  • In the period leading up to D-Day, Captain James Stagg and his team of Allied meteorologists were responsible for forecasting the English Channel's weather - a forecast which would turn out to be crucial to the outcome of World War 2.

    Eisenhower forgetting James Stagg worked hard to find such a window and thanked some gods instead.

    A great story, but Stagg was a Group Captain. Shame the Met Office could not get this right.
