The real credit for the decision to postpone the D-Day landings should go to the keepers of a little lighthouse on the west coast of Ireland. It was the weather report from Ted Sweeney and his wife Maureen at Blacksod lighthouse in County Mayo which persuaded Stagg to change the planned date. It's about time they got some credit for it.

He was way ahead of his time and of the US meterologists - see the play 'Pressure' for a brilliant portrayal of the story of how his stubbornness own over Eisenhower.
