FULL Pick and Roll Workout With College Basketball Player

  • In this video, I put through my guy Tony through a full pick and roll workout. We focused primarily on passing and scoring off the pick and roll. We started the workout with a quick pace ball-handling warm-up and progressed from there. I started the workout by just simply asking him questions, getting to know exactly what he needs, the situations he's going to find himself in during games, and building the workout around that.
    After the pace ball handling warm-up, we started to get into some transition work again focused on going from slow to quick, then applying that straight into some transition pick and roll actions. Because there was no defense I had to get a little more creative with constraints and utilizing audio cues.
    Overall the workout was just helping him with minor things, getting shots in his spots and actions, and building his IQ just a little bit. Because it's just one session and he is in the season I didn't present too much struggle or too many new concepts for him to learn. As a basketball trainer, it is important to know who you are working with and where you are in the development process. In-season and off-season workouts are going to look different, workouts with a player I train very consistently are going to look different than players I work with once in a blue moon.
