Cleaning Switchback (climb), Hartland, Victoria, BC | MTB

The second hardest climbing trail in the park (with Breathless being the hardest). It's quite challenging to clean, and definitely harder in the wet. I probably clean it about 1/3 of the time now, and I think I rode it around 100 times or so before I finally cleaned it, lol.

That was tough to do back in 2003! I doubt if 20+ years of erosion have made it any easier. Longer wheel based bikes don't help either. I see the entrance has changed but it looks like the 3rd and 5th switchbacks are still the crux moves. Well done.

The entrance got re-routed a year or so ago when of part of Centrefold was closed (the first part of the climb that ran beside the creek) and Middle Earth was opened (you can now climb all the way up Middle Earth, bypassing Switchback altogether). The 3rd corner is definitely the hardest, but the erosion on the 4th makes it harder than the 5th IMO.
