- Oshun (also spelled Osun) is a prominent deity in the Yoruba religion and cosmology, originating from the Yoruba people of present-day Nigeria and parts of Benin and Togo. She is among the most venerated orishas (deities) in the Yoruba pantheon and has also found her place in various Afro-Caribbean religions such as Santería, Candomblé, and others.
Oshun is associated with many aspects, including love, fertility, beauty, prosperity, and diplomacy. She is particularly known as the goddess of fresh water, rivers, and streams.
She is symbolized by the river, especially the Oshun River in Nigeria, which bears her name. Offerings to Oshun often include honey, sweet fruits, and other items that symbolize sweetness and fertility.
