- After school, I had to hightail it here just to get stuck in traffic
(Thanks Charlotte I-485!), but regardless I made it with time to spare. This siren is tested every fire department meeting day at 6:30 and is used as a dinner bell. Please do not go pester them about this, as they were nice enough to set it off for me as is. This is as far as I know the only known rotational Sterling Model M in the entire world, so sit back and enjoy this one-of-a-kind scream to life.

That's the sound from the intakes. Really prominent, especially in person.
Rocking it with the Ozzy intro. This thing is so wonderfully cursed and amazing at the same time. Basically same premise as the Calhan 500DHTT in Colorado
This is so absurd yet awesome. It's amazing how much of a difference the rotation makes in directing the sound.
Again though, wtf. I still can't believe this incredible feat of engineering actually exists.

I'm glad you were able to make it up to see this...monumental machine. This is a true one of a kind, and the kind of thing some probably won't believe is real before seeing it.

Good lord. That is trippy to watch and hear. Its directonality actually serves as a perfect example of why they switched from this style of siren to a true omnidirectional design with their vertical lineup that is the basis of Sentry's current sirens. These sirens throw a cloverleaf pattern so ironically it probably gets better coverage this way. Lol
Coverage pattern on a non-rotational one isn't at all bad compared to vertical sirens, considering intakes projection and all that.
The main issue with the M is its volume...it sucks

you should hear one in person. Mine has very strong intake tones.
In fact, the main tone of a siren comes mostly from the intake, rasp and undertones come out of the ports.

I have to ask. If you remember, at what point was it the loudest? I’ve never really known whether to believe its loudest facing an intake or facing the outputs of both choppers. As someone else said, I know these output a sort of cloverleaf coverage, I just don’t know which half would project further.
I believe it's about 50/50 each way

S stands for single head

since this thing is rotational, I'd assume that the motor wires were routed into the turntable and that the steel stand has collector rings inside it otherwise there has to be some way they made it so the siren gets power.

i could agree no less about the possibility of the stand having hidden collector rings, like i mean i believe they geared the turntable in some way to a motor inside the building which would also in turn have a set of collector rings above the gear train.
@the_real_drwhoroblox1935 I would imagine that the slip rings, rotation motors and gears/belts are all jammed into the huge box below the siren. Wiring would run through the red stand the M is resting on

there's a huge rotator mechanism under the siren that spins it.
Business sign rotator most likely, and the power gets to the siren the same way the lights for the sign would (slip rings).
