned to him that I always wanted a Lego set and he said you make your own money now and can afford it, so get it. I still have that set and became hooked on Lego. Now I share my love of Lego with my adult nephew and my grandsons 😊
What a great story and memory! I love it!
I acquired a complete boxed set of this ship last year for a pretty good deal. I never owned a copy when it released because by 1996, I was already "growing out of Lego" as teenager. I was however, very much aware of its existence and the later re-release in 2000 or 2001 under the Legends banner. As an adult, I never thought I would like this ship compared to the other two big classic pirate ships from the era (6285 and 6286). I've quickly grown quite fond mainly due to its play features. As a play set, it is great! The battle damage, adjustable sails, shark, treasure, it's all there for any kind of high seas adventure / hi-jinks. If you can acquire some vintage firing cannons to replace the non-firing ones, this ship becomes even more interesting and fun (not to mention the most heavily armed ship of the era with four cannons per side)! As a model, which it is not, it does leave a lot to be desired. The awkward colour scheme can't really be ignored. The lack of a deck in the mid section is just baffling. The ship missing a few sails. The rigging - Yikes! Despite its flaws, I can appreciate what the designers and Lego were going after in the waning days of Lego Pirates. Had the theme continued past 1997 I do believe we'd have gotten some interesting sets involving more play features as was evidenced by later revivals of the theme in 2004, 2009 and 2015.
Greg, the story of the Ship is amazing. Even with the dirty sails it adds to the story of the ship. Look at the sails of any sail boat there dirty and used. Thanks for sharing and have an amazing week
Great way to look at it.
I remember when your father inlaw scored this. I can't wait to see this finished.
I love resurrecting sets from lots; identifying the sets based on unique pieces and bring order to the chaos
Amazing ship. Thing goes for close to $300 on eBay. Would say a definite score for $40
Absolutely!
That set is so fire! You did an awesome job cleaning it up. I remember when you got this. I'm glad you built it. Love the vintage sets. Keep up the awesome content buddy.
Thanks buddy!
OG sails every time
Nice build I love the pirates themed lego. This was the only ship I didn't manage to get back when they came out.
Sonhappy to finaly see this done! Is as cool as it looks in the picture! But The coolest part of this is the deal!
Nice video 😮
There's something mesmerazing about Lego pirates ship whether you're a fan or not, especially Vintage sets, when that theme was top of the game, as a 90s kid I gotta tell, seeing this ship kinda warms my heart 🤩
Absolutely!
Awesome ship, ive just in last few days been working on my lego collection from early 90s, been fun rebuilding those sets, ive had in storage for 25 years while i was in military, i have ALOT of vintage lego sets
Sounds like a good time! Hope you have fun enjoying all the memories.
i’m so hype to get this
Good energy and great message: you don't have to spend hordes of $money$ to build some wicked cool sets! Takes a little bit of investment, smart shopping, and some creativity.
Also, nice change of pace from the usual Lego influencer message that scares consumers into rush buying a bunch of sets for no other purpose then retirement hoarding or for investing.
Exactly!
Wow
I really
Love it great job
I’m glad you went with the original old sails. I always loved the working Lego compass in these sets. Did it have working firing canons? They discontinued them for a while then they came back. This is one I don’t think I ever built though I did own it at one time
Thanks for sending it over! So much better than the aftermarket ones.
Great video!
Amazing work by the way keep it up love your videos continue the good work
5:10 Cutlass actually Greg... 🏴☠🤓
You're that guy! lol
Finnaly he did ive been waiting for this day for ages and anytime im in a stream my number 1 question is did you build the pirate ship
Finally did it!
I’m trying to do the same thing that you did but for classic space because I got a classic space a lot
I been waiting for this one since the og video, we finally get to see what you did with the dirty lego from a fisherman lol
Finally!
04:30 you should be able to bleach the original sails to bring back the whiteness.
That's a little scary with the printing.
Go with the original sails and take the one Jabbo sent you and tea dye it. Just put hot water in a bowl with a tea bag for several minutes then soak the sail until you get the right tone. I would say to put a little white vinegar in to set the new color, but that might make the sail soft and not look as good on the ship.
Not a bad idea! Can I drink the tea afterwards?
@@brickitect I wouldn't recommend it, but hey if you're feelin' it -- go for it!
Love that t-shirt! Where is it from?
I've started reliving my vintage Legos sharing the journey with my kids... it started when the forestman GWP came out so I rebuilt my castle sets and got the Lions castle... then rebuilt my space and got the galaxy explorer... now I'm rebuilding my pirates and islanders and got a decent deal on a sealed barracuda bay.
Thanks! I got it at LEGOLand NY. Glad you are getting back into the hobby. I hope your wallet is prepared for this 😆
Hey greg
remove the side technic pins for the second play feature
Now I remember that! It's actually a cool feature.
wow im early on 2 videos in a row lol
Wow all that cleaning work and now your thinking of selling it off
I enjoy the aspect of finding LEGO deals and building/playing with what I get. The act of displaying and most likely storing LEGO is my least favorite part of the hobby. I'd like to see it go somewhere it will be enjoyed.
I mean I’m more curious to see if you get through your backlog than anything else….
Will you still be here in 2033?
@@brickitect Yes, but I will be 45 years old….and still single
Are you guys in Hawaii?
Back now
