  • This may be Hyrule Warriors' third time around the block, but this is the first time I've been able to play it. So let's see what I think.

    *ADDITIONAL NOTES*
    For this review I wanted to do things little differently. I normally like to go really in-depth, but in this case I wanted to be a little more concise. I have so many opinions about so many of this game's elements that I felt like if I let myself the review would end up being twenty minutes long, with more than half of that taken up by nitpicks. So instead of that I decided to keep it relatively simple (still well over ten minutes, heh) and drop a few additional points here in the comments.
    First off, I found out that when the game starts to bug out I can fix it by resetting the software. So it's good that it can be fixed, though it's still disappointing that it happens and I have to keep an eye out for it.
    The game has co-op play, and it's great that you can do it in every single map of every single mode in the game. The problem is that it's too limited. You've got to remember to enable co-op every time you're selecting warriors, and player 1 has to pick everything for player 2, who has no control over the menus. There's no system link, which is disappointing for people who want to grind their warriors on their separate games. (I know both players having different progress would complicate this, but I feel like at least one or two modes could have been made link-friendly.) Also in a tactical game like this it would be really fun to have vs. matches, but there's none of that either.
    The game tilts the camera down just a liiiitle too much. I constantly find myself fighting with the camera, tilting it up just a little bit to better see the map around me. This isn't a big problem until you do split-screen and both players are just looking at the patch of ground in front of them the whole time unless they're running at full speed forward, which is when the camera tilts up a little. Just annoying.
    The more I play the more I'm annoyed at how little the game values my time. It's one thing to require grinding and replaying and all that, but I feel this game takes it just a little too far. Between all the Legend and Adventure Mode scenarios there are so many things to get out of each level, but it often requires beating each one many times. You'll find yourself spending ten whole minutes just to get some minor item you missed or to farm some fairy food, despite the fact that you've played that exact level three times before. It just feels like a little too much sometimes. Instead of making me say, "Wow, look at all this content, I should really try to do everything," sometimes I'm like, "Wow...what's the point of even trying?"
    I mentioned "difficulty annoyances" in the review. This is the result of all character levels being used across all modes. And like I said, this is convenient for a number of reasons, but man, when you go into a scenario you just never know how well your character is going to do. Sometimes I just want to get past a certain square in Adventure Mode but the character it requires is too weak to do any significant amount of damage. As a result I've either got to sit there wailing on enemies and chipping away and their health for ages and hoping I don't take too many major hits, or go off and spend hours grinding that character. You can spend money to pump up their levels, but that's a surefire way to waste every last penny you've got, as the higher you go the more it costs.
    I also mentioned this in the review, but it really is annoying how often the game just doesn't give you the info you need. Different scenarios often have different requirements for getting an A rank, but (again, unless I'm just missing it somewhere) it doesn't tell you what those requirements are. I've spent fifteen or twenty minutes on a map just to find that woops, apparently 1500 KO's wasn't enough. Please try again, for twenty FIVE minutes next time. Same with gold skulltulas; the game tells you that to get some of them you've got to play maps as certain characters and on certain difficulty settings. What it doesn't tell you is that there are certain events that have to go a certain way and you've got to keep certain characters above a certain amount of health the whole time. How on Earth is anyone supposed to know that? So that's something I've wasted a lot of time on as well before finally looking it up.
    Anyway, that's probably it. It's definitely a fun game that I'm completely addicted to at the moment, but it's pretty flawed.

    Visual glitches can happen with the game being left on too long. It's a common bug on the Switch version that will hopefully be patched soon. To fix it, just close and reopen the game from the Switch home screen!

      I haven't seen any of these bugs even after playing 6 hours, so I am wondering what causes it to happen.
      The only "glitch" I've noticed is that the switch version seems to stutter the camera quite often when moving around, as if the camera is dragging on the ground or walls and stuttering in and out of the collision mapping.

      Huh... I guess that explains why I've was scratching my head in confusion when Arlo brought up all these visual glitches that I've never seen before. I usually only play for maybe an hour or two at time, and always close out the game between sessions instead of putting it into sleep mode.

  • @shulkthesmileyboi
    @shulkthesmileyboi Před 6 lety +96

    For anyone wondering, A Rank requires the following:
    Time: under 15 minutes
    K.O. count: 1600 or more
    Damage taken: less than 150 (37.5 hearts)
    Also, I've found that the visual glitches only really occur after extended periods of time playing, about 5 hours or so. Exiting out to the home screen and closing and restarting the software will fix it.

    • @AnUncreativeGuy
      @AnUncreativeGuy Před 4 lety +15

      Shulk, the Smiley Boi
      Some require 1200 kills
      Damage is percentage so it depends but sometimes it’s 200 damage

    • @dededeletethis9940
      @dededeletethis9940 Před 4 lety +13

      These requirements do vary, actually. Sometimes you only have ten minutes, sometimes 1000 kills is enough, though i don't know about specific damage requirements. I usually go for around 1500 kills before facing the boss and try to stay under ten minutes - perfectly doable with strong characters and weapons.

    • @DynastyWarriorsMaste
      @DynastyWarriorsMaste Před 3 lety +3

      Actually it depends on the difficulty of the stage, 1200 in easy ones, 1500 on normal and 1700 or more in the harder ones, 150 - 200 in damage is the threshold in damage recieved and is alaways under 15 minutes for A rank

I think it depends on your definition of hard. De has more to unlock and I personally think it can just take longer. On the wiiu my charecters wer around lv 100 before they wer ready to tacle adventure maps and even at max levell they wer strugleing on the harder maps. I oneley got Link and Ganondorf to max on de cause I used them moste. My uther charecters rang from 80s to 130 or so and I still got everry weapon and beat every Ganon on the adventure maps.

If you didn't play it on wii u, give it try, most of arlo video are complains that are particular for him, i loved the ost of this game (i sometimes play it for my self while working..), never had a big deal with the map, or got bothered by the non complex story or cinematics.

Sure you might argue it can get repetitive but due to side missions, the added switching between characters and their different weapons, you can pretty much play a stage in many different ways. Plus, more lore to BotW? Why not!

The game has dozens and dozens of hours of content in it and it has certain game mechanics that weren't in the wii u version, such as the ability to switch characters midbattle, the my fairy system, etc. It completely outclasses the wii u version in every way. If you have a switch and liked the wii u version, you should get the definitive edition.

    I feel like one of the things that keeps me going is seeing the costumes, the new weapons and what they are, and there's even a neat little feature that you can turn on that makes the highest level weapons in the game turn into 8 bit items, so you get a couple of neat references there. That's mainly what keeps me going, unlocking new weapons, and honestly how satisfying it is to just destroy whole armies. Also I feel like this is a really good game for the switch, because in my opinion most Nintendo licensed games don't have near as much content in them as I would personally like. I played fire emblem three houses for the first time and loved it. For about 14 minutes then I have to replay all of that. I want a game I can turn on and play whenever and never feel like I'm going to run out of content soon

    @nin8769 Před 6 lety +4

    The music harkens to the rest of the Warriors series. It was a sheer joy for me listening to the new renditions of Zelda music and the creative ways they incorporated guitar into the score.
    as far as the items go, the powered up versions are the most worthwhile which is why one should purchase those upgrades early on, the power-ups drop often enough and do enough damage to justify using resources on them early on.
    As far as time management, you can always save during whatever mission you're on.
    As I had anticipated when this game was originally announced for the WiiU, I pictured it being better received from Warriors fans than Zelda fans, though plenty of my Nintendo fanboy friends have loved the game(s) as much as I.
    In short, I can agree with most of your review but one of the best parts (the music) I just have to disagree with. It was a breath of fresh air in the Zelda fanfare. My favorites are from Windwaker and the other 3ds Zelda games as it was more lively fun than killy fun. Don't get me started on Linkle's music changes once the main objective of her Legend missions are finished, it really adds a cinematic feel to the experience. I enjoy your content and look forward to future videos.
    See you in Smash 5.

    Seeing your opinions on warriors games, I'd like to reccomend you to try Fate/Extella, wich is a quirky spin on how musou works, much faster-paced...
    ...but I wouldn't really reccomend that game to anyone that's not at all familiar with Fate/ cause keeping up with the story is an exercise in fustration otherwise. It's good if you recognize the technical terms, but for new players, having to look up the stream of new words in the encyclopedia everytime would be just annoying.

    • @seacliff217
      @seacliff217 Před 6 lety

      The issue is that it's a sequel to a spinoff that is an alternate dimension to the main series, so in terms of context, there is a lot to not get for a newcomer.
      However, playing the game myself, the story is decently standalone, and you can appreciate the characters enough if you are familiar with their real-world history or mythology.

    • @OpXarxa
      @OpXarxa Před 6 lety

      huh. I guess I can't judge too well myself as I've pretty much played the whole series, so wouldn't really know what it'd be like for an unfamiliar player, but I imagined the way the plot just assumes you already know what the se.ra.ph is, or general fate terminology like what's a servant or a command seal, would get in the way of trying to follow it.
      Then again, there actually were people that started watching DBZ without the prequel, so I guess it's not impossible...
