    When I was 12 my dad got me two hamster boys and they were siblings. I knew that we should separate them once they’re older, but as soon as I did that they stopped being active and they looked kinda depressed and when I put them back in they cuddled up and went to sleep right away. We didn’t separate them until they died 2 and half years later 😢
    Edit:
    I’ve got my two hamsters when they were still babies I didn’t put them together when they’re adults, but as soon as they gotten older I separated them and they got depressed and stayed like that for a couple of days until I put them back together. I don’t recommend forcing Syrian hamsters to live together because they’ll fight to death of course. That only happened with those two brothers and never again

      Them wanting to stay together is not the same as you forcing them together 🐹 It is super rare for hamsters to get along that well...

She never attacked the hamsters, though, but when my dad was trying to put her in her cage, she bit him. I was kinda scared because I did wanna hold her without being bit, but I was bit, and I ended up taming her. I had a friend that rescued 4 female sibling hamsters with their momma (the owner was a breeder who unfortunately died suddenly and unexpectedly so all their hamsters had to be rehomed). She was originally just going to keep one of the babies and help rehome the other 3 babies once they were a bit older (the momma was already adopted, she just needed to stay with the babies for a week or two longer) and started to not get along. Well, the sisters just never stopped getting along and so she just kept them together in a pretty impressive enclosure (it was very big and very nice) until they all eventually passed. When I met them she only had 2 as the other 2 had passed due to old age and the remaining 2 were definitely elderly though very sweet. She had said that her and her older sister had kept groups of brothers together before but that had been the only time they had seen a larger group of sisters actually get along long term.

    While it's usually best to separate hamsters, there have been a few, rare, times when I was able to keep hamsters together with no problems. It depends largely on their temperament. When I had my first hamsters it was around 20 years ago I think. Hamtaro was a popular anime at the time and it made me decide to try owning a hamster. I didn't have internet at the time and there wasn't much information about hamsters outside of internet. So I didn't know about not putting hamsters together. I found an orange and white male I named Hamtaro and then a white greyish male I named Oxnard. I was lucky. These two got along and were best friends just like in the show. I learned in later years that you shouldn't put hamsters together but there were rare occasions they got on well together. I have two dwarfs of different sex and breed living together now. They don't breed and they get on well, so I'm lucky there.

After though I'll only be sticking to dwarf species because I feel more attracted towards my Robo and Hybrid (ideally would like to keep either purebred winter white or campbell in future tho for the sake of the ethical side of things and the health side, and to not support those who just breed for the sake of it!)

Got my first one from the Junior High school Library when he was 6 to 8 weeks old and he lived to be close to 3 years old if not 3 years old. I definitely advocate for proper small animal care, people to do A LOT of their own research instead of relying on the incorrect information that so many people have gotten from pet stores and backyard breeders/rodent mills. I wish people would support the local ethical and responsible breeders because they do spend so much of their time and money working towards genetically and temperamentally stable animals. 💗

    My hampter's babies love cuddling and playing with each other! The thing is, my mom gave all but one baby hamster away. The sad part is the owner didn't know hamsters were solitary. 😢 THEY KILLED EACH OTHER EVEN THE MOM AND THE DAD

    I'm glad people care about hamsters. I think there is some misinformation. Syrian Hamsters, or Teddy Bear Hamsters as some call them, are solitary, but can live with litter mates for a little bit after birth, granted it's M-M or F-F since they mature quickly. If they're left together too long, they can fight. They don't tend to be intentionally aggressive, but do try and protect food/territory/etc. I'd say it's best to separate them earlier than later.

    @user-kx1yi8vc7u Před 2 lety +8

    Try to stop them from pushing others will make them more easier to live together.Separate troublemaker also a crucial factor. Choose those has good tempered, eliminating those aggressive hamsters. By doing so, I have successfully make many pairs of hamsters live together. Remember, punishing the one who attack other hamsters, if the circumstances getting worse, eliminate immediately.
    Hopefully these tips are helpful. I try very hard to breed hamsters become social animal.

      Are you all serious? You're congratulating someone saying:
      - to PUNISH and ELIMINATE an animal for having their normal territorial behavior (what do you think eliminating means?);
      - to force a new social behavior that's not natural for Syrian hamsters in the first place (they're territorial and solitary, just because you want to see them living together it doesn't mean they should live together, that's not how nature works, you can't force it to please you or cater to you...).

  • @carylestrera4392
    @carylestrera4392 Před 2 lety +1

    I do the same with my own baby hammies. If we separate them to young, they become sick easily and has no socialization, which I think is important too.

  • @uuusaharascandystashuwu5130

    They are so cute I have 2 hamsters my self Both are females so they won’t breed tiny hamsters bc I don’t want more lol but they were okay with each other but one started to get territorial so yes they kept fighting but my parents were like it’s fine it’s play fighting but I heard squeaks and one day one of them scratched the other hamsters and bite her ear 🥲 they’re are in different cages now so it’s okay now

    I don't imagine any of the commenters pretending to be hamster experts and calling you a bad owner are now coming out to apologize. Sadly, I think people are less likely to reflect on their actions online cuz of lack of direct consequences, so I don't think they'll change. They'll just go about their day pretending to be an animal expert to others, even those more experienced and better educated, just to make themselves feel smart. It'd be great for some scientists to do some more studies on these kinds of people.

    I've had rare situations when I've kept 2 females together that were siblings. Also, had same situation where they were fine for some time then started fighting. Definitely should be a solitary pet. People think they need company, but the only company they need are their owners.

    I have to stand with you cause this is true. If you buy hamsters at pet shop, then get another one later to be a friend (male/female), there is a high chance that they will fight till death. But not most of the cases would be so. Due to my experience, the new one meets the old one (same gender) still can be live together:
    First, you need to prepare the perfect place/environment for them to live, spacious, with lots of toys, equipment, and food, so they won't fight for those.
    Second, you need to know your hamster's character to tell if they are social enough to live with others. Siblings can fight, cause one of them wants to be the "Alpha". Some will be the introvert type; they want to be alone all the time cause they like so. Some would love to be with siblings/mate/homies.
    Third, you should watch their interaction for days. Some like social when young, some don't in their mature or old age. Always have backup cage(s) for these situations.
    thank you reading my comment. Peace
