Hot Wheels '40 Ford pickup (210) Four Horsemen invitational

On the bench today is a Hot Wheels 1940 Ford pickup truck. According to the Hot Wheels Wiki site, it’s a modified drag racing version of the real thing. It was designed by Phil Riehlman and debuted in the 1998 First Editions. It has reappeared several times since its conception in several mainline and premium series, and notably as a Treasure Hunt in 2002. Phil Riehlman's initials can be found on the base. Mine is a 2022 casting which was the year of the latest modification by Hot Wheels, and now features a post-post design as opposed to a tab-post design, the hood scoop being of a simpler design and cast into the body and the rear wing being cast as part of the body as opposed to part of the interior piece. Phil Riehlman's initials have also been removed from the base.

FYI: All of the Maple Leaf Customs finished projects that are kid-friendly are put in custom blister packs and go to my local Goodwill store where they are given to children for free. Following Paul's livestream last weekend, it's great to see someone call an audible on the paint scheme and start over. @SantaSlowdog had the same issue, as have I in my build, which is still racing toward the deadline at breakneck speed. Love the deckles and black and red is a pairing that can't lose. Thanks as always for the inspiration and for sharing your talent. Back to painting for me.

Sometimes the audible works, sometimes it doesn’t. Terrific result this time, Andrew. The jewel is loaded with details, top to bottom. Everything is spot on. I love the scaling of the decals, very eye catching the way they are wrapping around the panels. I love it.

Fabulous job. Of course the detailing is outstanding, and who cares if you can’t see something, you, and we, know it is there. You are becoming the king of removing “blobs” on diecast. @@MapleLeafCustoms i did custom where i took of the hotwheels dodge vans (the 1977 and the 1994 drift van) and convetted it i to a 1977 ambulance. My dad worked on these at a conversion shop in toronto and i felt the need to make for myself as a reminder of him. He loved thst job. A lot of work on my part seeing the interior needed as much work as the outside if for anything to aid in the structure of whole thing plus i just liked doing the work on it.
After taking apart other diecast cars and trucks there is a lot interiors that is lost in the end that the designers put a lot of work into in the first place at the factory level.

I'm curious to know what your original theme was. Was it Shell? So happy you had to switch mid stream (even if you weren't....lol). I cringed with that yellow and red. The black and red is top notch, and I love the offset decals on the sides and roof. Spectacular drag truck!
Yes, I was originally planning on a vintage Shell livery. Weathered and rusted, etc. That metallic yellow came out more gold though, hence the audible. I was even skeptical of the bare black and red stage, but knew it'd get properly decalled up with some white in the Texaco logo, so I proceeded. Glad you liked the end result. Me too. 🍁☕️

I think the yellow looked good, but not together with the red roof. black and red works so much better. :) also great work on the overall design. :)
I was originally going for a red/yellow vintage Shell livery. Once rusted and weathered, it might have been OK, but I'm happier with the black/red Texaco look in the end. 🍁👍

Hey Andrew another amazing build looks very nice wanted to let you know I'm having a hard time with my pay pal and actually got scamed trying to fix it some how don't worry thou I recouped the money from the ordeal and all is good but now having a hard time trying to figure a way to send you the money all this new technology doesn't seem to work well with my Oldscool ways lol is there a way I could possibly just mail you the money i will understand if that's not do able and if that's the case I will understand and would like to pass my car to hewitts if he's interested in do have the money just having issues I apologize it's definitely one I was wanting but do t want to hold things up friend ur to good to me
