  • I set out to climb Mount Elbert in Colorado, my first fourteener in many years. If I can do it then so can you! It isn't easy, but worth every hard earned step. Come along with me as I drive in my Northern Lite Truck Camper from Denver into the Rocky Mountains, find a place to camp for the night, and get up extra early to beat the inevitable afternoon mountain thunder storms.

Great.I am thinking of hiking to the summit of Mt. Elbert during thanksgiving week. Is that a crazy idea or do people do hike late November to Mt Elbert?

People do it all winter, but they have experience and are well prepared. Watch the forecast and check if there is snow on the trial. Go look at 14ers.com if you haven’t already.

I’m an old guy too. Planning this hike end of August or right after Labor Day. Did you use the northern trailhead? Thanks.

I climbed via the NE Ridge route. The road was closed about a mile from the actual trailhead so that added a couple of miles to the hike.
