- Demand for water and affects of climate change will contribute to global water shortages and increasing cost of processing and delivery of treated water worldwide. Water harvesting during rainfalls is an important solution for all countries. In developed countries, collecting rainwater off roofs and saving it for gardens, lawns, car washing is an increasingly economically beneficial and sensible in savings of community water resources and costs of water treatment. In arid countries water harvesting through engineered sand dams has long lasting impact on the health and quality of life in communities were water scarcity leads to hours of walking to carry water for daily use and consumption. They are called sand dams because after construction of steel reinforced concrete structures, they quickly fill up with sand during the one or two weeks of seasonal rain each year. The sand acts as an aquifer where 40 percent of its volume is water. The sand increases water quality by natural filtration and exclusion of domestic animals. Rather than running off to the sea the water is retained and recharges local aquifers. The riparian habitat can return further shading and protecting evaporation. Beneficial trees, gardens and crops can be planted and irrigate as well. Desertification can be reversed along the length of the once eroded gullies turned water storage. Community health increases and incidences of water borne dysenteries decreases. Hours spent my families carrying water from distant sources can now be used more productively, for work, agriculture and school. The Soil Water Environmental Conservation Foundation welcomes to donations to build more sand dams and impact the quality of life and health of communities in rural semi-arid areas of Kenya.
Three ways to donate:
You can donate directly to the Soil Water Environmental Conservation Foundation here:

Love how Victor is expanding the sand dam effort. Other ngo's like African Sand Dams and Sand Dams Worlwide have been working with Kenyan and neighboring country communities for over 30 years and this technique is providing water for over a million people. They have proved beyond doubt this combined with bank stabilization is a functional model for all of us as water scarcity becomes a greater threat. Decentralized water abundance is possible for nearly everyone. Appreciate this video
Absolutely! Thanks for you informative share and support!
Great video! People make a difference. "Impossible is nothing"
So true! Yes they do! think locally...act globally?
Thanks so very much! 🌝
You are welcome Judy!
Building animal water stations away from riparian areas is change that is necessary
Yes. Agreed!
if you want a spring, plant an African banyan tree, one spot 3 banyan tree, every 500 meters. insya Allah the banyan tree is very strong and stores a lot of water so springs appear. and the leaves can be used for animal feed
Fascinating! Thanks for sharing!
Big ups to the founder guy 🎉
For sure!!
Great video. I learn a lot from what they're doing in Kenya. Thank you for the information.
You are welcome!
Great video frank

@@natureatyourdoor yea for sure!
Amazing! In fact by filtering through sand, in the Netherlands much of the drinking water is produces in the coastal regions.
I am always fascinated how the Netherlands carves out a beautiful way of life with the challenges of the sea and freshwater.
AGAIN!! Another FANTASTIC, informative video,!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️ MANY THANKS✌️🌼
So nice of you! You made my day. Glad it is appreciated..I think i spent 15 hours easy editing together pieces of video. Have you told Victor? We just had a zoom meeting this morning and is very excited about the folks that have reached out and messaged him! He is amazing person..you should meet him!
Wonderful video 💗❤🌷🌹👍👍
Thank you so much! Your words and emoji's are much appreciated!
Barragem subterranea é boa também.
Yes underground dams are good as well!
